The History of the Torino Synth Meeting

Francesco Mulassano just posted the history of the Torino Synth Meeting on his LinkedIn page. Click through for the full story.

"Back in 2011, i had this idea in mind: - I want to visit one of the synthesizer's event in Europe... But at that time I had no money, I had no time .. what solution?

If I can't go, i can make one in my town!

I discussed this with my friend Luca, with whom since 2008 I organize courses, workshops and concerts here in Torino and we started!"

CMS 2607 demo #5 - filter sweeps & highpass filter

Published on Oct 25, 2016 Phil Cirocco

"This is a demonstration video of the CMS 2607 synthesizer. The manual playing is poorly executed but it does show the filter response including the high-pass function."

All parts here.

"As you can see I the pics, this vintage, c 1980 Jen sx-1000 synthtone is in excellent condition. It has just been calibrated, and is in 100% perfect working order. Every key, function, knob and switch operates as designed, and they synth sounds...amazing. This is a super rare beasty, the one made famous by Joy Division.

This synthesizer makes all of the beeps, boops, squishy leads, booming basses, and wacky modulation noises you want. You can also achieve nice n fat pulse width mod tones, and BOTH white and pink noise. The synth is in excellent cosmetic condition, and looks so fresh with the wacky knobs and wood ends.

This is board will be terrific for the pro studio or player for who the real thing really matters, and no substitutes will do. Enjoy!"

"Vintage Oberheim DS-2A Digital Sampler S/N 168

Fully tested using a Kenton Pro Solo MkII to provide Gate and CV while driving a Dotcom Modular Synthesizer. The following Gate types were verified:
• S-Trig No Pull-up
• V-Trig Low (+5V)
• V-Trig High (+15V)

All other sequencer functions were tested and proved to be working as designed. A photo copy of the DS-2 user manual will be included. There are some minor interfacing differences between the DS-2 and DS-2A. However, they are operationally identical and the DS-2 manual provides a good description of operation.

Please note that the sequencer provides a Trigger output and does not sustain the notes. The amount of sustain is controlled by the sequenced synthesizer's envelope generators using the decay and release controls. This sequencer records Keyboard CV voltages and the time between Triggers. During playback the sequence rate can be modified with the clock rate control and the pitch can be modified with three selectable transpose controls. This is a hands on type musical tool and is a lot of fun to use."

NOS Oberheim Strummer w/ Original Box

"Latest software version (3.1)

The 'Strummer' listens to chords played on your MIDI keyboard and plays them back to your MIDI sound source (Synthesizer or Sampler) just as they would be played from a guitar. Not only will the chord voicings be correct, but the chords can actually be 'Strummed!' With the 'Strummer,' you can even change the speed and direction of your 'Strums' just by changing the way you play your MIDI keyboard. Also, 'Strummer' has the ability to distinguish the difference between chords and single notes, allowing you to send chords out on one MIDI channel (Distorted Guitar Sound for example) while your single notes are sent out on a different channel (i.e. Solo Sound). Your keyboard may have a great guitar sound, but can you play a great guitar part? Yes. The Oberheim Strummer will transform your keyboard playing into a stunning and convincing performance featuring realistic guitar articulation.

By looking at such factors as the range of the guitar, the number of notes being played, chord position, and the velocity of the performance, Strummer can transform the incoming MIDI data out into performance data emulating that of a real guitarist. Performance data may be delayed, echoed, harmonized, transposed and sent back out on multiple MIDI channels. In addition to control over strum direction and speed, the Strummer also features Chord Capture for real time single finger chords. Individual picking patterns and riffs may be assigned to a single key, for real time performance playback. You can even control the number of 'strings' being strummed via keyboard velocity.

Some additional features include: Adjustable Delay and Decay Rates. Velocity Switching. Chord Voicing Variations. Chord Capture (Adjustable Single Finger Chords). Transposition of MIDI Delays (Great for MIDI Harmonizing). Ability to synchronize to MIDI Timing Clocks (External Sync). MIDI Program Change."

Synthesis Technology E560 Deflector Shield Demo Eurorack Module

Published on Oct 25, 2016 gstormelectro

"Audio and Video by G-Storm Electro c.2016

Today I demonstrate the Synthesis Technology E560 Deflector Shield module. It is a digital effects module that has Frequency Shifting, Ring Modulation, and Phase Shifting. There's not as much talking in this one. I read the documentation and still don't fully understand everything that is going on. But it sounds absolutely wicked.

I show what effect all controls have on the sound. This demo uses a simple sawtooth from my Pittsburgh Modular Synthesizer Box as the sound input. Each knob has its own dedicated CV input, as demonstrated by passing a triangle LFO also from the Synth Box to each CV input as an example.

There are a tonnage of little sweet spots. Paul Schreiber has done an amazing job on this one. This module stereo outputs were sent to my Mackie mixer and panned hard left/right, and recorded direct to a Tascam DR-05 w/ no other effects or production so the E560 can shine in all its glory.
