Ultrawave vs B3K vs LT Metal on DB-01 synth (no talking)

video upload by Richard DeHove

"A comparison of three drivey-distortiony pedals on a single pattern from the DB-01: the Source Audio Ultrawave; the Blackstar LT Metal; and the Darkglass B3K.
The synth pattern includes a few low pitch-mod thumps and it's interesting to note the changes in bass. I tried to keep the pedal sounds similar to get a good idea of the particular 'flavor' of the drives.
Of course the Ultrawave is capable of all sorts of extra goodness (full demo soon) but I thought it at least needed a bit of a stereo field considering full stereo is one of its main features. One slightly odd thing about the Ultrawave is that it won't work properly when placed after either of the other drives which is why I replug halfway through.
Happily, all three pedals take line level extremely well.

5:50 Darkglass B3K

"This Chroma Polaris is 100% functional and in A- cosmetic condition.

It has been professionally tested and serviced, and quite a beautiful-sounding analog instrument, unlike anything made today. Also, it is MIDI ready for studio/DAW integration and plays nicely with modern setups despite its status as a modern classic.

The Chroma Polaris was the 2nd synthesizer made by CBS/Fender/Rhodes after they took over ARP, following their classic Rhodes Chroma. It has a very ARP-like sound.

It has some interesting tricks up its sleeve: like 2 envelopes, including a 5 stage ADSDR filter envelope, aftertouch support (via external controller), and true multitimbral capability, with sounds that can be layered up to 6 voices. It also has a simple real-time sequencer and 132 memory patches."

Elektron Sidstation SN F10100822-81

"Now the technical stuff: My Sidstation used to work perfectly. When I dug it out recently, all the lights lit up but there were black boxes across the screen and it didn’t boot up. Digging on the Web, I identified what the problem could be and replaced the NVRAM chip, which is the battery. (I can supply the receipt and even the old chip if you want) Now, when I turn it on, and leave it on for a few minutes, it will go to the boot screen but still not as fast as it should. It can load a patch bank and play sounds. And yes, like all Sidstations, it's noisy!"
