Korg MS-20 Mini/Boss DR-55 through Roland Duo-Capture

via Connor 'Macleod' Eck on The MATRIXSYNTH Lounge

"Ok, got the Duo Capture working properly, so with that I put together a random demo track with the MS-20 Mini and DR-55. I know I am off tempo and the drum machine is quiet, but hopefully you guys will enjoy it."

Minimoog, Memorymoog, LinnDrum 2

"Another, more "hypnotic" and laidback live jam on Minimoog, Memorymoog and Linndrum. My silly camera decided to stop recording the video after 10 seconds, so I placed a photo of the gear. Listen to this one in low lights ;-)"

V-Synth GT Goodbye #2

Published on Sep 8, 2013 synthway·18 videos

"As a part of my goodbye, I'm sharing this new video. Just showing how amazing this thing can sound when combined with samples from another keyboards. I'm showing the same sound made with two types of oscillators... the first is using internal "analog waves", the second is made with two Little Phatty samples (one for each oscillator). To me it's clear that it sounds better...

I don't know if you guys enjoy this, but since there's not a lot of videos with the GT, I'm trying to share what I can.

On the next video (already made) I'm going to share some weird FX sounds made with sampling and Variphrase."

Yamaha FS1R Legendary FM Rack Mount Synthesizer SN QN01010

"The Yamaha FS1R is a rare bird. This is the successor to the old DX/TX FM synths. It uses 8 operators instead of 4 or 6 like those classics. Yet it can accept a DX7 patch via MIDI. It has Formant Shaping Synthesis to simulate vocal timbres. It sounds like nothing else, from huge evolving pads, to shimmering EPianos, fantastic organs, screaming leads and booming basses.

In 1998, after several years without producing a single FM synthesizer, Yamaha released a new FM powerhouse...the FS1R. These days, more people have discovered what this synth is capable of and it has seen a resurgence in popularity and has reached an almost cult-like status. It is rare to find one for sale these days. It was only produced for one year.

This little beast is far from your average FM synthesizer. Not only is it an eight-Operator variant, as opposed to the six- and four-Operator FM of the DX/TX lines, but it also features a new technology called Formant Shaping Synthesis. Formants are the spectral patterns making up the sounds of human speech. This allows for the creation of vocal like timbres but can also be applied in many different ways to create incredibly unique sounds that you won't find on any other synths.

DX7 aficionados will like the fact that the FS1R has almost complete compatibility with 6-Operator FM synths: you can send, via MIDI, a patch from a DX7, for example, and the FS1R will convert it to an identical-sounding patch in the new synth. A lot of the preset Voices actually come from the DX7's library. It's also possible to program sounds from DX7 sound charts, finding an algorithm that has an equivalent layout to the DX algorithm and turning off the unwanted Operators.

It truly sounds like nothing else out there. From huge evolving pads, to shimmering EPs, fantastic organs, screaming leads and booming basses.. this synth can sound industrial and cold one minute, and then warm and almost analogue the next. With some time dedicated to learning how to edit the patches, or create your own from scratch, there's really no sound that this synth isn't capable of making..."

Korg EX-8000 8 Voice Digital/Analog Hybrid Synthesizer SN 001392

"Korg EX-8000 Classic 8 voice digital/analog hybrid synth, stunning build quality inside and out and fat Analog VCFs and VCAs ! !

This is the 2U rack version of the famed and large ! DW-8000.

Dark, moody, and heavy are good ways to describe the sound. It has some beautiful crystal EP's, and can generate some truly ripping lead lines ( with the built-in digital delay ). Basically 16 DCO's, or single cycle waveforms, passed through a VCF and VCA. The Filter can self oscillate, and is one of the squelchiest around.

Two oscillators are used for each program, which results in a very fat sound. What's more, the programs can be set to Unison mode, which will fire all 16 oscillators slightly detuned, on each key-depression. In this mode the synth will be monophonic, but the effect is absolutely overwhelming!

The analog filter section is extremely powerful and smooth - probably one of the warmest sounding filters available on any synth. It can be driven into furious self-oscillation - great for those hardcore techno sounds!

The VCF is fully resonant, giving a gorgeous whistle at high settings and purring beautifully over low-pitched notes -- quite Moog-like, in fact.

You can create some warm strings and synth pads on the fly, and programming is a breeze. All of the parameters are on the front panel, so no real need for a manual but one is included.

Basses are probably one of the DW8000's strongest suits. The low end is generally thick and powerful and sits under a mix with confidence. Chunky mid-range sequence sounds are also particularly appealing, especially given a tweak of the data slider to modulate the filter as it plays. Lead patches are capable of both aggression and subtlety, as required. There are certain characteristically 'nasal' lead sounds that have never managed to be recreated on any other synth -- a kind of 'oboe on acid' for want of a better description.

In any instrument its the sound that counts. Korg’s EX-8000 has the technology to create the sound you’ve been looking for. Its called DWGS, or Digital Waveform Generator System. DWGS is based on real instrument sounds - recreated by additive harmonic synthesis - and stored in four 256Kbit ROM chips You have 16 waveforms to choose from, in each of two oscillator banks. Includes sawtooth, square and sine waves. At last you can gain the dynamic crispness of digital without sacrificing the warmth of analog. Mix and match waveforms. Detune to fatten the sound and build rich layered effects. Analog VCF and VCA parameters give you greater assurance of getting the sound you want. Built-in programmable digital delay, a worlds first, offers chorus, flanging, doubling, short and long delays of up to 512ms. All delay settings are programmable for storage with your 64 sound patches..."

"PPG Wave 2.3 Perfectly Working Condition. Version 8.3 ROMs are installed. Comes with hard case, cable, version 8.3 manual and version 6.0 ROMs. A very rare vintage synthesizer, especially in this condition. Beautiful and warm sound.

Professionally serviced a few years ago. VCFs were adjusted and the stability issue was fixed. There are scratches and nicks but overall in excellent condition. The keyboard doesn't have any sticky keys (This maybe a later version of keyboard)..."

MIDIBox MB6582 Build by Marmot Audio

via Marmot Audio where you'll find more pics & build details. Marmot Audio provides DIY build services for various synths and gear. Be sure to check out the rest of their site for more.

"After what can only be described as a 'difficult birth' I finally screwed together the case for the latest Marmot Audio build: a MIDIBox MB6582.

For anyone who's unaware of what the MB6582 is, it was conceived many years ago by Jason Williams (Wilba) when he unleashed on the world his 8 SID chip version of the MIDIBox SID synth. In short, it was one of the most incredible 'DIY' builds ever.

As an old C64 scene-ster and musician myself, the SID chip has always held a special place in my heart and when I first ever saw the MB6582 with it's uber-sleek control surface, 8 x 8 modulation matrix and 4 pairs of SID chips I honestly thought I'd died and gone to heaven..."
