How I sample synths into Octatrack ... without unplugging anything!

"This shows how I've set up my music studio to send audio seamlessly to the Octatrack thanks to the RME Fireface UFX. I can send audio from an external synth or several and/or also audio from my computer be it from a DAW or even from a browser!

I have the Fireface UFX connected to my computer via a USB C to USB B cable in order to avoid having to rely on a USB C hub for audio connectivity. The Octatrack gets its audio from the RME via a pair of balanced cables (though the Octatrack inputs are unbalanced) and there's still a second pair of inputs I could use if I wanted to separate my routing a bit more. However for now I'm happy with just using one input pair on the Octatrack since I mainly use it for music production as opposed to as a live electronic performance hub."

"EMU XL-7 Command Station which has been upgraded to include the Techno Synth ROM. The Techno Synth ROM is EMU’s Techno Synth rack mount module on an expansion card. So this is unit is effectively two synths.

The XL-7 sounds amazing - full of hundreds of individual sounds covering almost all genres, plus hundreds of preset songs and patterns. Out of the box, you’re ready to go. Just start a song and drop the 16 parts in and out, all perfectly synchronised. Don’t like a sound? No problem - every sounds, sequence and pitch in every song can be changed either on the fly with all the quick access knobs, or go menu diving to alter the sound.

This synth is as deep as you want it to be. All the usual controls are on the panel, but for deeper sound design and programming, you can dive in and get lost for hours."
