Solo1 - 5 Solos for Simple Slopes by Doug Lynner

video upload by Doug Lynner

"5 Solos for Simple Slopes is available at https://douglynner.bandcamp.com/album...

5 Solos for Simple Slopes was composed and performed with severe module compliment limitations to make the point that creativity and musicality can flourish on a small system and indeed can be enhanced by the experience, especially if you have a large system that you have established a workflow for.

For me, the 'Small Modular Aesthetic,' the term I use for this part of my work, is a healthy change-up that I find refreshing and immediate. To use only a single simple patch for multiple pieces extends this even further by necessitating a deeper exploration to find multiple unique voices from it."

Roland S-50 from 1986 | Amazing sampler!

video upload by Espen Kraft

"The Roland S-50 sampler from 1986. A little Fairlight system on its own. RGB monitor output, the DT-100 digitizer tablet, individual outputs and 4-part MIDI multi-timbral and Director-S sequencer.

It's still one great sounding sampler. I always preferred how the Roland S-samplers sounded, over any other sampler brand. I still do.

Today you sample one sound, and stretch it out through the entire keyboard, and reap the sonic benefits. That's how I use my samplers in 2022.

The DT-100 digitizer can only work with the S-550 and 330 if you hook it up through the RC-100 remote controller. And no, the S-50 does not work with a mouse as the two modules.

The S-50, S-550 and S-330, along with the S-10 are the pinnacle of 12-bit 80s sampling in terms of sound in my opinion.

* I say in the video that in addition to the RGB out you have a composite out as well. It's not a composite, it's a MONOCHROME output for a b/w monitor, tv etc."

"The RS-202 is a fully polyphonic analog string synthesizer released by Roland in 1976. The keyboard is permanently split into two separate sections, the lower 2 octaves and the upper 3 octaves, and each section has it's own set of identical controls. These include three white On/Off buttons for each of the three sound presets. This means you can assign any sound to each section, in any combination. Features sound presets Strings I, Strings II and Brass, and two Ensemble (Chorus/Vibrato) modes. Ground lift mod removed - hole patched up. Brass level fader scratchy. Includes lid & music stand."

"Suzuki TO-37R analogue keyboard. Very rare (especially in this condition) vintage polyphonic keyboard from the early seventies. The keyboard section has strings flute and oboe available separately or in any combination and vibrato can be added. Additionally there is an analogue drum machine which offers the typical rhythms of its era (these can be selected simultaneously for hybrid patterns). A mix control allows you to adjust the relative volume between the keyboard and the rhythm and there is a three position octave switch. The keyboard also has a built-in speaker and is mains powered. This example is in perfect working order"

"There are some changes that have been made to be able to use the synth as a modular synth, and to make this change the memory module has been disconnected, which can easily be reattached (of course, losing the changes made)."
