Their new business is offering the opportunity to rent vintage and modern synthesizers by the hour or day. Their studio is equipped with an impressive array of classic analog synths like the CS80, Jupiter-8, System 700, and Moogs, as well as new synthesizers like the Hydra synth, Quantum, and C15 from Nonlinear Labs. The studio is also designed with a room-in-room construction, ATC speakers, and top-notch acoustics to ensure the best possible recording experience.

The hourly rates are very reasonable, with three models available: hourly, three hours, or the whole day, priced at €80, €200, and €600 euros, respectively.

"Tatsuya Takahashi (Tats) continues to innovate from his labs at Korg Berlin, he revealed their latest innovation - acoustic synthesis. Tats explained that Korg Berlin has developed metal resonators that are designed to contain frequencies that are pleasing to the ear. The resonators move in complex ways when stimulated, with the fundamental frequency creating a sense of pitch. Korg Berlin uses an electromagnetic system to move the resonators, similar to the hammer in a piano. The company then uses capacitive pickups to capture the movement and feed it into a feedback control system, allowing them to manipulate and sustain specific overtones and frequencies. "Korg Berlin's new prototype acoustic/electric demonstrator is a really interesting take on an electromechanical instrument... in that it's 'sort of' mechanical becasue it has resonating parts (a bit like a rhode's tines) but they're stimulated by magnetic fields that can pulsate to increase harmonics, create LFOs, control envelopes and I;m sure there more stuff I missed!

The little flick book shows one of the resonating behaviours - there were four books... so the physical parts have more complex harmonics that an electric piano.. possibly described as physical FM (up to a point).

Great to see such innovative ideas."

Superbooth 2023: Kiviak Instruments - WoFi

"We spoke to Romain from Kiviak Instruments, a new French company based in the south of France and with an office in Berlin. They have presented their first product, called WoFi, which is a sample-based synthesizer that looks like a virtual analog but is full digital and sample-based. The machine is connected to a web-based cloud platform where users can share presets with the community, upload samples and make backups. The concept is to keep a very simple workflow, and the small factor keyboard can be used anywhere as it runs on a battery.

Wolfie has ten voices of polyphony and a granular effect that Kiviak Instruments designed to be somewhere between Shimmer and granular synthesis. You can choose the machine model you want to emulate, such as old 12 bit units or even gritty 3 bit models. WoFi has a built in mic, one envelope and one LFO that you can assign to any parameter you want just by clicking on learn and choosing the parameter. WoFi has internal storage and memory cards, and with the cloud platform, it will be have completely unlimited storage for free.
