Rob Papen's RP-Distort RE

RP-Distort RE Tutorial

Published on Nov 14, 2012 by Rob Papen

"RP-Distort RE is not just a distortion unit, but much more. The distortion unit inside RP-Distort RE can be combined with an analog modeled filter, compressor and widener unit.

These units can be re-order, but also can be turned on or off. So in case you only want a great analog modeled filter... RP-Distort RE can offer this. Or only the unique widener unit which is great for widening a boring mono track.

On top of that, the controls can be modulated using midi sources or by one of the 4 build in LFOs that can sync to your host tempo..

The distortion unit offers 22 distortion types included ring modulator and lo-fi. Inside this section you can also find the EQ and noise-gate.

RP-Distort RE is in fact a wicked FX unit that will distort or alter your tracks in an inspirational way."

Arturia Announces Spark DubStep

Arturia SparkDUBSTEP Presentation

Published on Nov 14, 2012 by Arturiaweb

"Arturia announces availability of SPARK DubStep

GRENOBLE, FRANCE: music software and hardware company Arturia is proud to announce availability of SPARK DubStep, a powerful production and performance software suite dedicated to heavy-duty dubstep rhythm track construction, as of November 13...

Catering to the rhythmically distinctive needs of discerning dubstep producers globally, SPARK DubStep features a comprehensive library of 30 cutting-edge kits/480 instruments created in partnership with London-based leading pro audio loops and samples provider Sample Magic, themselves cited as being “...one of the elite dance sample venders.” Atomic wobble basses, filthy FX, dirty drums... it’s all there for the taking!

Yet SPARK DubStep is not just another sample library, but rather a complete rhythm track construction kit par excellence, boasting 960 pre-programmed MIDI patterns of harding-hitting drums, virtual analogue synths, and filter-modulated mayhem — perfect for putting together tomorrow’s pure wobble anthemic hits, or revisiting EDM and hip-hop stylings on dub steroids! A remixer’s dream team player, perhaps.

SPARK DubStep’s powerful, yet inherently user-friendly interface makes beat- and bass pattern-creation a breeze — especially when using the step sequencer situated at the top of the default centre panel. Hardware drum machine enthusiasts will feel right at home here. And thanks to advanced looping modes cleverly combined with the XY pad’s real-time slicing and filtering controls, users will be producing stunning breaks with the best of them in no time at all — perfect for live performance!

Each and every one of those 480 instruments comes complete with 12 sound-sculpting parameters to promptly put your own stamp on the resultant sound: modify the noise colour of hi-hats; clip basses using various analogue filters; adjust the LFO rate and depth of a wobble bass... the creative possibilities are almost endless! But musical creativity need not stop there. Far from it, in fact!

Mix fine-tuning is a given, with SPARK DubStep’s integrated 16-channel mixer offering 14 high-quality effects and also mapping of each instrument’s stereo output to the host DAW when seamlessly running as a plug-in (RTAS, AU, VST3) with real- time automation available on all parameters. And it’s even possible to export patterns as .wav or MIDI files to the DAW — simply drag-and-drop any pattern from the currently open kit to have it automatically rendered in the chosen format.

Of course, performers wishing to use SPARK DubStep as a standalone instrument independently from a software sequencer and play it from their favourite MIDI keyboard- or drumpad-based controller are perfectly free to do so. Either way, all onscreen key knobs and pads are easily assignable via MIDI.

So whatever your preference — production or performance, take the next step to dubstep with SPARK DubStep... and beat the future!

SPARK DubStep can be purchased as a software download for €99.00 EURO/$99.00 USD or boxed for €119.00 EURO/$129.00 USD from Arturia’s Online Shop: http://www.arturia.com/evolution/en/buy/online-shop.html"

"This video has a little bit of everything... lol It features a quick look behind the scenes at the Moog Factory in Asheville, NC. We have a little history of the Theremin, and a peek of one being made in the factory... all the while PRIMUS jamming in the Moog Sound Lab. There is even a rare little jam with Les Claypool on electric drums and Jay Lane playing "Who's got the funk" on Les's acoustic bass! As I said... this video has everything! :)

The great folks at Moog Music were AMAZING! Asheville was AMAZING! Primus was AMAZING! Les Claypool is ALWAYS AMAZING (he even took a minute to pose for a picture goo.gl/pSisp )!

Thanks everyone... What an overall AMAZING time! :)"

"This is the Ruin Electronics CDS-2 (Compact Drone Synth). This is a one of a kind instrument. It was professionally built and designed by Ruin. The unit has been built into a vintage transistor radio case. Faux wood grain, chrome, and brushed aluminum give it a classy retro look. The CDS-2 is new; no previous owners.

The CDS-2 is a 100% Analog synthesizer in a sturdy case with a fashionable carrying handle. The CDS-2 is a two voice drone synthesizer with CV inputs for pitch and filter frequency. The CDS-2 is not only a Drone and noise Synthesizer, but a sound effects generator. The CDS-2 is excellent for use with sequencers and other modular gear. The filters sound very vocal and organic when in bandpass mode and nice and chunky in lowpass. Paired with the thick oscillators, some strange alien vocalizations can be made. The CDS-2 offers a wide range of sounds with its excellent compliment of functions. There is no other drone/noise/experimental synth out there like this, especially in such a compact package! Despite being small, there is still plenty of room to use the controls so no play-ability is sacrificed.

Space sounds, crackles, hums, percussion, alien speech, warbles, zaps, clangs, bangs, basslines, sequencer runs, rhythms. This is a great unit for performance, sampling, or just plain old fun!

The units approximate measurements are:

7.5" width x 3" depth x 5.5" height

The unit features:

2x Square/Triangle waveform VCOs (Voltage Controlled Oscillators) with individual tuning per oscillator. The oscillators go from subsonic to ultrasonic with a twist of the control.
2x Triangle/Square waveform LFOs (Low Frequency Oscillators) for modulation. The LFOs can be routed to either the VCF or VCO. Each LFO has a Depth and Speed control and a switch to select either VCF or VCO modulation.
Bandpass/Lowpass VCF (Voltage Controlled Filter). The filter is extremely resonant and will self oscillate when in bandpass mode. The VCFs have a Frequency and Resonance control and a switch for Lowpass/Bandpass response.
2 Channel Mixer Each voice has its own level control which is fed to the final output stage.
CV inputs for VCF and VCO control Both voices share the same VCF and VCO CV inputs so you can easily sequence both voices of the CDS-2 with the same cv. This allows for great layred sequenced sounds.
Output Overdrive The output stage is capable of nice gritty distortion with its own gain control.
1/4" Output
9V battery or DC adapter. With a choice of either 9V battery or external DC adapter the unit can be a portable unit for busking or impromptu outside jam sessions (when accompanied by a portable amplifier such as This ) or a studio piece. Featuring an on board regulator the unit will clean up any power source from 9-15V"

"The built in true analog filter sounds great. You get a ton of control with touch, breath, bite & sliders. I mostly use the touch pad patched into CV inputs on my Korg MS10. The slides move & work like new. You can run any instrument thru its nice filter. I have used the breath out to VCO to control pitch while bite to filter, worked fine but I hardly ever had the tubes hooked to it. Original manual & tubes included, the plastic is still on the data plate..."
