The Packrat - June - September 2011

I realize I haven't put up a Packrat post in a while. The last one was back in April covering December - May. Below is June - September. You can find the full archive of The Packrat tunes on Dave C. Lovelace's umop.com here. Be sure to check out the rest of his work as well. There's tons of it, and it's aawllll goooood stuff. BTW, you'll find a MATRIXSYNTH Packrat that has a permanent home on the right this site. Dave made it back in 2006.

June

"Packrat meets Bog Moog in 1964!"

July

"Still stuck in 1964, the Packrat heads to San Francisco to find Don Buchla."

August

"Buchla is forever changed by his first encounter with a keytar..."

September

"Packrat figures he's permanently beach-bound in 1967, until he hears the dulcet tone of a theremin!"

BETA: The future of iOS music continued

BETA: The future of iOS music continued from Shoulda Woulda Coulda on Vimeo.

"This is a preview of an upcoming polychord release. In this video, we're using polychord (BETA) as a MIDI keyboard for nLog Pro (BETA) -- all on one iPad, all without any cables.

App makers are starting to work together to make all of your iOS music apps play nicely with each other through virtual MIDI.

This is still experimental, and it will be a little while until app makers optimize their apps for multitasking, and enable virtual MIDI. It's very exciting and clearly the future of iOS music making.

If you are a developer, get involved with the open music app group: groups.google.com/group/open-music-app-collaboration"

Introducing sympleSEQ -- the simple to build analog step-sequencer

"Analogue sequencing was once extremely intimidating to new comers to the DIY synth community, due to the inherent complexity of assembling them. All of the off-board wiring would drive people away. The sympleSEQ does away with that, and mounts almost every control surface to an easily panel-mounted circuit board. (with included drilling template).

Everyone thinks step-sequencer when they think 'analog synths', and thus everyone wants one (or two, or eight!)

sympleSEQ aims to bring analog step-sequencing delight to all builders, and also offers very competitive pricing. Most sequencer kits are much more expensive, and are nowhere near as easy to assemble. sympleSEQ is also easily scalable, so building a massive multi-channel sequencer is easy!

I encourage you to take a peek at the IndieGoGo.com fundraising campaign where a group-buy is being funded in order to produce the PCBs and kits for everyone for more information. Also I have a thread over on electro-music"

"This is a looper that'll come out to play, but get down to work when you want to get serious.

While other music creation apps tend to be either powerful but difficult to learn, or easy to use but limited in features, Loopy 2 doesn't compromise. More advanced users, however, will not be disappointed by Loopy 2's rich feature set, with extra features many other loopers just don't have. Plus, a sophisticated interactive tutorial system lets users discover Loopy 2's more advanced features at their own pace.

"Just trying out my new(to me) iMs-20 app. on my new.
Using an "Analogue synth." on the iPad's touch screen is a lot more fun than clicking with a mouse on my PC.
Just couldn't resist those Kaoss pads.
I'm just using the pre-set "ambient " template here, but I hope to make some of my own noises soon."
