Vinyl Rally

YouTube via yeldham — June 23, 2010 — "Car POV racing at the Vinyl Rally; a participatory play-set, kinetic sound and video installation combining vinyl fetishism, video arcade mystique and the machismo of motor sports into a in a video racing game played within a real world setting!

Imagine racing remote control cars with audio pick-ups attached to their chassis through a course constructed from a mass of disused vinyl records. Using vintage video arcade consoles and immersive video projections of the cars P.O.V. competitors will not only control the movements of the vehicles but also the parameters of the resulting sounds they create.

The rule is synths only. I'll justify this one as a DIY vinyl sampler.

Music From Outer Space Sequencer with Circular Pots

via Nath Null Object

"We’ve seen this circular design before but what is new here is my mate made a circuit board for the pots and switches on his home built CNC router.

He designed the boards using the program Flash and machined up the boards and the panel which is a 2 layer Perspex, green on top and white underneath.

This is his prototype front panel but the end result will be done in a thicker material."

Elektron Presents The Trinity, Part I

YouTube via ElektronHQ — June 23, 2010 — "This is an improvised DJ/live set using only the Elektron Octatrack, Machinedrum and Monomachine. Everything is done live. No additional effects or mixers were used.

The Octatrack plays back time stretched loops and samples. At the same time it sends out MIDI clock to the Machinedrum and the Monomachine. The audio outputs from these two units are connected to the two input pairs of the Octatrack. This makes the Octatrack function as a powerful mixer and effects unit in addition to being a sound source.

Thanks to Microfusa for shooting the videos.

Kalimba x Moogerfoogers x Multi-Pedal

YouTube via MoogMusicInc — June 23, 2010 — "Run anything through your Moogerfoogers (even Kalimbas!) to create more dynamic soundscapes. In this video, a sample and hold waveform from the Multi-Pedal modulates the oscillator frequency of the Ring Mod while it creates aural cascades by controlling the feedback of the Analog Delay."

Early Model ARP EXPLORER1 SYNTH MK1 2900

via this auction

"974-75 ARP EXPLORER I, model#2900, first version/mark 1... I got most of my information from www.vintagesynthexplorer.com so please visit that site, however it's a rarer ARP synth, my version is earlier than the unit pictured on that great site, the info is limited so here are a few more specifics:
The ARP Explorer model 2900 has only one oscillator but same design as used in the production of the larger model 2600. The ARP Explorer has the same oscillator and controls(plus noise waveform) and effects section(plus portamento and auto-bend) used on the popular ARP LITTLE BROTHER. Unfortunately only one each 1/4 and RCA mono outputs.

The Explorer I uses the same chassis and endcaps as the PRO-SOLOIST, same 37 key keybed, Explorer has no aftertouch.

This Explorer I 2900 first version has the same panel cosmetics (gold lettering on black) and slider tip color scheme of the 1974-76 Odyssey Mk II

Combination of subtractive and semi-additive (one oscillator) synthesis with 4 pitch ranges , select one, all, or any combination. Five waveforms, select one, all, or any combination.

Pitch bend knob with 1 octave up or down keyboard range just like Mk 1&2 Odyssey.

Switchable between preset and manual mode for both ADSR section and filter section- a standard gate is the ADSR "preset", the filter is a 4-pole lowpass filter with cutoff and res.

LFO has separate level control in the upper section, and in the lower effects section, speed and vibrato depth, with vibrato delay on/off, or a single-note sample-and hold or perpetual "repeat" with "auto" or "KYBRD" modes also using the LFO speed as repeat rate.

Nice and dark sounding, warmth, and obviously a very 1970s sound."
