Midsummer Meditation I

Published on Jul 22, 2018 Sacred Synthesis

"I composed this piece in three days, but it took at least a month of practicing before I could record it. The difficulty is that it requires a complete change of body position on the organ bench in the middle of the piece, just before the bass comes in. It's not hard to play, but it's a challenge while you're moving around!

The main patch comes from the Poly Evolver. I've named it "CP 70 Piano," and I hope it will be obvious why. It's wonderful for solo playing, but the upper third of the keyboard range has such digital aliasing that it's mostly unusable. The triangle-like and slow PWM patches both come from Prophet '08s.

The only change in equipment in this piece is that I've used a Prophet '08 Module for the bass, rather than the usual Evolver Desktop. The parameter-rich P'08 panel is so much easier to use than the Evolver's matrix, and this is especially important for a somewhat elaborate patch, such as the one I've used in this piece. The filter is set to slowly open and close by means of an LFO.

Instrumentation:
DSI Prophet '08 Keyboard (2)
DSI Prophet '08 Module (2)
DSI Poly Evolver Keyboard
DSI Poly Evolver Rack

Bass:
DSI Prophet '08 Module
Hammond XPK 200L Pedalboard

Effects:
Lexicon MX300 for reverb

Performed live and recorded directly to a Tascam CD-RW900 Mk II.

Leviathan :: Sputnik Modular Drone Patch

Published on Jul 22, 2018 Mike Thomas

"A drone patch heavily featuring the Sputnik Four-Tap Delay/Dual Crossfader module (with no crossfading :-)).

Patch Notes
==========

Main Sound
==========
Primary sound source is the Sputnik Dual Oscillator in AM & FM mode, receiving v/oct from Sputnik 5-Step Voltage Source. Timbre and Harmonics are being modulated by separate channels of the Sputnik Quad Function & Trigger Source. Modulation index is modulated by another channel of 5-Step Voltage Source.

Did I mention this is an all-sputnik patch? Well, it is, except for the reverb, which is a 2hp Verb.

The Final output of the DO is sent to Quad VCF/VCA in "Combo" (LPG) mode.

Delay Patching
---------------------
Th output of the QVV is sent to input channel #1 of the Sputnik Four-Tap Delay/Cross-fader and multed to a channel of the 6-channel MIxer. Each of the delay taps is sent to a different channel of the mixer, with stereo panning applied. Two of them are on the CV-pannable channels, and these are modulated by the West Coast Random Source Fluctuating Random Voltage channels.

The secondary output of the 1/2t tap is patched into the Valve Multiplier (VCA) as the input source, with the Waveshape output of one of the Sputnik single oscillators as the modulator, The resultant two-quadrant multiplier output is sent to another QVV channel in filter mode and back into input #2 of the Delay. The QVV filter is modulated by another channel of the QFTS.

The secondary output of the 1t tap is fed back into the #3 input of the Delay.

The square output of the single oscillator above is sent into another channel of the Valve Multiplier, with another channel of the 5SVS modulating it.

Bass
=====
Bass is the Waveshape output of a second Sputnik Oscillator with v/oct from the final channel of the 5SVS, fed through the WCRS Integrator (portamento/slew) circuit.

Production Notes
==============
L/R modular-level signals from the Sputnik 6-channel Stereo Mixer were multed and sent to a) 1U Headphone Jack, and 2) Intellijel 1U I/O module, which send signal to the case-mounted 1/4" jacks. Signal was routed on to the Sony PCMD50 digital recorder.

"I thought this might be of interest, a local talented musician made this album, each track made in a day 'using sounds from a different piece of cheap or unfashionable musical equipment'. Amiga, Casios including SK-1!, BBC Micro, a duck caller, simple waveform generator and many more. Stream and purchase here also: https://stef-animal.bandcamp.com"

Star Drive - Presets for Novation Peak

Published on Jul 22, 2018 AiynZahevSounds

https://www.aiynzahev-sounds.com/prod...

"Star Drive is a 64 preset bank for the Novation Peak. The Peak is a true hybrid synth, it's wavetables allow for crystal clear and otherworldly wavetable sounds, while the analog filters and distortion are the real deal for dirt and aggression.

The sounds make use of this huge variation on the Peak. The pads for example range from cold digital ice worlds to vintage ensemble pads, and JP8000 like supersaws.

Basses on tap range from focused and punchy PWM to walls of unison. Leads are melodic techno and trance inspired and there's odd sounds too making use of random per-step modulation.

Patches make use of Velocity, careful FX programming and Modwheel assignments.

Behringer Model D: filter and oscillators with Novation Circuit & Arturia Keystep

Published on Jul 22, 2018 Marcus Padrini

"The Behringer Model D just arrived here. It is the clone of the classic Minimoog! This video shows my second test with it, exploring a patch using 3 oscillators and working with different filter settings. The sequence is created by the Arturia Keystep and the drums sounds are from the Novation Circuit."

"Vintage Set of 10 Peavey Sample Library Disks for use with the DPM SP Sample Playback Synthesizer Made by Peavey Electronics Corporation and all disks are dated 1992.

The 10 disks were tested before listing for disk load to a Peavey DPM SP before listing and 7 of the 10 disks successfully loaded. The other 3 disks had disk read errors according to the display on the SP. All the disks show various levels of casing and label wear as well as label discoloration consistent with age and use. There is no original box or packaging included.

The 7 disks that successfully loaded into a DPM SP are:
Prosyynths 1
FX Drums
Drum Kits 1 (Disk 1 of 2)
Drum Kits 1 (Disk 2 of 2)
Jupiter Basses
Orch. Percussion
String Section
The 3 disks that would not load due to disk read errors are:
Heavy Metal GTR.
Microwaves
Female Chorus
These disks were in a lot of music studio equipment I recently acquired and had been in storage and unused for over 20 years. Offered and sold as-is and as shown, since these disks are magnetic media that are now over 20 years old."

"This unusual 6 module (including Hi-Hat) Simmons SDS-V electronic synth unit is in very good original condition – it is a rarity which has had no commercial use.
I am an electronics technician, The synth unit was checked & tested by me in April 2018 after being in storage for some time, all modules are fully operational
The synth unit case is showing signs of age but remains undamaged or marked, it is in an original un-tampered with state, it would benefit from a repaint as the original case is slightly discoloured/faded.
The Serial Number is 002958"

Dave Smith Instruments Evolver Synth Module SN 5197

"The Evolver’s unique tonality comes from the synergy of its two analog oscillators and two digital oscillators (which feature the waves from the legendary Prophet VS). Classic Curtis analog low-pass filters and real analog VCAs add warmth and girth to the analog section while the digital high-pass filter, tuned feedback, and digital distortion provide sizzle and grit. But what really sets the Evolver apart is the way in which the analog and digital sides of its personality mesh—in a true stereo signal path. Massive doesn’t even begin to describe the sound of the Evolver.

Imagine being able to move effortlessly from thick analog smoothness to crisp digital edge—or anywhere in between—and you begin to get the picture. The LFOs, step sequencer, and three separate delays can all be synced for complex, evolving, rhythmic, time-based effects in true stereo.

It’s a sound designer’s dream that can go from ultra creamy to ultra aggressive with the turn of a knob. If you need convincing, just listen to the demos.
