Knas Ekdahl Moisturizer + Roland SH-101 = Crusoe

Published on Dec 28, 2014 n3bsvid

This is a little demo of the Ekdahl Moisturizer which is a spring reverb unit with a built in multimode filter and LFO. The video starts off with a more technical exploration (showing the effect of most knobs individually) and then gets into more experimental territory. The filter on the SH-101 is wide open so all the filtering you hear is from the moisturizer.

Beyond The Rungler - An experimental Eurorack module based on the heart of the Benjolin

"During my search to find a cool generative (and simple) pattern generator I found the schematic of the Benjolin and here. I will not build a full Benjolin. But what is the heart of the Benjolin? After looking some videos and studies of the schematics, I would say:

The Rungler

It's a sort of CV pattern generator. It works a little bit like a 1 bit random sampler (With a Sample&Hold feature). Samples are taken from an audio source, e.g. the audio output of the voices of the Benjolin or from a noise source (this is what I will describe here) is "sampled" and synchronized by a clock source (or an other trigger).

A serial stream of bits is shifted into a shift register one step per clock cycle.

This serial bit stream is used to feed a parallel digital analog converter in 3 bit resolution. At the end of the circuit a control voltage comes out and can be feeded into synth voices. And there is a feedback loop to replay the samples. The incomming audio confuses the feedback and so new patterns are generated.

Simple."

Korg Volca Keys/Bass, MS-20 mini, Roland Aira TR-8, VT-3 (Machine Intelligence)

"'It was not an equation that spawned the first machine intelligence, but a framework that became aware unintentionally. No one expected that the internet would talk back.'

Some random experimentation using the new 7x7 drum pack add-on for the TR-8, as well as the Strymon BigSky(through a Kp3 pad) on the MS-20 mini. Keys is going through a korg quad pad, And the Bass through a TC electronics Arena reverb. The robot voice samples were made with a Roland AIRA VT-3. Maybe some Volca Sampler video next!
As always, thanks for stopping by and watching/listening!

Roland JX-8P Sounds

These are some of my original patches made for the Roland JX-8P synthesizer. Bass, dark string and synth pads, arpeggios and stabs.

There are some realtime patch edits in this demo without the use of the external programmer, so go ahead and give that EDIT slider a nice workout. Would have been nice if the edit slider had a pass-thru data function, that is why you will hear some edit jumps in the audio.

In addition to utilizing the Beatstep for sequence duties, there is gratuitous amounts of delay and reverb added to most sounds."

Roland JX-8P Demo #3 - Skywriter

Published on Jul 21, 2016 gstormelectro

"Audio and video by G-Storm Electro c.2016

This is the Roland JX-8P, possibly one of the most under-rated synthesizers. This time I have multi-tracked live takes with Big Sky and Timfactor effects-fueled production chock full of EQ, compression and a few dubious mastering techniques. The TR-8 drum machine is barely breaking a sweat, churning out a painfully simple beat. There are some factoids relating to the JX-8P along the way. What is this music? I call it a cheesy 80's dream pop rendition in 3/4 time with almost a two step feel. I know, I'm scratching my head too...I was very tempted to scrap this during recording. But it was too fun to see it through, too odd not to post, too catchy for me to easily dismiss."
