october by sinedrifter [featuring the Elektron Digitone... all music was done w only the Digitone]

Published on Nov 4, 2018 Sinedrifter

"Just a taste of what the Elektron Digitone can do. This is part of my live set, where all of my music is under 60 BPMs. Towards the end, we drop to 33 BPMs.

FM synthesis is powerful, and beautiful. These are all either pure sine waves, or modulated sine waves. For an 8-voice synth, as you can see, the Elektron Digitone delivers rich sounds and an enjoyable FM synthesis experience. No overdubbing was needed.

All footage was shot by Cam Arjent, and they did all editing as well. Music was by performed by Sinedrifter. The band appears momentarily. I'd like to thank Yira and Dottie for their priceless contributions.

A little bit of extra info: our DAW of choice is Cubase 4.5 running on an Apple Mac G5 Quad (who needs new computers?) All mastering was done using the Focusrite Liquid Mix (no sense in upgrading when you have something that works really well). All footage was shot on a Sony a7 mmii using a Zeiss 55mm f1.5 lens, wide open. Film grain was added in post. Shot on location in Vasquez Rocks State Park, California.

This film is not meant to entertain, but to immerse.

For promotional use only. All content is Copyright 2018 Cam Arjent."

PAIA Stereo Chord Egg (3790)

"This is a legendary PAIA Stereo Chord Egg from the 1970's. When powered with 12v (e.g. 8 x 1.5v batteries), it generates a rising and falling swell of harmonious chords and notes that will calm your alpha waves and bring peace to your soul. Or, at least, it will sound pretty cool.

I built this from the PAIA kit. It works. And, did I mention it's cool? But, it's time for it to find a new home.

Comes with the board and original instruction booklet (as shown). Book was slightly annotated and marked as I followed the build procedure.

These are extremely rare. And, ones that work are even more rare.

Note: If you purchase this, you should be comfortable putting together and connecting a power supply for this (e.g. connecting it to a battery holder with the correct polarity) and handling a circuit board (static can damage some of the chips). Or, at least, you should have a friend who is."

You can find a few in the archives including some demos here.

Buchla 25S Analogue Waveform Generator

"Essentially this module is a Buchla 259 which has been condensed into a 1-panel width module (some of the vintage circuit design has been condensed/modernized). This build does use original Excelitas vactrols where they are called for, all parts are to spec as per the Electricmusicstore BOM

Sounds a bit like a 259r, a bit like a 261e... Very flexible and a huge range of timbres. Selling only only to fund my purchase of a 200e series oscillator."

Vermona '14: Mono Study #1; "A Voice Rises"

Published on Nov 5, 2018 Kris Lennox

"Writing standalone solo works for a mono synth can be a challenge i.e. only one note, no harmony etc. This is the first from a set of mono works written within a two-octave range.

The idea is to write music anyone can try, irrespective of equipment. If someone owns he likes of an Alesis Q25/any form of 25-key MIDI controller, they could play this work on it. These works don't even have to be performed on synth - they could be performed on guitar, on violin etc. The positive RE a limited range is opening up potential instrumentation/suitability.

Delay should be very obvious. I spent a lot of time structuring this work; at certain points you'll hear what sounds like a human voice rising from the synth. It is the combined effect of tone, delay, and dynamic accent - more so the delay/accent.

1:40 is the first appearance of the human-like voice: the music is running through 6-note semiquaver phrases, which displaces the patterning of the delay against the grouping - which gives rise to the vocal-like effect.

However, the most prominent occurrence is at c. 2:25 - at this point the semiquaver groupings change to 5-note phrases, again displacing the delay pedal/phrase relationship. I'm also slightly accenting the note I want to rise.

Keeping the timing steady to achieve this is very difficult, as the effect only happens when the rhythmic synchronisation is locked in.

Difficult to achieve, but worth the effort!

Best
Kris"
