NAMM 2013: Arturia MiniLab

MiniLab Tutorial

Published on Jan 24, 2013 Arturiaweb·81 videos

"COMPACT SIZE BUT FEATURE RICH

Arturia’s MiniLab USB Controller marries the style you love with the hands-on control and portability you need to take your studio wherever you go.

Made for the musician on the go or the performer with limited space, the MiniLab gives you a great depth of features in a portable package that is sturdy and looks great.

Combined with the Analog Lab software, you get a real hybrid synthesizer that comes with a collection of 5000 sounds from the Modular V, CS-80V, Mini V, Arp 2600V, Jupiter 8V, Prophet V, Oberheim SEM V, and Wurlitzer V.
USD 129 / EURO 99

MAIN FEATURES:
25 note velocity sensitive mini keyboard.
16 encoders
16 pads (two banks of 8 pads/buttons)
Pitchbend/Modulation touch strip
Footswitch input
Recessed full sized USB jack
Bus powered, Class compliant
Works with iPAD (camera connection kit required)
Comes with Analog Lab software
5000 sounds from the best synths and keyboards

Control Freak

The MiniLab offers you more control options than any other compact USB/MIDI controller on the market.

Minilab features 25 velocity sensitive mini-keys alongside our brand new pitch and modulation touch controls, giving you maximum expression and playability in a highly portable package. 16 encoders make sure you have everything you need to program or perform wherever life takes you. Two banks of 8 backlit performance pads, for 16 total, can easily be assigned as pads, MIDI CC buttons or Program change switches. The recessed full sized MIDI jack will keep your connection safe and out of the way. Add to all this, an assignable pedal input jack and you have the premiere mobile keyboard solution.
Thanks for the memories

Having direct access to 8 user presets further expands all of this control.

MiniLab offers our free MIDI Control Center software that lets you map parameters in a simple and easy way directly from your computer. Those presets are then stored in the hardware for instant recall.

Take it on the run

The MiniLab keyboard is designed for maximum portability, flexibility and performance. It is small enough to fit in a laptop bag but big on features.
The 16 encoders and the ergonomic spacing of the knobs keep this small controller from feeling cramped.
The touch sensitive faders for Pitchbend and Modulation offer low profile controllers with ‘last position hold’ or ‘return to zero’ modes of operation.

Hybrid Synthesizer

The power of the features and visual styling are obvious but sound? Yes, sound, we also include our new Analog Lab software. This software gives you over 5000 of the best classic synth and keyboard sounds around. The interface also adapts to your MiniLab interface for a nice 1:1 user experience.

The front panel controls will automatically map to the most used parameters of each sound in Analog Lab. Functions like Cutoff, Resonance, Envelope controls, LFO rates, etc. all are mapped automatically to the knobs on the front panel.

You can browse and load your sounds from the hardware that gives you a true hardware synth feel.

The pads on the MiniLab give you two different performance features.

Pads 1-8 allow you to set up chords that you can recall. This is perfect for triggering arpeggiated sounds that you want have play a specific set of notes or set the pad to Toggle mode and allows you to hold ambient drones.

Pads 9-16 allow you access to snapshots. Snapshots are a way to choose a collection of your favorite SOUNDS or MULTIS for instant recall.

"REDEFINING THE DRUM MACHINE

SparkLE is the newest hybrid instrument from Arturia that will take your beat creation to new levels. By combining the amazing sounds, work flow and creative tools of the Spark Engine software, with the high quality SparkLE controller, Arturia has created the ultimate beat creating powerhouse.

Backlit velocity and pressure sensitive Pads
Touch sensitive FX pad

Hardware overview :

Hardware shouldn't be hard

SparkLE gives you that classic ‘TR’ style workflow by inputting your patterns from the step sequencer buttons or letting you choose to lay down your beats in real time using the 8 velocity and pressure sensitive backlit pads.

Create stunning live performances with the advanced Looper and the XY pads beat slicer functions.
Quickly load projects, kits and instruments using the jog dial encoder.

Transform your beats with the touch sensitive FX pad that features 8 filter modes (including our Oberheim SEM filter) and 7 different Slicer modes.

Write automation and control your sounds in real-time with the 3 assignable encoders and the 3 Instrument modes on the XY pad.

Our TUNE mode allows you to choose an instrument and then play chromatic pitches across the 16 buttons or the 8 pads (depending on your preference settings). This allows you to have your kick drum follow the bass root note for deep lows, play a synth bass/lead sound or transform a percussion sound into a pitched instrument.

Software overview:

Software that is not soft on features

The Spark Engine features sample playback and layering, but then goes beyond any other drum software by adding a Virtual Analog engine, that is based on our famous TAE® analog modeling technology, as well as a Physical Modeling engine that allows you to create some amazing realism in your sounds.
The vast sound library, that is constantly expanding, gives you top notch, pro sounds that cover a variety of genres and styles designed to get the people up on the dance floor. You can further enhance all this within the Studio and Mixer pages that allow total control over your sound and final mix.
A wide range of excellent quality and unique effects allows you to create super basses, tight snares and wildly processed samples and synths.
Along with the Spark Engine's endless array of sonic possibilities, the Pattern view page shows a detailed view of your current beat and automation channels. You can go in with surgical precision using pencil and line tools to create or edit automation for each instrument, parameter, and effect.
Add to this a Song mode that allows you to chain your patterns to create full arrangements ready for mix down.
The Spark Engine has a 1:1 interface with your hardware that allows you to see what is going on and gives you an excellent user interface for those times when you aren’t using your hardware to control the software (yes, some other systems won’t work without the hardware attached).

In essence, SparkLE is a fun, straight forward and most importantly, musical experience that will inspire you every time you use it."

2013 NAMM: Yamaha Mobile Music Sequencer for iPad

Yamaha Mobile Music Sequencer - Overview - iPad App

Published on Jan 23, 2013 yamahajp·1,200 videos

Introductory Offer Price! (until the end of February 2013)
Yamaha's new Mobile Music Sequencer enables composers to combine a range of phrase patterns and create musical compositions intuitively, following the flow of composition, from phrases to sections and from sections to songs.
Wherever you are, you can now sketch the outline of a composition. In addition, you can use the ingredients to delicately craft songs on a Yamaha synthesizer, or in Steinberg Cubase.

First, try loading the demo song (a number of demo songs are provided). Tap on the settings icon in the top right of the screen, select [Digital Sympathy] from the Presets under the File tab, and press the Load button to read in the song.

Create a song right away as follows:

Step 1-Create phrases
You can choose from a rich selection of 382 preset phrases (the phrase is the smallest unit in the structure of a composition). Under Phrase in the View screen, tap on a cell in which no setting has been made, then tap on the Select button on the left. To listen to a preset phrase, tap on its name. It is also possible to use real-time recordings made using the keyboard within an application, or user phrases which have been created using piano roll input. Using the powerful Loop Remix function, it is possible to divide selected phrases at specified intervals and then order them automatically insert rolls or breaks, and thus rework them into new phrases.

Step 2-Create sections
Combine multiple phrases together to create a section. Phrases are arranged in a vertical block and playback is turned on and off using the Section button at the bottom of the screen. The phrases can be managed as a single unit.
By specifying codes for individual sections, you can easily create variations. Using the Create command you can also create a succession of new sections based on the phrase that is currently being played back, which allows production to proceed smoothly.

Step 3-Create Songs
Put together complete songs by pasting together sections. This is easily accomplished by touching the Section area and then just dragging and dropping sections into the data area. Naturally, you can also input sections by recording in real time or by using the piano roll screen.

Advantages
• Built-in software synth with 92 high-quality sounds (including 9 types of drumkit) enables faithful rendering of sequence patterns.
• Sound editing using filters, EG, and other effects
• Mixer function for each part
• Effects including reverb, chorus, and variations
• Additional phrases and sounds
Four additional voice and phrase datapacks can be purchased directly using the application. (Dance Pop, Electronic, Hip Hop, R&B)
• File export
As well as a function for outputting standard general-purpose MIDI files, the application also includes a function for exporting files in an even easier-to-use format designed for Yamaha synths, in which characteristic sounds are specified in advance. (MOTIF XF, S90XS/S70XS, MOX6/MOX8, and MOTIF XS)
• Mix-down
Audio mix-down of a song or a phrase and conversion of the song or the phrase to an audio file can be performed in real time.
• Compatibility with SoundCloud
Audio files can be made compatible with SoundCloud and uploaded."
