Sea creatures - Yamaha Reface CS

Published on Sep 4, 2016 DouglasHurdGymnast

"Sea creatures

Unfortunately, I had to change some of the footage so the first piece isn't matched up with what was originally intended but never mind.

I - Crabs

II - Waltz

III - No light

Switched on Roland System 1 & Moog Voyager

Published on Aug 27, 2016 DouglasHurdGymnast

"Overture - original baroque style synth composition

Not exactly what I had in mind for this youtube channel given that it took a long day's hard work and was anything but spontaneous. It's been years since I've had to bounce down to free up tracks; I think I might stick to the DAW next time I try something this complicated!

(apologies for the usual shakey video - it's sometimes a trick trying to play and keep still whilst holding a smartphone in the other hand)

Switched on Microbrute

Published on Jul 17, 2016 DouglasHurdGymnast

"Spent this morning recording four bagatelles of pure Microbrute straight to a DP008-EX recorder out in the garden (no midi or fx other than the stock verb....limitations and all that jazz). I love this little synth!

1 - Two Part Invention
Ended up writing it down first for convenience. It's baroque style but an original piece so no lawsuits please :)

2 - CCTV
The Microbrute rocks this sort of stuff

3 - Drivebrute
Honestly, I'd love to just write old game music forever

4 - Goodbye
Or "ciao meow" as I lamely say to my cat. I think the MB copes quite well with mellower material, which I hadn't really appreciated until now.

Gear: Microbrute, DP008-EX and lawnmower extension lead"

Return to LoFi - Studiologic Sledge v2 & Juno 60

Published on Feb 12, 2016 DouglasHurdGymnast

"Gotta love 80s graphics :) Its funny how what was once cutting edge and almost icy cold to view now appears warm and quite beautiful. The march of time has a curious way of blurring our vision of the past as it treads ever on into the future.

Happy Party - Prophet 08 & Moog Voyager Old School

Published on Jan 12, 2014 DouglasHurdGymnast·5 videos

"Pro 08, Voyager OS, Juno 60, Omnisphere, Hollowsun Drumbox

Thought I'd give the Prophet the first shout as it contributed to about 80% of the track, including the bass. Super flexible little synth."

The Doctor and The Master - Moog Voyager Old School

Published on Jul 31, 2013 DouglasHurdGymnast·3 videos

"Moog Voyager OS, Prophet 08, Juno 60, Yamaha EX5, Hollowsun Drumbox

It could be me but doesn't the Tardis look like some sort of old Con Brio synth with a couple of MC-500s on the dashboard and a massive vintage KerPlunk set in the middle?

Anyway.....He's coming to get you!! - HIDE UNDER YOUR BED (unless you're like my better half and I and have a divan, in which case you're done for).

Imagine if Tom Baker had gone head-to-head with ultimate Master Roger Delgado. That would have made for a cracking watch. Obviously, I liked Anthony Ainley but he always seemed like a very hammy Zod with a bit of Kenny Everett thrown in for good measure."

General Zod - Juno 60 and Moog Voyager Old School

Published on May 27, 2013 DouglasHurdGymnast·2 videos

"Gear: Juno 60, Moog Voyager Old School, Omnisphere, a few pedals and Hollow Sun Drumbox. Quick improv for fun.

Think the Moog needs calibrating. Bloody analogs eh!

Factoid: An Englishman must always finish his tea before employing an LFO."

R5D4 - Yamaha EX5 Voyager OS Prophet 08 + 5 Juno 60

Published on Jul 26, 2013 DouglasHurdGymnast·2 videos

"Weather here in England has been unusually beautiful this past few weeks, encouraging social interaction outdoors and careful attention to the bounteous quality of wildlife that saturates this green and pleasant land. So I've done what I imagine any other synth maniac would do: gone indoors, sat in the dark, and played some music.

Yamaha EX5, Voyager OS, Prophet 08, (Prophet 5, Juno 60 - played on Evolution 49 keyboard) Hollowsun Drumbox and some pedals"
