CENTRIC Tech 003 - Pink Floyd Midi Sequence: iPad to Analog

"In this episode I demonstrate the iPad Camera Connection Kit's ability to process midi in and out simultaneously. To do this I play Pink Floyd's "On The Run" sequence using the Little Midi Machine App for iPad to send midi to a Novation Bass Station analog synth, while play the bass riff for "Money" on the iPad app Animoog via an Arturia midi controller. Furthermore I show how you can actually control the sound parameters of an external synth using a custom made midi template in the app Midi Designer"

Update via David Warman in the comments: "The CCK driver in iOS is actually very complete. I have the following hooked up to my iPad (3rd gen) in my desktop setup:

7 port USB 2.0 hub with:

USB MIDI from an Akai SynthStation 25

USB Audio Mobile-Pre

USB MIDI (1x el cheapo) gateway to/from my MIDITap network (leads to my Mac and external synths and A-80 keyboard)

USB MIDI (2 logical ports) from UC-33 pot box with a KX-5 on its external MIDI port

USB MIDI Korg nanoKONTROL2 pot box

USB MIDI (1x el cheapo) PG-300 pot box for MKS-50 (external device) - need mapper from its Sysex to CC for iPad controls

USB LED lamp (doesn't really count except for power)

I power the hub from a 12Ah USB charger battery, seemingly never runs down. Everything else is USB powered from the hub.

Everything shows up in MidiBridge and works as expected, no noticeable latency playing live into any of the mIDI devices.

You can tell I'll be first in line for the iConnectMIDI4+ :)"

The Analog Lab NYC - Octave Plateau Voyetra 8

Published on Feb 16, 2013 TheAnalogLab·40 videos

"2 Voyetra 8s were recently in for repair and Jeff had flashbacks of his days at Octave Plateau in the 1980s, when the Voyetra was being developed and produced. Jeff was part of the production team for the Voyetra, along with Carmine Bonanno, Fred Romano, Bruce Frazier, and Frank Levi. Octave Plateau Electronics also created the Octave Cat, Kitten, and Cat Stick, and is also one of the few synthesizer companies from that era that is still in existence (Turtle Beach).

The Voyetra 8 was the first rackmount synthesizer, and one of the first to incorporate MIDI. It also sounds AMAZING. We have a special love for this synth here at the shop and wanted to share some of its history with the world.

"The filter sounds incredible and the whole thing sings with ghostly whispers to piercing screams and down to room filling bass like nothing but an old ms 20 can. The only thing that needs looking into is the ring mod circuit, which OSC 2 cuts out of when set to ring setting. Although, it is not a real ring modulator to begin with, and for those handy with a circuit board---- this is a recommended mod to by pass this issue altogether http://www.analog-synth.de/synths/ringmod/digital_ringmodulator.htm."

"The AtomoSynth Krakken is a super compact 100% analog synthesizer, carefully hand made with all discrete components as in the old vintage synthesizers which gives you a big and powerful sound with lots of character.
You can play it directly with the built in 2 octave keyboard and octave up and down shift buttons, it is perfect if you like a compact set up of small analog boxes!!!
Connect it by MIDI to a keyboard, sequencer or to your DAW and use it as an analog sound module and add that "punch" or "physicalness" of analog sound to your proyects.
Also you can control other analog gear with the built in 12 bit MIDI to CV converter.
Create weird electronic sounds, brilliant leads, acid bass lines or make noise and change the sound in real time by tweaking the knobs on stage or in studio.
Now built like a tank!!! in a rugged black metal case with all switchers and potentiometers fixed to the case.
Specifications

Keyboard: 25-key (tactile button keys).
Octave Shift up/down buttons (5 octave range).
VCO1 and VCO2: This synth features two analog square and saw waveform VCO (voltage controled oscillator)
Glide: effect control with a wide range that allows radical effects.
White noise generator.
LFO: One square and triangle waveform LFO (low frequency oscillator), that modulates the VCO for the vibrato effect creating old school arcade Atari-like sounds. Also it modulates the VCF (voltage controled filter) creating a tremolo effect. It has a led that shows the LFO rate.
VCF: One High pass and Low pass VCF (voltage controlled filter) with cut off and ressonance controls that can be modulated by the LFO and the VCO depth, It also features a dedicated envelope generator with decay and depth control.
EG: envelope generator with attack and release control. MIDI to CV converter.

The Krakken features an accurate 12bits MIDI to control voltage converter with a range of 5 octaves, it can be set to any midi channel from 1 to 16 so you can control any external analog synthesizer with the CV and Gate Outputs (1Volt/octave).
Also you can connect many Krakken synthesizers in chain with its midi thru output to a computer or midi sequencer and each one will play a different midi channel.
The instrument is is housed in a clear, laser cut, acrilic case that shows the analog circuitry.
It is powered by an external power supply 12V AC 500mA. (included)
Dimensions: 283mm(W), 272 mm(D), 82mm(H. incuded rubber feet and knobs)"

"More of the same as last time, me messing around with the a prototype of the new Division 6 eurorack version of George Mattson's SQ816 sequencer. This time I'm using it to run part of my big 5U modular. Nothing fancy, just getting used to things for now."
