"The r-51 is unique and never before available in any form. it uses two remote-cutoff pentodes, type 26a6. two cv inputs are available for controlling circuit distortion from less than 2% up to more than 40% (varies with individual tubes). two cv inputs also allow use of the r-51 as a conventional synthesizer vca, with gain variable from less than -75db to +5db (typical). both distortion and vca features can be used simultaneously. this allows true vacuum-tube asymmetrical soft clipping to be applied to any waveform. with suitable cv processing, the r-51 can be configured as a true "variable mu" limiter or expander. power requirement: +-12v dc, 150 ma. the metasonix r-series of vacuum-tube modules is intended for use in any "eurorack" standard modular synthesizer system. all r-series modules are 22hp (112mm) wide and fit in any doepfer©, analogue systems©, or other compatible cabinet. they are powered entirely from the cabinet's internal +-12v dc power supplies, using doepfer compatible 16-pin power connectors. their circuits protrude behind the panel less than 25mm (1 inch). all vacuum tubes are nos (new old stock) types from classic american and european manufacturers that are run very conservatively for long life, and are readily available from distributors. the tubes protrude from the panel for visibility and cooling, less than 38mm (1.5 inches), and should fit inside a doepfer a-100 suitcase cabinet lid or into a doepfer mini case. all audio inputs and outputs and cv inputs/outputs are 100% compatible with other synthesizer modules. plate voltage is provided by a tiny switching supply producing clean 48v regulated at low current, which is very safe and will not injure the user. potentiometers are top-quality alpha rk12l types, and 3.5mm phone jacks are special kobiconn vertical-mount types, much better quality than the cheap ones usually seen in euro modules. each r-module is fully protected against reverse supply voltage, overvoltage, undervoltage, or incorrect hookup to external equipment. as with all our products, the r series is totally handcrafted in northern california, usa."

Arpeggi8r - New Modulus 002 Audio Demo

"Drew Neumann (www.drewneumann.com/DN_Bio.php) took 002’s arpegiator out for a trip, and ended up producing this wonderful seven and a half minute demo! In Drew’s words, 'This was just messing around with the 002 in real time to a Sound Devices 702T, then reassembled in 4 tracks in Digital Performer. A light dusting of FX here and there, but it's JUST 002.' Enjoy.

"Demonstration / Tutorial Video's of the Rhodes Chroma / Arp Chroma Synthesizer. The Rhodes Chroma is a vintage polyphonic analog synthesizer completely designed by the Arp Synthesizer Company and manufactured by Rhodes between 1982 and 1983. There were approximately 3000 Chromas produced in total between 82 & 83, making it *now* one of the most valued synthesizers to those who are 'in the know.'

I have attempted to scratch the surface of this wonderful synthesizer in a *very* CASUAL 3 part video series totaling @ 5 hours. Please look for the other parts to this initial series, and be sure to watch for much more on the legendary Arp Chroma.

Nord Lead 1 Performance Video Demos by David Hobson

Published on Jun 13, 2014 David Hobson

YouTube channel moved. I'll update this post when the videos have been migrated. Until then see this post for one.

Note this is a playlist of all of David Hobson's videos starting with "Nord Lead 1 Performance - God Speed - David Hobson 6/04/2014", the latest Nord Lead 1 video. There appears to be 11 total Nord Lead 1 videos with some other synth videos mixed in. Skip through the player as you like.

The following is the video description for "Nord Lead 1 Performance - God Speed - David Hobson 6/04/2014"

"Hello, this song "God Speed" is a demonstration / performance of the type of sounds you can get out of the "Great" Clavia Nord Lead 1. Please "show more" for more info. I hope you have a good subwoofer. I have set this performance to a "video."

The Nord Lead 1 is a fantastic sounding synthesizer with great potential. All you need is a good sound that you know well, and familiarity with this synthesizer's parameters.

This "video" is called "God Speeds" instead of "God Speed" because I believe that God Speeds" to rescue His saints. This was an impromptu performance which I set to a type of video using a certain media player's "visualizer."

I utilized effects in my Digital Audio Workstation of choice, Reaper. The effects I used were of my own making with the exception of the Waves L1 Ultra Maximizer.

If you need polish to your recording look no further than the Waves L1 Ultra Maximizer, it is selling cheap I believe, maybe less now. It has been replaced by the L2, L3, L9...whatever...but the L1 was a standard in many important studios for some time.

If you already own a Nord Lead 1, then you know how good it sounds even without all of that effect saturation. It is different than the Nords that followed it. The man who designed the Nord 1 moved on to work for Rebirth in 1997, I believe it was...And for some reason Clavia did not use the same DSP design. I know this because I called Clavia when I worked for Sam Ash Music, and they told me all of this. I had purchased a Nord Lead when it first came out and noticed that the Nord Lead 2 (when it arrived) sounded different. Believe it or not.

I made a simple example of what the Nord is capable of, but with the appropriate use of modulation, velocity and creativity the Nord is capable of so much more. If you purchase one make sure to get one with the voice expansion...and buy a PCMCIA card.

I will upload more videos of the Nord Lead in action, perhaps scrolling through a few of my own presets.

Oh, and one more thing:
The "Unison" feature on the Nord...well, I believe I have figured out what it is doing to create a "wider" stereo field. If you record your Nord in stereo and set up a simple saw patch, just one oscillator, tuned as low as it will go, you will notice your level indicators rise left to right as each saw cycle repeats. that is my story and I am sticking to it."
