"Quick test with the new toy after soldering up first batch of multi-colour patch leads. What a joy to connect A to B with a real piece of wire; the VCO beating sounded like the monster was breathing; no menus or multi-function knobs to mask what's going on - welcome back to old-school.
Didn't expect Schaltwerk to work but connected the CV & Gate outputs and tweaked the CV trimpot and off it went.

The Launchpad app is a totally self-contained iPad app that hosts loops which can be triggered by an 8x8 grid of virtual 'launch pads'. The app can be flipped between different modes that give you access to faders and buttons, which can be used to alter volumes and trigger filter and stutter effects.

It contains the same audio engine and allows you to import patches you create in WaveMapper, which has a greater amount of parameters available for tweaking. This new synth not only offers greater portability on your iPhone, but comes with new assignable XY pads for easy parameter manipulation and it actually emphasises the real power of it's Mapping grid. It offers AudioBus compatibility for the input slot, as well as it's own recorder with audio copy and iTunes file sharing export options. There is both coreMIDI and virtual MIDI in & out, to allow MIDI control of other apps or hardware, as well as the app being controlled. You can also use the arpeggiator to create patterns within the app, with configurable Arp length and a choice of Arp modes. In the video below, I decided to show how much sound variation you can achieve simply using one patch, the arpeggiator, the XY pads and the Mapping grid. The results range from subtle changes to more extreme variations, and you'll see how easy it is to create interesting outcomes without having to master the complexities of synthesis. The audio track is another example of an evolving part, with the performance recorded directly into another app using AudioBus. I really like the the way this app draws your attention to the unique and powerful manipulation of the sound mapper, and the way it is well suited to use on the iPad as well as an iPhone or iPod. It is certainly a great addition to the WaveMapper family; a perfect companion app and a powerful app in it's own right, which definitely makes it ... A Killer App!

One Last EMS SYNTHI Update
See the third and hopefully last update in this post. One more reason to follow MATRIXSYNTH. When items like this go up, the community will usually catch it. On the flip side you need to be careful that warnings are legitimate and not an attempt to keep others from bidding. Note I do not want to become the eBay police though, so I have no plans to spam the site with every single potential eBay scam. The biggest tip I can give you is to NEVER buy outside of eBay's system regardless of what sort of deal the sellers offer.

Founding fathers of the New Romantics and pioneers of the 80s sound Visage, return with a new album "Hearts And Knives" May 2013. Visage began in 1978 when Steve Strange and Blitz Club partner-in-crime Rusty Egan joined forces with Midge Ure to create a futuristic, synthesizer-led group where style and fashion were matched by experimental but accessible music. The group was soon Magazine and Billy Currie. They recorded their first single Tar with Martin Rushent at his Genetic Studio in 1978 (shortly to become the birthplace of the Human League Dare album). Their breakthrough track "Fade To Grey" became a European hit and reached number 1 in 8 countries in 1980. As the public face of the band Steve Strange shot to stardom throughout Europe and beyond.
Steve Strange has been through his own share of highs and lows in the past 29 years. His emergence as a fashion and style icon of the 80s and beyond is one of the many highs. Steve had always believed that Visage had not yet reached its endpoint. Slowly the circumstances and pieces started falling into place to enable a new album to come to fruition. Firstly Steve reconnected with Steve Barnacle (a Visage band member from the 1984 Visage album "Beatboy") and began writing songs once more. This was augmented when ex Ultravox guitarist Robin Simon joined into the equation bringing not only a large slice of shared musical DNA (that "Visage sound") to the project but also his own distinctive style and ethereal musicianship. Lauren Duvall joined adding not only her sultry vocal ability but also a slice of the classic Visage glamour. Secondly the environment and interest in 80's fashion, style and music continues on unabated. The phone continues to ring for shows, television, news and exhibitions.
