DreamsOfWires - Intellijel Atlantis & iPulsaret (iPad)

Published on Nov 21, 2016 DreamsOfWires

"Here's one I prepared earlier...

Ingredients: 1 sound of your choice, recorded into iPulsaret (any onboard mic will suffice). Mix and fold into a rough dough using iPulsaret's many parameters. Set to one side to cool. Then introduce some noodlings of filter resonance from the Atlantis, followed by a simple sequence of notes, into which you blend various waveforms until it starts to get boring.

Fortunately for me at least, such things don't seem to get old.

Recorded into Cubasis on an iPad with Virsyn's Audio Reverb. This composition started life as an iPulsaret recording, but in this version the Atlantis part was actually recorded first, then the iPulsaret overdubbed afterwards (thus making timing easier). Just a few recent, contextual video clips this time. It never seems to stop raining.

Thanks to everyone for your continued support, it means a lot."

DreamsOfWires - AJH Ring SM & Mini Mod System

Published on Nov 16, 2016 DreamsOfWires

"Big moon, small view - Despite awful weather, I managed to catch a glimpse of the 'Supermoon'.

Music: 2 VCO's were tuned to a set pitch, whilst the pitch of the third was controlled by a keyboard. All three were then combined using the Ring SM, and sent to the ladder filter, along with varying amounts of the 3rd VCO and the two sub octaves from the Ring SM. The 'pad' sound in the background was made using the 3 VCO's in the same fashion, but sent directly to the filter.

It was recorded in Cubasis on an iPad, using Virsyn's Audio Reverb.

This was improvised and recorded/filmed on the fly, so the results are far from ideal.

DreamsOfWires - AJH Mini Mod composition

Published on Oct 11, 2016 DreamsOfWires

"Sounds of the AJH Mini Mod over 4 tracks, using only 3 patches in total. Variations of one patch were created by removing the tuned filter resonance or one of the VCO's using the filters handy 3-channel mixer.
This was recorded into Cubasis on an iPad, using AUFX:DUB (delay) and Virsyn's Audio Reverb.
Some of the sound fidelity, especially lower frequencies, will be lost in the online video compression.
Footage is of a jaunt through the Cheviot Hills in Northumberland, UK."

DreamsOfWires - AJH Mini Mod 'Moog days revisited'

Published on Oct 7, 2016 DreamsOfWires

"A re-recording of a video I originally made using the Moog Slim Phatty a couple of years ago. I thought it'd be fun to try it with some authentic Minimoog sounds using 3 oscillators. In the original recording I used a very dense Eventide Space patch, which was almost like an instrument in itself (albeit a rather nice one), and so it added a lot to the sound that wasn't really there to begin with. Unfortunately, I sold that some time ago, so this time I'm using Kymatica's AUFX:DUB and Virsyn's Audio Reverb within AUM on an iPad - In this version the effects are a little more modest so that you can hear the true sound of the synth better. I first recorded the track dry into a separate channel, then used the fileplayer to send the recording through the effects so that I could experiment with different settings and levels, then record a mix once I was happy with it (which you can see in the top-left of the video).
The video is far from what I wanted it to be, but my PC has almost completely died over the last couple weeks, so editing was near impossible. I'll have to get a new CPU and motherboard soon I guess.
The original track is on my album here: https://tomorrowthecure.bandcamp.com/..."

VirSyn's Addictive Pro for the iPad Now Available

iTunes: Addictive Pro - VirSyn

You can find two demo videos previously posted here and here.

"The hybrid synthesis algorithm on which Addictive Pro is based provides you with efficient means for easy control of complex sounds far beyond usual sound synthesis methods:

Addictive Pro provides you a with unique form of Wavetable oscillators. These Wavetables are generated from the harmonic content and the free digital filter structure entered by the user.

The sound of up to 12 of this Wavetable oscillators is then further refined with a classic analog filter available in several 24dB and 12dB forms.

For the optional noise part of the sound you can use the same sophisticated digital filter struct as for the wavetable oscillators allowing for a vast variety of ever changing noisescapes.

The intelligent sound and rhythm randomizer can be applied to different sound aspects separately for really useful sound design and inspiration.

A four part polyrhythm Arpeggiator creates complex rhythmical structures with a touch of a finger.

VirSyn Introduces VoxSyn Vocoder Vocal Sound Generator for iPad / iPhone

Published on Jun 23, 2016 virsyn

iTunes: VoxSun - VoxSun Telecom

"VoxSyn turns your voice into the most flexible vocal sound generator ever. Instantly following even subtle modulations of pitch and spectral changes of your voice VoxSyn creates signature vocal sounds far beyond traditional vocoding.

Talk or sing into the microphone and you’ll trigger various synthesizer sounds following your voice pitch or the notes touched on the hexagonal keyboard / external MIDI Keyboard. The basic sounds are selected from a vast pool of predefined sounds from the famous TERA synthesis engine which can be further expanded by its unique random sound generator.

The harmonic table note layout visualizes your voices pitch in realtime and also let you play notes for more traditional vocoder effects."

VirSyn Addictive Synth demo, by Pulse Emitter

Published on Apr 26, 2016 Pulse Emitter

iTunes: Addictive Synth - VirSyn

"It's true, my favorite synthesizer of the past year or so is not hardware, not a plug-in, but a $7 iPad app. That's right, it's VirSyn's Addictive Synth. They are no bedroom operation though, this German company has made serious soft synths for ages and has only in recent years started using their technology for iPad apps. This amazing little synth uses a unique combination of synthesis methods, incorporating additive, wavetable, FM, and filter morphing. The modulation section is hardwired just the way I like, I think this thing was made for me! Incredibly evocative, emotional, shifting tones. Great sounding effects, an awesome programmable arpeggiator, and the best random patch generation button ever! It yields so many useful results. Needless to say, in this video all sounds, effects, and arpeggios were made from the app itself with nothing else save a MIDI keyboard. All for the price of lunch (minus the cost of the iPad itself, haha).

DreamsOfWires - Minitaur, Monotron, Micromoog, SH-1

Published on Apr 23, 2016 DreamsOfWires

"Headphones or decent speakers recommended - some of the frequencies/sounds will have been lost in YouTube's compression anyway, but watching in HD might help. Otherwise I've also uploaded it to Soundcloud [embed below]

1st & last sounds/melody: Minitaur
Beating sound: Micromoog
Drones: Monotron x3, followed by Roland SH-1
Melody in the middle: SH-1
Hurriedly (perhaps horribly) recorded in Cubasis for iPad, using Virsyn's AudioReverb as a send effect.
Video recorded on an iPhone 5 and a Lumix GX7. Unfortunately it's almost impossible to see the stars in the final footage due to video compression, I should have considered that."

DreamsOfWires - Volca Keys & Loopy HD

Published on Jan 25, 2016 DreamsOfWires

"If I need to think about something I'll go somewhere, often the beach. If I don't want to think about something I'll play video games. I'm not sure where making music lies between those two. Somewhere I guess.

Recording: It's just a bunch of sustained notes recorded into Loopy, using a midi fader app to control loop volumes (in this case the free version of Midi Designer), then a Volca sequence was added. The output of Loopy was recorded into Virsyn's AudioReverb."

DreamsOfWires - Minibrute & Half Life

Published on Jan 6, 2016 DreamsOfWires

Thought this was pretty cool. More musical bits start at 3:13 but the beginning is definitely worth watching through.

"I've been playing some old games recently, so I thought I'd nod my head to an old favourite; Half Life, which seemed like a good excuse to see what hideous noises I could get out of the Minibrute. I recorded the base 'noise' track (which is what you can see me interfering with in the video) into Virsyn's 'Audio Reverb' app on the iPad. Then I added a second track of Minibrute + sequencer throughout most of the middle of the recording, (which I was too lazy to capture on video). I also mixed in some of the game's audio (dialogue only). Such an excellent and genuinely freaky game.

All sounds are from the Minibrute of course."

DreamsOfWires - Arpeggist & Magellan (iPad)

Published on Dec 2, 2015 DreamsOfWires

"I was mucking about with Arpeggist and Magellan on my iPad, so I thought I'd share it. I was thinking about the video game series 'Mass Effect' whilst making this, so I added some poorly recorded footage from my TV. I've played all 3 games through 3 or 4 times each in the past, so I guess that makes me a fan.
I strongly recommend listening with headphones, much of the sound is lost using mobile/laptop speakers. No additional processing/effects/mixing was used, all you can hear is Magellan only.
I am going to do more analogue stuff soon."

Magellan - Yonac Inc.
