"10 Must-Experience Interactive Art Installations at Moogfest 2016

New commissions + site-specific collaborations from artists such as
Yuri Suzuki, Kyle McDonald, and Floating Point Collective
showcase synthesis of music, art, + technology

Durham, North Carolina (May 5, 2016) - The public will experience the synthesis of technology, art, and music like never before at Moogfest 2016, where an extraordinary array of interactive art installations and immersive sonic environments will be exhibited for free at venues across Durham.

For the four-day festival exploring the future of music, art, and technology, Moogfest will present more than a dozen art installations, many of them new commissions and site-specific collaborations between artists such as Yuri Suzuki, Kyle McDonald, Floating Point Collective, Antenes, and Rangit Bhatnagar, and engineers, musicians, and coders. For the full schedule of Moogfest art installations visit here.

The art experiences are one of the many highlights of Moogfest 2016, which celebrates the legacy of Bob Moog, the visionary engineer who pioneered the analog synthesizer and other technology tools used by artists like Stevie Wonder, David Bowie, and Kraftwerk. The four-day festival from May 19-22 will feature over 250 innovators in music, art, and technology -- from Gary Numan, GZA, Grimes and Laurie Anderson to virtual reality pioneer Jaron Lanier and transhumanist visionary Dr. Martine Rothblatt. For the first time, Moogfest will take place in Durham, North Carolina, a fast-growing capital of technology, culture and entrepreneurship.

"*note that due to an error in manufacturing, the mounting holes have had to be routed - the oblong holes are slightly longer than standard.

Conduit is a delay, filter, and 9 point harmonic oscillation module which creates three independent signal paths that can be inter-mixed how you like. It's also capable of jumping directly into the circuitry of Matter for processing. The root circuitry is based on the conduit desktop piece which is no longer in production.

Delay

At it's root Conduit is a delay with a warm, analog sound which is clean at tight times and tending toward something disgusting and noisy and slower times. External audio or internal oscillation can be processed by the delay. When multiple oscillation points are mixed, the delay feedback gets distorted and noisy. As a delay it serves best as a source of texture.

Filter

The Delay travels into a state-variable filter with fixed resonance. A clean signal passing by the delay will still be filtered. The filter has a vactrol-based cv in to control the cutoff. So this filter receiving voltage control is very wormy in nature. It's best to multiply and mix a signal going into Conduit if it's to be used for processing - giving you the filtered and unfiltered version.

Oscillation

The purpose of this module is not simply as a delay or a filter - these are just components to a greater whole. With Conduit, aspects of the giant delay IC processing are accessed as a series of sound sources - harmonic oscillations based on the clocking of the delay. Therefore, delay time is the same as master pitch for these oscillations (also represented by "time cv"). There are a total of 8 harmonic oscillations and one noise source. All 9 points representing audio level harmonic oscillations are represented by a 9x4 female header so that each of these points or multiple points can be used as a sound source. Using Resist alongside allows one to control the level of the oscillation.

KOMA Elektronik: Building the Komplex Sequencer, Firmware Update & Knowledge Base

"New Firmware Update and Knowledge Base for the Komplex Sequencer
A new workshop video shows how the KOME Elektronik Komplex Sequencer is build.

BERLIN, Germany – MAY 6st 2016

The crew here at KOMA Elektronik is happy to announce a new firmware update (Version 1.3 Flower Power) for our flagship product Komplex Sequencer. We’ve been listening closely to the feedback of our users and we’re always hard at work to make the workflow of the Komplex Sequencer even better by bringing more updates. In this latest firmware update for the Komplex Sequencer, we have addressed a couple of bugs and added two new useful features.

Here are the changes / new features at a glance:

Divisions can now be changed smoothly by the rotary knob and CV, staying in time with the clock without any jumps in between division settings.
Repeats saved on the previous power-down of the sequencer are not overwritten on first playback when powered up again.
Added a menu to display the firmware version.
Added a manual save function for all selections made in the Section Controls.
Fixed issue when ratcheting repeats did not fit into one step length. Now if the number of ratcheting repeats is still too long to fit within the period of one step, the repeats are automatically limited and overwritten for that step.

For more detailed information and a the firmware update download, please visit the KOMA Elektronik website.

New Knowledge Base

As development of new sequencer firmware updates is constantly on the move, we decided to add a new section to our website called “Komplex Sequencer Knowledge Base,” where we will present an updated overview of all features of the Komplex Sequencer, including example patches, more technical information and over time videos of specific functions. Please follow this link to visit the new Knowledge Base."
