More over we will introduce our new products on Friday the 4th, 3:20pm at the Cinema (o120).

"This year will be about the Quadrantid Swarm release - we are actually waiting for the final product to come back from production.

Saddly we won't have the final version with us during the Superbooth.

It will feature the addition of a new cv input for the control of the Spread parameter of the oscillator, and a switch between decay and release for the envelope.

Oscillator modes have changed too!

We will start shipping the QS during the month of June."

Quadrantid Swarm meets Make Noise 0 Coast

"A demo of the 'Metal' instrument on the Quadrantid Swarms, which is playing the longer resonating sounds. The 0 Coast is the shorter percussive stabs.

The 'Metal' mode features 9 VCO's, 8 as per the other instrument models, and one to modulate them all. The character control then becomes the speed of VCO 9. You can use slower modulation speeds for resonating timbres which sound like bowed metal, as featured in this demo.

The square output of the LFO is triggering the gate input of the 0 coast, so the two are synced in a simple way for a generative type patch.

"In keyboard mode, the Quadrantid Swarm can play 8 notes of simple polyphony, one for each key. This video shows some badly played chords and melody on the 'String' instrument, without any of the wave folder so you get an idea of the oscillator sound. I am shaping the sound with the two filters, plus ping the resonance and sweeping the resonance to demonstrate the timbres that are hiding within"

eowave quadrantid swarm is now on Kickstarter, with a ship date of March/April. The following are the details from the campaign:

"The Quadrantid Swarm

The Quadrantid Swarm is a desktop touch synthesizer aimed at sound designers and musicians who are looking for an expressive tool to explore rich and unusual soundscapes with a direct intuitive approach.

Past research and development at eowave has contributed to a range of successful products aimed at musicians and performers - including sensor interfaces, MIDI devices, modular synthesizers and more. This has been honed and distilled in the Quadrantid Swarm. It is an instrument that has been designed openly - to be used with MIDI, alongside your modular synthesizer/CV sequencer or to be explored as a standalone drone/sequencer/generative synthesizer.

Modes

The QS now features 8 modes. Each should be considered a springboard for musical exploration, rather than a preset. The modes are not direct emulations of existing instruments, but they borrow on inspiration from their namesakes. We found that this was the best way to retain the immediacy of function per button design while offering a generous feature set. The QS will ship with a cheat sheet that details the specifics behind each mode - the waveform, perc sound and character effect.

Front panel

Building on the feedback we received at Superbooth 17, we have redesigned the front panel to be easier to read. This matte black PCB pictured below is the final material we will be using on production, although there is a mistake on this panel that will be rectified (white layer inverted!).

Oscillator

The oscillator section is a digital wave generator. In sequencer mode (activated when you push start) the spread control multiplies the waveform up to 8 waveforms. In live mode (sequencer not active) the spread control will not affect the oscillator because the 8 waveforms are spread across the touch keyboard to be used as a simple polyphonic synthesizer. Character controls a different effect or folder depending on the mode. The character effects/folders will help you design timbres that will range from clean and glassy to dense and distorted.

It is comprised of a digital synthesizer voice with a percussive element, 2 pole analog filter, 8 waveforms for modulation, and a spring reverb. The 8 touch keys can be used as a mono keyboard, polyphonic keyboard or an 8 step sequencer. The QS interfaces with other instruments via MIDI, and CV/Trig inputs.
