It's the Noiseblast Hour, brought to you by Noise Engineering, hosted by Kris Kaiser! This is the sixth installment in a series of indeterminate length and sporadic release (h/t Roman Mars). Watch here for future episodes! On this episode, we welcome the Frequency Shift Takeover, an event showcasing female and non-binary musicians, organized by the SoCal Synth Society. This episode features performances by Becoming Zero and Trovarsi and interviews with the artists and the organizers of Frequency Shift.

Trovarsi is a LA based music producer and live performance artist who brings a unique sound to the world of electronic music. With a hybrid blend of analog synths, modular, drum machines and Ableton, she builds a pulsing atmosphere to any set she plays. This video focuses on the idea of creating a powerful performance with a minimal setup. The idea is to push you to be creative and inspire you to get the most out of your instrument.

Currently residing in the USA, Holly Vernon is an avante-garde, electronic industrial music artist. She works primarily with modular synthesis and effects. Her inspiration comes from a blend of Riot Grrrl, Fluxus, and a fascination with sci-fi and the macabre. (Before the COVID) She was an active performer; primarily around Los Angeles and Austin, TX. The performance you're about to watch is an improvisational piece that challenges and bends time and complex rhythms to create a soundscape for a post-apocalyptic dystopian suburbia."

"Live Acid Techno 20 minute improvised performance I did for @Trovarsi for Transduction. As always this is a totally improvised performance shot in a single take with no additional processing. There's very little preparation, besides making sure I have everything sync'd and audio levels are correct before I start the performance. My interactions with my studio and the happy accidents guide the direction of the performance. All shot on 3 cameras from my studio.

Trovarsi Eurorack Techno Tutorial With Noise Engineering Modules

Trovarsi uses a 62hp Intellijel Palette case of Noise Engineering modules to create an array of alien percussion, slithering bass lines, and frantic, aggressive leads. By linking several sequencers and modulation sources to a single clock source (the Horologic Solum), she keeps everything moving together. Her only sound sources are a Basimilus Iteritas Alter and a Manis Iteritas—but by deploying some clever patching, she expands these into a complex tapestry of fluid, yet aggressive sound.

Proving you don't need a lot of gear to make compelling sounds, Trovarsi turns this tiny system into a full-fledged, in-your-face groovebox."

In this video, @Trovarsi demonstrates how the Circuit Rhythm and the Take 5 can be used together to make a complete musical arrangement and performance. She's sending MIDI from the Circuit Rhythm to the Take 5 to sync their clocks. Trovarsi records a chord progression into the step sequencer, using ties and timed steps to lengthen the progression to 8 bars. The audio from the Take 5 is running into the Circuit Rhythm, allowing end of chain effects to be utilized for all the audio, as well freeing up her hands to perform and experiment with the filters, distortion, and delays on both machines.

Circuit Rhythm's stereo/mono inputs make it easy to sample sounds directly to the groovebox for quick sequencing and sample mangling fun. After sampling, you can quickly get into creative mode and make a sequence out of the samples as well as use some of the Grid Fxs for performance fun!

Sampling with Circuit Rhythm and Perkons HD-01 - Trovarsi Connects

"For this video, @Trovarsi sampled a bunch of one-shots and loops from the Perkons drum machine directly into the Circuit Rhythm. The fixed-length recording feature was used to grab an exact 8-step sequence to get some loops going and a few one-shots are quickly sampled as well.

Circuit Rhythm's stereo/mono inputs make it easy to sample sounds directly to the groovebox for quick sequencing and sample mangling fun. After sampling, you can quickly get into creative mode and make a sequence out of the samples as well as use some of the Grid Fxs for performance fun!

Modbap Per4mer Eurorack Effects Explanation and Jam by Trovarsi

"Our friend Trovarsi came by to show us some of the sounds of the Modbap Modular Per4mer and explain how some of its features work. The Per4mer has four arcade buttons that switch on DJ style effects (delay, reverb, glitch and tape stop). There is also a color processor that gives everything you pass through it the sound of a digital sampler, or some saturation or a vinyl emulation. The Per4mer has a compressor that can do regular compression as well as sidechaining or compress a signal in time with a clock.

Of course since the Per4mer is a eurorack module you can trigger the effects with triggers instead of pushing the buttons, and you can control the knob settings with the CV inputs. The Per4mer is also stereo in and out!
