"The ARP Little Brother was designed as an add-on for anyone who owned a 1-, 2-, or 3-oscillator synthesizer such as an ARP Axxe, Odyssey or 2600. By connecting 4 cables (for Control Voltage, Gate, Trigger and Audio) the Little Brother could provide an additional oscillator voice to any synthesizer. The distinctive feature of the LIttle Brother was the fact that the additional oscillator could be heard in up to 4 octaves simultaneously, so that a 2-oscillator synthesizer (such as an Odyssey) could now be sounding 6 pitches for each key pressed. The Little Brother was built for 1 volt/octave systems, so that it could be added to a number of other synthesizers, not just the ARP models.

The Little Brother also has a separate Low Frequency Oscillator as well, with front panel controls for frequency, depth (amplitude) and a delay switch so that the LFO kicks in a short time after the trigger voltage stars a note, creating a more natural vibrato. The LFO output (sine wave only) is also available on the back panel to be used as an additional modulation source. The visual style is the same as early (pre-black/orange) ARP models, but with walnut end panels, making it look more like the ARP String Ensemble or Explorer.

PAIA Stringz n' Thingz String Synthesizer

" The PAIA Stringz n' Thingz was PAIA's answer to the ARP String Ensemble. Jon Simonton used a top-octave chip with octave dividers to create an affordable polyphonic synthesizer in kit form in the late 70s. While it doesn't have all of the richness of the ARP/Solina string synthesizer, this PAIA unit is in some ways better -- it included a piano(ish) polyphonic sound that was fully mixable with the strings; the violin/viola section could be separated from the cello sound at two different keyboard split points, and probably best of all, the modulation for the string sound (sort of a phaser/flanger effect) was fully controllable by the player, unlike the ARP sound, which was fixed to their idea of a good string sound. There are two outputs, one for the piano sound alone, and one for a piano/string mix, the balance of which is controlled by a pot on the control panel."

Tape 002

Tape 002 from Rastko Lazic on Vimeo.

Recently I have acquired two Kommander`s from Koma Elektronic.

The Kommander`s provide the Serge modular synth with gate and CV signals by tracking my hand movements.

This is very similar to the possibilities of the Theremin , https://vimeo.com/42150452 , but in a much smaller package.
On the other hand Theremin is a self contained instrument and Kommander is not.

More info on the Kommander can be found at Koma`s page www.koma-elektronik.com.

Vangelis Improvisation (better image & sound)

YouTube Uploaded by Nimanty on Nov 28, 2010

"Rare footage of Vangelis performing an improvisation on synthesizer at his Nemo Studios.

Recording of this performance took place by Spanish Television in 1982, also when Neuronium (Michel Huygen) visited Vangelis to perform together.

Some enhancement of the original tape video with denoising, contrast improvement and color correction.
Sound remastering for better clearity and stereo imaging.

Enjoy! - Nimanty -"
