"NOTE--THERE are lots of extreme volume fluctuations here. Sorry about that. But just be careful if you're listening on headphones.... SO...I had a request to demo what the Minilogue sounds like through the Microbrute Steiner-Parker filter. My take on it? It sounds bad ass. Like a Bad Ass Boss. I start simple in the video, as usual. Just one square wave from the Minilogue with no modulation at all, running into the audio input of the Microbrute. I tried to sweep the filter with differing amounts of resonance and Brute Factor so you can see how the Microbrute filter affects the Minilogue.

After a bit of noodling, I started a simple sequence from the Minilogue and used the Micro's filter and sequencer. Simple drum pattern playing on the TR8. By using the sequencer, you get the envelope to modulate as well. Ideally, you'd have a Keyboard going in to the Micro to control the envelope with note-on, note-off info, but you get a very interesting delay type effect when you use the sequencer, and change the rate relative to the Minilogue.

I just can't seem to lay off the Roland RE-301 Space Echo, so you get some tape delay in this video as well. I felt like I should be auditioning for a Flock of Seagulls cover band at one point (you'll notice).

But I hope you enjoy this little demo. The Micro's Steiner Parker filter is much more aggressive than the Minilogue's and is a really nice complement to it"

RF Nomad: Atomic Shadow Edition Available March 2016

"The wait is nearly over! The finalized aluminum RF Nomad Atomic Shadow Edition faceplates recently arrived from the sheetmetal vendor, and they look fantastic! Only a few more components remain to arrive before the first batch of 5U RF Nomad modules will begin to roll off the assembly line.

Each RF Nomad: Atomic Shadow Edition module will be hand-built and individually calibrated and tested by Evaton Technologies' founder, engineer, and chief bottle-washer: Russ Hoffman.

There is an email list signup sheet at www.evatontechnologies.com/5u-signup for folks interested in purchasing the RF Nomad Atomic Shadow Edition module when it becomes available.

Once modules are available to ship, I will send out another emailing to announce the finalized price and payment options.

The final module will include a length of coax cable with PL-259 connections on each end, and a hand crafted dipole antenna suitable for indoor installation. By using standard RF connectors, third-party outdoor antennas can also be used, for increased reception.

I'm looking forward to shipping a great product, and also to seeing what music all of you will create with it.

Acknowledgements

I'd like to thank Rod Mitchell (Atomic Shadow (www.atomicshadow.com)), Consulting Artist on this project, for all his input, inspiration, and encouragement. Rod's been twisting my arm to make some more modules in 'Man-Sized' 5U format, as he calls it. His efforts on that front may have succeeded; stay tuned!

Cheers,

Russ Hoffman

"Ambient soundscape. This recording uses a wide Stereo image, so listening on headphones might be a good idea.

Patch notes (not complete):
Mutable Instruments Braids in WTX4 mode goes through the 4ms SMR which is CV controlled by several envelopes (Intellijel Quadra and Make Noise Maths and Function) and a MusicThing Turing-Machine sequence . Both outs of the SMR go into Mutable Instruments Clouds in granular mode.

Evaton Technologies RF Nomad goes through a Make Noise Optomix which is plucked by a gate from Maths for some noisy percussion. Some additional percussion by Noise Engineering Basimilus Iteratis through a Doepfer A-124 Wasp Filter.

A rain sample played on one MusicThing Radio Music goes through the Pittsburgh Modular Filter and via Doepfer A-138d through the Electro-Harmonix POG2 and then through the Make Noise Erbe-Verb.

The second Radio Music provides some sampled chords in the second part of the recording.

Master clock and lots of triggers by Tiptop Circadian Rhythms; even more triggers by ALM Pamela’s Workout in Euclidean Mode. Several envelopes and LFOs by Make Noise Maths and Function, Intellijel Quadra, and Pittsburgh Bender. Also: Lots more utilities and VCAs, sequencing by Make Noise RenĂ©, Brains + Pressure Points, and Turing Machine. Some manual modulation via two Pressure Points and Circadian Rhythms.

Gear used:
- Eurorack modular
- Pedals: Electro-Harmonix Cathedral, Electro-Harmonix Deluxe Memory Boy, Electro-Harmonix POG2
