Waldorf Rocket Review Part 1 - Features Rundown

Published on Mar 21, 2013 TheManWithTheSynth·1 video

Quick notes: Oscillator can be set to Saw or Pulse wave.   There are two knobs for them.  Wave on the left and Tune on the right.  In Saw mode, when Wave is below the 12 o'clock position you can add additional oscillators one at a time by turning the Wave knob.  You use the Tune knob to detune them.  At the 12 o'clock position the oscillators go into musical intervals.  For Saw you have unison with paraphonic polyphony mode when both Wave & Tune knobs are turned fully to the right. In Pulse mode the Wave knob adjusts the pulse width below 12 o'clock, after 12 applies LFO for pulse width modulation.  The Tune knob in Pulse mode adds an extra oscillator and musical intervals after the 12 position.  Analog Lowpass, Bandpass and Highpass filter modes with keyboard tracking and resonance. Boost circuit is raunchy.  LFO goes into low audio range.  The Arp has some interesting functionality, again above the 12 o'clock position of it's Depth/Range knob.   Envelop is instant on so no slow attacks.  Switch for quick attacks.  Two envelopes but they share the same Decay.  The Rocket also supports velocity and aftertouch.  For full specs and clarifications download the full manual here.

"In the first part of my Waldorf Rocket review I am doing a quick rundown of the features of the synthesizer. Mind that I am not trying to create beautiful sounds and the audio setup is rather amateurish - this video is just features presentation for those of you who are too lazy to download and read the manual ;) I will do a proper sound demo in about two days. While I know quite a bit about synthesizers this is my first youtube video, so I apologize for any technical shortcomings."

Waldorf Rocket review part 2 - sound demo

Published on Mar 29, 2013 TheManWithTheSynth·2 videos

"Following the feature rundown I am now giving you a sound demo of the Waldorf Rocket with some commentary on how I produced the sounds. The signal path is synthesizer going directly into the audio interface with the exception of lead sounds where I use Boss Space Echo (the modern emulated version) for delay."

Circuit Abbey "Impulse Drive" : the Hidden VCA

"In this video I demonstrate how, by using a negative envelope and bending the design of the Injector Select circuit, you get a VCA out of the Circuit Abbey 'Impulse Drive.' Also - when using it as a VCA with percussive elements, you can get some really weird gates and noise bursts."

Squidfanny - Circuit Bended KAWAI R-50 Drum MAchine (march 2013)

"Kawai R-50 Drum Machine, circa. late 1980's. Dripping with Lo-Fi charm & Character.
Circuit Bent & Re-fitted with the legendary Kawai 'Electronic' ROM as well as the infamous 'R-100' ROM.

Just a quick vid, to show off the sounds and features.

In my humble opinion, the Kawai's are the greatest digital drum machines ever made - the features are staggering, especially for such a small little piece of 80's technology. The sound sets are phenomenal, the sequencer is rock solid and it feels really nice to use.

On the downside, it's quite noisy and there's not much pattern memory. Doesn't work too well as a midi slave either, but works fine as a master. Also the manual has a couple of annoying errors, which will chew up loads of time trying to figure out.

Do you own one? Then hat's off to you sir... You've got a really nice piece of Lo-Fi 80's technology."

Dreamwalking - CL Tetrax Solo 1

"This is my first recording of the amazing Ciat Lonbarde Tetrax instrument (or any CL instrument for that matter - I'm usually having too much fun when I play them to record anything). You play it by pressing wooden barres. And it can be played with a variety of performance gestures (such as the violin-like "cad. It is easier to tune than the older version (Tetrazzi) and can be patched with banana cables, as I demonstrate here.

Enjoy!"

Lord, forgive me for my synths
