"This DX has a toggle switch for each voice, allowing choosing between two different samples for each. The regular 2764 EPROMs were replaced with 27128 types. Some relatively minor circuit board mods were required."

Synare PS-1 Analog Drum Percussion Synthesizer w/Trig In & Noise Mods

via the listing: "About a year ago the noise section went out on it, so I sent it to Switched-On Music Electronics in Austin, TX for repairs. While it was in I decided to have it modded with trigger inputs to bypass the pads, so it could be sequenced with an analog sequencer, or by a modular synth. The tech doing the mods also talked me into modding the noise section with a pot that lowers the bit rate of the noise (think NES video game explosions at low rates). The repairs and mods cost $400, so think of that as something you shouldn't have to do anytime soon if you decide to buy this.

Another notable thing about this unit is the amazing condition of the pads. I've never seen one with pads in this good of condition and is one of the main reason I originally picked this up. The pads work great, although some areas on the outside of the pads take a slightly harder hit to respond. That's another good reason for the trigger input mods.

For anyone who hasn't heard one of these, the closest things I can think of that it sounds like is an ARP Odyssey, or an MS-20. Everything is more geared for percussion though, so think weird metallic pings, and massive pink and white noise gongs. The pads can be tuned so that each of the 4 pads have 3 sections and therefor 12 notes. Not particularly easy to play melodic things that way but it might help you come up with things you wouldn't normally play on a regular synth with keys. I find it more useful for percussive clangs and booms. Sounds amazing when mixed and triggered with another analog drum machine like a Korg Rhythm 55."

Chimera BC16 mini modular analogue synthesizer with CV and MIDI

via this auction

"On offer is one Chimera BC16 digital/analog mini modular monosynth. One of the coolest pieces of kit to appear in recent years. Used (allegedly) by the likes of Depeche Mode and Throbbing Gristle.

Sadly, the BC16's maker's business acumen was rather less well developed than his inventiveness (to put it mildly), so they were only made for a short while in very small quantities. Rare as the proverbial hen's teeth! Nevertheless it makes some wonderful analoggy (sic.) noises and is great fun to use.

This is from, I believe, the last batch of BC16s made, and has firmware version 3, which is as good as they got, I think. As far as I can tell, it is working perfectly. Midi and CV work as they should, and it makes squelchy, gritty and gnarly bleeping noises! What more could you want? It's actually a very capable little synth when used via Midi.

As you can see in the pictures, I have added labels for the various knobs and patch points. The labels can of course easily be removed if serendipity is your thing, but I have found them rather useful getting to know the beast!

Included are the essential control signal inverter (so the BC16 can talk to other CV gear such as Moogs etc.) and ten mini banana patch cables. I'll include a print of the manual, such as it is. The company went belly up before they got round to finishing the manual, but the essentials are there.

Specs:
1 ADSR
1 LFO
1 VCA
2 linked VCOs
24dB VCF
Noise source
Ring modulator
Headphone amplifier
Arpeggiator
Midi and/or CV control
Requires 6 AAA batteries"

"A 4093 quad-nand synth with added PT2399 delay effect built in.
Also with added line-in to hook up external sources to the delay module."

via this auction

"A lovely macabre square-wave nosie maker based around a 4093 quad nand gate CMOS chip.
Capable of hideously beautiful beepy noise.

The 4 oscillators interact with each other to create a relentless range of synth tones.

The power starve dial adds further modulation and manipulation of the oscillations.

Added to this bleeper is a digital delay circuit, built from a PT2399.
The controls are for delay time and looping feedback.
It's lo-fi, filthy and full of gritty digital artifacts when longer delay times are used.

The skull fits well into the palm and can be enjoyed by anyone with a passion for harsh, grinding noise terrorism.
It's powered by a single 9v battery which is housed in a holder on the back of the skull head.
There's a 6.35mm jack socket for hooking up to your amp/mixer/effects.
There's also a line-in socket too so you can dirty & delay your other instruments.
There's no internal speaker!

The hollow of the skull is illuminated by a flickering red candle-effect LED."
