Some electronic Proggy/zeuhl inspired work that I did back in December when I was experimenting with Ableton live. I used the live mode, and am not that familiar with that DAW yet, so the arrangement lacks variation, but it works nicely as a modal vessel for some lead improvisation. I used organs and FM bass patches from my Yamaha Montage alongside a layered Lead sound based that I programmed on the Yamaha An1x and Waldorf Q.

Yamaha AN1X Incredible 2 Demo Sounds HD no talking

"Yamaha AN1X (my version i have modified) this is a vintage synthesizer that never ceases to amaze me with its capabilities over the years. It produces millions of unique sounds that you can dream, fall asleep to, imagine a fantasy world and just enjoy what this unique synthesizer of the late 90s can generate. Its minor flaws do not bother me in order to love this synthesizer, which the modern manufacturer Yamaha still cannot repeat. ;-)

Its sound is pure as a baby's tear, unlike the sound of the Virus TI synthesizer, for example. In what order would I sell the VA synths? Clavia would be the first to sell everything. Many Korg from this category VA would also put up for sale. Roland JP80xx got tired after 5 days. Wouldn't leave a single Waldorf! Novation Supernova 2 would also sell without regret. Without Virus TI, my life would not be boring. Alesis ION would not have stayed with me. And only AN1x I would sell the very last turn.

What is the uniqueness of AN1x? If you understand how the music of the 90s differed from our days, how vinyl differs from CD, then you will understand that AN1X is also unique."

Yamaha AN1x vs Oberheim OB-X8: Can an analog synth match the glory of a vintage VA???

"A bit of a click-baity and facetious title. But there is a goal here. The Yamaha AN1x "005 Soar" preset is magical, majestic, glorious, epic, wonderful, etc. It uses 2 layers, or "scenes" as they're called on the AN1x. 1 layer is a soft floaty arpeggiated line and the other is an epic whooshing pad. It maxes out the use of onboard FX, using chorus, delay, and reverb. The FX mix is obviously very wet too, and maybe too much as it can get kind of muddy.

Anytime I get a synth that can do layers, I try to make a similar patch. It doesn't matter if it's an analog or digital synth. Some synths that I've tried have been the Sequential Rev2, Nord Lead 2, and Roland System-8. Out of those, the System-8 got pretty close, though not quite as epic. The other 2 didn't really impress me at all. So I guess you could say I'm still searching for something that can capture the magic of the original. And by the way, the goal isn't to make them sound exactly the same, but more to get similar epic vibes and feels. I just got the OB-X8, so I had to try it. I added delay and reverb from my go-to Audiothingies Doctor A. The dry/wet mix is about 50/50. The Audiothingies unit just seems to meld well with input sources, rather than taking them over. The arpeggiated layer uses the OB-Xa 24db low pass filter, and the pad layer uses the OB-X SEM 12db low pass filter. A winning combo, if you ask me!

New Yamaha MODX+ w/ AN-X Engine Rumored to be in the Works

You might remember Yamaha recently trademarked the AN-X name.

It looks like the AN-X analog modeling engine first used in the AN1X and later AN200, might be featured in an upcoming MODX+.

"It should be noted that what follows is, for the moment at least, only speculation. Yamaha has not yet released any specifications for the MODX+

The New MODX+ is rumoured to have double the memory of the original MODX. This would bring it into line with the Montage. And a possible increase in polyphony as well as a third synth engine in the form of AN-X.

There is also speculation that the Montage will receive quite a major firmware update which will include the AN-X engine.

Release date is muted to be within the first two weeks of September.

Pricing is expected to be the same as the original MODX."
