Yamaha Reface CS - classic synth sounds reimagined

video upload by Alfonse

"The Reface CS (2015) is an analogue modelling synth in a small package, with mini keys, 5 different synth oscillator models, and a range of useful effects. All sounds heard in the track come from the CS, with the FM oscillator used for drum sounds, the 'multi-saw' model providing big chords, and the 'pulse' model laying down the bass line.

#NAMM 2024: PWM Malevolent and Mantis

video upload by CatSynth TV

"Paul Whittington of PWM walks us through the wild sounds of the PWM Malevolent, a fully analog semi-modular synthesizer with a screaming filter, and the new Mantis, a hybrid analog duophonic synthesizer with digital oscillators and fully analog signal path downstream that takes inspiration from the legendary WASP synthesizer.

To find out more about both instruments, please visit https://www.1pwm.com/"

#NAMM 2024: Audio Modeling SWAM (physical modeling instruments)

video upload by CatSynth TV

"We take a look at Audio Modeling's realistic and expressive virtual instruments that use their SWAM physical modeling engine. Among the instruments are various strings (violins, cellos, etc.), wind instruments, and brass. Each comes with many different sub-models and degrees of freedom for tuning the exact quality of the instrument in any given setting or moment.

IDUM Firmware Update 3 - Split Mode, Improved Looper, and Much More!

video upload by Mystic Circuits

"This video covers the basics of the newest IDUM firmware as well as some news about IDUM restocks, the new hardware redesigns etc. If you have either a red or pink LED stay on while your IDUM boots up you have an old firmware version, you should definitely upgrade to the latest version!

Instructions on how to do the actual update can be found here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xqDko...

If you want to grab the files for the most recent IDUM firmware go here:

https://github.com/mysticcircuits/IDU...

This firmware implements a number of bug fixes and stability improvements but there are two new features that are the most noteworthy:

Split Mode - this option allows for the decision on whether to activate a modification to be done separately per channel. This means that rather than having a ratchet modification perform a ratcheting effect to all of the channels at once, each channel makes it's own decision about whether or not it will engage a ratchet whenever a clock is received. A nice bonus of doing things like this is that we can finally have different modes active on each channel. The active mode is sampled whenever a clock is received so if the mode is either being changed quickly or modulated and the length slider is above 1 then different channels will activate whatever mode is currently selected when the decision to start a modification is made.

Looper Improvements - the looper has gone through a number of changes but the most impactful one is that the trigger inputs are now recorded four times per clock instead of only once. This not only means that the looper can now differentiate triggers and gates but also it can record multiple lengths of triggers and also capture ratchets that are twice as fast as the clock fairly accurately. Captured ratchets will also be multiplied or divided along with the speed of the loop being changed by altering the param knob. On top of this, the looper now remembers the mode that was active before the looper was engaged so that the looper always starts in time with the input pattern. Finally the modification code has been changed so that the captured modifications now more consistently reflect their behavior during the loop recording and also can capture different parameters per channel when split mode is active.

Finally check out the "super secret options" page that has been added to make the secret options easier to find. It's full of different bits that can be easily modified to change the behavior of your IDUM.

IDUMs will be back in stock in the next few weeks!"

Peter Zinovieff's birthday and the EMEAPP EMS collection

video upload by EMEAPP

"Happy birthday to synthesizer pioneer PETER ZINOVIEFF. Here's a quick look at some of his innovations within our EMS here at the Electronic Music Education and Preservation Project (EMEAPP). This includes the VCS3 (The Putney), the Synthi AKS, the Synthetical Engine, and our Synthi 100 system, including the Compu-Synthi and the Vocoder 5000. Please follow us, there's lots of good stuff on the way!"

Analogue Solutions Maximus Dawless Multi-Part Performance Synthesizer

video upload by Analogue Solutions

"The Analogue Solutions Maximus synthesizer is more than a standard polyphonic synthesizer, it's also an analogue workstation capable of full performance pieces, lush soundtracks, heavy-hitting percussion, and just about any other analogue sound you can imagine.

Here, the Maximus is shown with its 8 sequencers firing different sounds, textures, and percussion. Each part is brought in separately using the stereo mixer.

Live play is also included, using 2 of the 8 voices of this synthesizer."

#NAMM 2024: Stylophone CPM DS 2 Drone Synthesizer

video upload by CatSynth TV

"A look at the CPM DS-2, the new drone synthesizer from Stylophone. It is an analog synthesizer with two oscillators and an LFO. It has no envelopes or triggers; it is intended to be played continuously, i.e., as a drone instrument."

NAMM 2024 - Bitwig GmbH - Bitwig Studio Updates

video upload by sonicstate

"Bitwig Studio has unveiled its latest update, Bitwig Studio 5.1, at NAMM 2024. The update focuses on sound design tools and introduces 10 new characters to enhance users' creative processes. Fredrik introduced one of the key highlights: the modular sound design environment, Grid, which now includes three new character filters—Fizz, Rasp, and Ripple. These filters have undergone extensive development and offer a wide range of sonic possibilities. Additionally, Bitwig Studio 5.1 introduces the Byte oscillator, a digital dual oscillator with various sync and XFM options.

The update also includes six new wave shapers and two new audio effects devices: Filter Plus and Sweep. Filter Plus is a simplified version of Grid, providing easy access to filters and wave shapers in an audio effects environment. Sweep, on the other hand, offers more routing and modulation possibilities with its two filter slots and wave shaper. Bitwig Studio 5.1 also brings improvements to audio editing, such as audio quantizing, making it easier to align audio clips to the grid. GUI updates have been implemented, particularly in the mixer mode, allowing tracks to be displayed in a more customizable manner.

NAMM 2024 - FL Studio - Kepler

video upload by sonicstate

"At NAMM 2024, Sonic State had the opportunity to interview Kevin from FL Studio about the new Kepler synthesizer. Inspired by the Juno-6, Kepler offers a range of features including the famous arpeggio section, LFO, DCOs with sub-oscillator and sub-noise, filters with high-pass and VCF, VCA, envelope, and chorus. One notable highlight is the vintage chorus, which has been so well-replicated that it has become a standalone plugin. Users have control over different modes, time delays, feedback, high-pass position, start phase, left-right phase relationship, modulation type, tempo syncing, noise, and noise gate. Kepler is included in the producer edition of FL Studio and is also available for download as a demo."
