Pluto Flyby space ambient jam with Microbrute and Korg Volca Keys & Bass

Published on Jul 28, 2015 Helium Road

"Okay, I don't know if anyone's been wondering, but I've been away for a while busy with other stuff but I got my synth gear plugged back in finally. I've been keenly watching all the coverage of the New Horizons spacecraft and its flyby of Pluto the last few weeks, so it was on my mind when I say down to jam this out last night. Got to test out my new Polara reverb pedal, too.

I apologize if the sound and video aren't perfectly synced up; that's really the hardest thing about doing these things. If I re-do this piece I will try to make a real video.

In case you're wondering: Yes. This is what it looks like inside Helium Road's house all the time, colored lights, plasma sphere, and assorted mad scientist devices.

Equipment used:
Arturia Microbrute analog synth
Korg Volca Keys analog synth
Korg Volca Bass analog synth
EHX Clockworks timing unit
EHX Superego Synth Engine pedal
Arion Stereo Chorus pedal
TC Electronics Flashback stereo delay pedal
DigitechPolara stereo reverb pedal
Rolls 4-channel passive mixer
Korg Sound-on-Sound recorder"

Soft cover version of the book. There appears to have been two hard cover versions as well. One posted here with a solid black cover with silver print and one posted here with the same cover in this current listing.  See those two posts for details on the book and some pics of the inside including sections you can read on the KORG PS-3200, Orchestra-85, SCI Prophet-5, Prophet-10, Pro-One & Polyphonic Sequencer, Moog Rogue & Prodigy, Korg Trident, and Realistic Concertmate-MG1. It looks like the inside pics were used for the current listing which is fine imo as the book is listed in very good condition: "A great in-depth introduction to modular analog synthesizers, drum machines, vocoders, and the like, with an entire chapter devoted to vintage equipment. Apart from a little cover wear, the book is in very good condition. Softcover, 376 pages. Copyright 1982. This item ships WORLDWIDE."

"This rack-mounted MIDI synth module is not only capable of advanced FM (Frequency Modulation) and formant synthesis, but can also load classic patches from the famed Yamaha DX7 and other Yamaha 6-operator FM synths, while eliminating the noise to which some were prone."

Yamaha REFACE DX VS DX7

Published on Jul 22, 2015 muzykujkropkacom

Note the reface DX is a 4 Op FM synth like the Yamaha DX-100 and TX-817 while the DX7 is a more powerful 6 Op FM synth. The FS1R rack steps it up to 8 Op and adds Formant synthesis. If you are not familiar with operators, think of them as oscillators that can be arrange in different patterns of feedback to each other for frequency modulation, the FM in FM synthesis. The different patterns are referred to as algorithms in Yamaha speak. For a general history and explanation of FM start with this article on Wikipedia.

4ms Spectral Multiband Resonator Beat Sync Jam

Published on Jul 28, 2015 4mspedals

"Here we're using just an iPod and mp3 file to control the entire modular system. The drums sounds are all from modules being triggered by the Spectral, and the bassline is part of the mp3 file.

A cable sends audio directly to the SMR from the iPod, where it's split into bands. Triggers are derived from each individual audio frequency band, which are then sent to drum modules to create an entire set based around the structure of one audio file!

You can drastically and dynamically remix tracks this way. Using as much or as little of the original sound as desired, you can cut and filter precise sections of the sound, all the while using the CV equivalent of each band to control and beat sync your modular system!"
