Gristling Throb - Solo Novation Summit going through its Bi-Timbral Paces - Multi patch -CALC- Jam

Published on Jul 29, 2019 -CALC-

"I was lucky enough to get a handful of my multi patches alongside the other amazing presets for the Novation Summit and this came up while jamming on one of them.

I called this patch "Gristling Throb" for no reason other than I found the name funny and this kind of throbs in a gristling way (and I dont even know what that means). You know.... like you do when naming presets.

Part A is a strange and quite wild self generative patch with heavy use of FMing Osc 3 (set to a wavetable) into Osc 1 and the filter.

Part B is where the music is happening and it was simply a few chords strung together that I liked the sound of.
This is all played all live and it was one of those "in the moment" kind of things half way through an extended jam. But luckily the camera was rolling.

A lot of soundscaping is done with the Mod wheel and the Animate switches on Part B.
This is Summit only, once again the rest of the gear is sitting quite dormant, this was the part of the jam when no clock was running and free play was the order of the day."

"Soundmit is the international trade fair specialized in electronic musical instruments and new audio technologies that takes place annually in Turin.

The event, with a history of eight ever-growing editions, hosted exhibitors from 11 countries in 2018, welcoming over 800 visitors and 170 operators in the field in the two days of the event.

It has obtained the patronage of the Italian Trade Agency (www.ice.it), the Polytechnic of Turin, the Polytechnic of Milan, the University of Rome Tor Vergata, the DAMS of the University of Turin and ARDUINO.

In addition to the exhibition part, the programme includes the inclusion of workshops and training sessions in collaboration with major international schools and companies in the sector.

The programme is enriched with talks and panels with the sponsoring Universities and international guests of the sector.

Soundmit is also a chance for visitors to meet sector companies and apply for job opportunities. Engineers, software developers and graphic designers are currently among the most requested profiles in the music sector and the presence of universities and performers such as Arduino exponentially increases the possibilities of developments in this direction. Soundmit has also the support of 17 international media industry partners who will cover the event with articles, interviews and reports.

A complete report of the last two editions can be seen at the following addresses

Soundmit is among the founders, together with the SynthFest France, of E.M.E.A. - Electronic Music Events Associations (www.emea.club), a European consortium created to support events similar to the Soundmit, to provide a quality brand to participating companies and the public, as well as to coordinate similar events and thus avoid overlapping and guarantee always the highest quality standards.

Tangerine Dream - Love On A Real Train (State Azure Cover)

Published on Oct 30, 2016 State Azure

"Live performance/cover of one of my favourite Tangerine Dream tracks. Utilising a little help from a couple of Elektron boxes :)

Analog Four is doing three sequencer parts plus a bass, while the RYTM is doing almost all the drums. Other layers, pads/atmospheric stuff are sequenced in the DAW (Studio One Pro 3) with levels controlled by the faders on the Akai MPK261 midi keyboard. Parts I'm playing are soft-synths; Falcon/Zebra2 (soft bells), Diva (lead synth part), Dune 2 (gritty pad/lead) via multi-instrument keyboard split.

Novation Summit Synthesizer

"Bigger and badder than the Novation Peak, the Summit is a 16-voice, 2-part multi-timbral monster! Reach new heights with 3 oscillators and 2 analog filters."

OB-6 Low Frequency Expander

Published on Jul 29, 2019 Joseph McGinty

"Just received the Low Frequency Expander for the OB-6 (and Prophet 6) and doing some experimentation. Here, LFO 1 controls filter frequency, LFO 2 controls resonance and LFO 3 controls distortion amount. The envelope adds a subtle scoop in pitch to Osc 2. This module adds an incredible amount of flexibility to the OB-6. Thanks, Steve Hunt!"
