Ztar Starr Labs Z7S Synth Guitar Midi Controller

images via this auction
"one of the most advanced and sophisticated synth guitars/midi controllers ever developed, the Starr Labs Ztar, model Z7S. This is a state of the art, top of the line midi controller, and if you're not familiar with this custom-designed, handmade instrument, I suggest researching this incomparable device on the Starr Labs webpage. I purchased two of these less than one year ago, and truly only have enough time and imagination for one, so I am selling one of them. It is 100% operational, and features a Blue Metallic finish, silver Schaller Strap Lock nuts, and includes the Original Owners Manual, Case, and Power Supply. These are currently being sold for $ 1,800, and the waiting list to receive one is approximately 3-7 months."

Roland MC-09

images via this auction
"The MC-09 PhraseLab is an all-in-one production tool combining a DSP synth, rythm machine, step sequencer, four-part audio looper and effects processor. With this single instrument, musicians can create fat analog synth and rhythm sounds which can be sequenced and then sampled (along with phrases taken from external sources) using the four-part audio looper. An onboard effects processor and cool functions like Chop make the PhraseLab a killer remix machine.
Killer TB-303 emulation and great TR-606 drums
Tabletop synth/audio looper with onboard sequencing and effects
DSP monosynth creates fat synth lead, bass and rhythm sounds
Audio looper plays back 4 monaural phrases up to 6 sec. each
Onboard step sequencer with easy programming including TR-REC method
Easy automatic looping using BPM and measures
Loop Control function for controlling loop playback via step sequencer
4 built-in effects: Filter, Isolator, Phaser and Slicer
SmartMedia slot for pattern/audio storage; MIDI In/Out
3 audio demos can be downloaded THERE"

Integrated circuit is 50 years old today

And what did the first one do? Synthesis!!! Yes!!!

"The first microchip (pictured) was first demonstrated by Jack Kilby from Texas Instruments on 12 September 1958. It might not be much to look at, but then Texas Instruments admits that Kilby often remarked that if he’d known he’d be showing the first working integrated circuit for the next 40-plus years, he would’ve ‘prettied it up a little.’ The chip worked, though, producing a sine wave on an oscilloscope screen at the demo."
