More Super Sawtor Testing

YouTube Published on Jul 12, 2012 by JohnLRice

"Again, this is just some footage of me messing around with the excellent new Super Sawtor module from Happy Nerding. In this second test I go over some of the same things as before but with some annotations this time and also some new things.

The Super Sawtor takes a sawtooth wave from a VCO as an input and "animates" it so that it sounds anywhere from slightly modulated to something like many VCOs at once. It also works really well with sine and triangle waves.

Thanks for watching!"

Spirits Of The Temple Electric

YouTube via JohnLRice.
"This was a modular synth patch similar to the one used in my "They Don't Care What You Do" video. I was using it to play around with watching the output run through an oscilloscope to see what it looked like. I started liking the audio and I thought a video tape of the o-scope would be good enough for a quick and dirty YouTube video. Once I started playing around with video effects though, the whole thing turned into something breathtaking and mysterious! (IMHO of course! ;-)

Watch it once through as is and then go back at watch it again and randomly pause the playback in many places and you may be surprised at the images you see! I see different faces (human/animal/???), bodies, buildings, structures and cosmic landscapes etc . . . many with seemingly very iconic spiritual/religious overtones! I mused that by chance I had stumbled upon a way to view an alternative electronic dimension and the beings or spirits that live and rule there! (I sure do miss those old Outer Limits TV shows! ;-)

So, I hope you enjoy this. I may make a second version in the near future with the same music but just a selection of the images as a slide show so it will be easier to ponder and let your imagination run wild.

Thank you are taking the time to watch, rate and comment!"

Ladder 3,475,623

Published on May 1, 2013 JohnLRice·199 videos

"Just a quickly slapped together "high five" to Bob Moog for the honor he is posthumously receiving today for his ladder filter.

Those with sharp eyes and "in the know" will notice this is just a clone of the famous Moog 904A VCF. The 9504A clone was made by Don Martin in the 1990's I believe.

Other modules used included: Synth Tech MOTM VCOs, VCAs, ADSRs, VCAs and LFO Moon Modular sequencers COTK delay"

I MOTM

YouTube via JohnLRice
"I started playing around with the left over patch from my recent MOTM-485 exploration video and came up with a self running patch that sounded interesting to me, especially since there is really only one oscillator being used. (the MOTM-650 arpegiation, COTK C1680 delay and MOTM-485 weirdness really fill things out!)"

"Another simple test that also ended up as a little peice of 'music'. This time I was trying out the Synthesizers.com Q119 sequencer I recently received. This is my first sequence on it and I liked it enough to try to turn it into 'something'.

See the end of the video for setup details. Thanks for watching, rating and commenting! :-)"

Moon Modular 506 VC Modifier Experiments #1

Published on Jun 3, 2013 JohnLRice·207 videos

"Semi-random experiments with the new Moon Modular Voltage controlled Modifier module (a ladder VCF and VCA in one). it is a great sounding module and particularly convenient for putting together small but complete systems!

Thanks for watching!

Please Note: at certain sections, especially where the frequency is rolled off sharply there is some odd distortion/noise happening that was not in the original files or apparent while editing but showed up after the video was compiled! :-/ so, this isn't the module or even YouTube compression to blame this time, just something the Sony Vegas Movie Studio compiler didn't like."

Club Of The Knobs C961S - A Quick Demo

YouTube via JohnLRice | August 04, 2010

"I made this demo to show why I feel the COTK C961S is an essential accessory/companion module for the Moog style 960 sequential controllers or any step sequencer that uses voltage triggers.

Besides the COTK C961S and Synthesizers.com Q960, other modules used in this video that are "off camera" were:
3 x MOTM-300 VCOs
1 x MOTM-440 VCF
2 x MOTM-800 EGs
1 x MOTM-190 VCA
1 x MOTM-320 LFO (master clock)
1 x MOTM-390 LFO (PWM)

Mellotron M4000D - Card 03

John L Rice

"These are the sounds available on the Mellotron M4000D expansion card number 3, which will work in the original full sized M4000D, the Mini M4000D, and the M4000D Rack. (expansion cards are not compatible with the Mellotron Micro). I made this video so people that are interested in purchasing the card can get a general idea of what's on it.

INDEX:
0:00 Introduction With Solo Harp
1:20 Gino Vanelli Strings
7:34 Lead Sounds / Sound Effects
19:46 Music Master 600 Rhythms
24:40 Music Master 500 Rhythms/Accompaniments

The Mellotron company has a SoundCloud account and they have a lot of nice examples of the sounds on their available expansion cards, check it out! https://soundcloud.com/mellotronfactory

On this card there are individual sounds that can be played "normally" (solos and chords as on a piano or organ etc) and then there are sounds that are to be played one key at a time because they are either predefined chords or an accompaniment section. Accompaniments might be a single instrument like guitar or an entire band. There are also keys that that have percussion parts, sound effects, and melodic full band fills for intros and outros.

As always, thank you for watching, rating and commenting! 😎 If you are able to, please consider "buying me a coffee" if you found this content helpful or entertaining: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/JohnLRice"
