Korg MS-50 Autoplay #1: part 4/5 | sequential patch #korgms50

video upload by Dr. Kunz

"Fourth part of a sequential patch with VCO and VCF cross-modulation, combined modulation voltages, rhythmic pulses and two independent audio outputs. Different level settings in the Adding Amplifier can produce a variety of patterns from the combination of two envelope curves and a pulse, displayed on the voltmeter. The remaining free modules can be integrated to further expand the patch complexity.

This video is a fraction of an hour long experiment around this patch, I've shortened and divided it in five parts to make it more accessible. The wiring is presented at the beginning of each video.

Thanks to @IppeiTambata for his inspirational looping machines.

Effects: Yamaha SPX-90II stereo echo, Korg SDD-3000 modulated delay, some level and eq adjusting on the Mackie 1402.

Recorded with Tascam DR-60 MKII

Feels like forever | Ensoniq Mirage downtempo track

video upload by MIDERA

"I guess I didn't really realize what day it was, but when speaking to my brother he reminded me. It was 3 months ago that my mom passed away. It's kind of fitting that the piano sound that is in this track sounds just like our old out of tune piano at my old house (the piano is now gone, I don't know what happened to it). Every Sunday I still get this "oh, I gotta get ready - Mom's going to call me." moment, before I realize that I never will get those Sunday night calls again. I think for the rest of my life I'll at least think to some degree that she's going to call me. Of course, I've certainly realized just how quick time goes by. It doesn't feel like more than a week ago, and yet, it feels like forever ago. Our brains must have the hardest time processing time. At least mine does.

Well, as you've guessed - I re-bought my old Ensoniq Mirage. And wow it took me hours to remember how to use the thing (still can't quite figure out how to select upper and lower patches). I compared the Mirage to the EPS as well - and geez, it's almost no comparison. The Mirage sounds like way better than the EPS, but the EPS is way easier to use. I kinda think if one thing had to go it would be the EPS. I like what it can do, and the ease with which it can do it, but if the end result isn't entirely inspiring, I'd be reaching for the Mirage 90% of the time. But... maybe the EPS has some tricks up its sleeves. What I find the Mirage does is somehow manage to sound broken, out of tune, and at the same time have this nice hi-fi sound. The EPS sounds muffled in comparison (I actually re-wrote this track sampling into the EPS the same way, but decided not to include it in this track... maybe that was a mistake).

1010music nanobox | battery case + USB MIDI

video upload by 1010music

"Did we forget to mention that the new nanobox | battery case allows pass-through MIDI?

The nanobox battery case protects and powers your nanobox for use while traveling. The hard-shell case with magnetic closure keeps your nanobox safe in your backpack. The embedded battery pack ensures you can use the nanobox along the way and when you get there. Plug in headphones and you can make music along the way.

You Can Take it With You

Nestle any of the four nanoboxes into the injection molded case, connect the built-in battery, and your nanobox is ready to travel with you. When you get to your destination, remove the top of the case and you can connect speakers, MIDI devices and audio inputs through the cut out in the back while powering the nanobox from the battery.

Use the USB C cable that came with your nanobox to charge the battery case so you are ready to take your nanobox on your next musical journey, even if it’s just to the couch."

Elektron Machinedrum MkII sound design exploration#elektron #dawless #dnb

video upload by HANJŌ

"The sound of a drumset played in different environments can vary significantly due to acoustics and the surrounding space. After my visit to Berlin I got inspired by an artist presentation of this kind of studies in the form of audiovisual installations and I decided to use it as a start point for a new release.

Drumset Played Floating in the Air:

Characteristics: When a drumset is played in a vast open space, such as floating in the air with no physical boundaries nearby, the sound tends to be more expansive and diffuse.

Reverberation: The lack of physical surfaces to reflect sound waves means that there is minimal reverberation and echo. As a result, each drum hit may sound isolated and clear without blending into a larger ambient sound.

Transience: The attack and decay of each drum hit are distinct and easily discernible, as there are no surfaces for the sound to bounce off and create overlapping reverberations.

Spatial Perception: The spatial perception of the drumset's sound is more spread out, giving a sense of the individual drum and cymbal sounds existing in their own sonic space without much interference.

Drumset Inside a Cave:

Characteristics: When a drumset is played inside a cave or any enclosed space with reflective surfaces, the sound takes on a different character.

Reverberation: The cave's surfaces, such as walls and ceilings, reflect sound waves, leading to a longer decay time and pronounced reverberation. This can create a rich, immersive sound environment.

Resonance: Certain frequencies may resonate more strongly within the cave, depending on its size and shape, leading to enhanced tonal characteristics for specific drum elements.

Depth and Texture: The reverberant nature of the cave adds depth and texture to the drumset's sound, blending individual hits into a cohesive wash of sound that can be quite dramatic and atmospheric.

Spatial Perception: The spatial perception of the drumset's sound is more compact yet enveloping, with the reverberations filling the space around the listener and creating a sense of being surrounded by the sound.

Overall, these descriptions highlight how the environment can significantly influence the perceived sound of a drumset, with factors such as reverberation, resonance, and spatial perception playing key roles in shaping the sonic experience."

Solar 42 anti-GAS therapy 💸

video upload by

"I created this song, that I named 'Drune', as a form of anti-GAS therapy with the respect to the Solar 42, where I set out to create an ambient piece with some form of drone bass together with a layer that used a 5-step sequence (the same number of steps that the Solar 42 sequencer has). I'm pleasantly surprised with how far I could get with the gear I already own.

I play the Expressive E Osmose live (using the factory patch called 'Stellaris') and send it to the Analog Four mkII where I add some reverb. The white noise and bass comes from a single, monophonic patch on the Analog Four mkII, where I play sustained drone notes utilizing all four voices. Everything then gets sent to the Syntakt where the additional elements are added, using a single pattern, before heading to the Analog Heat +FX for mastering. What you hear is recorded directly from the latter."
