"I had this Studiologic Sledge at home for a few days en route to the school, so I took a couple of hours to make a few patches. Of course much more could be done with this nice synth, but given the little time I had, I decided to test it on a bunch of classic sounds.

I found that the Sledge has a rather aggressive basic sound, with a definite personality. A more extended modulation matrix would have been welcome, but I guess that the goal here was to achieve that one-knob-per-function feel.

All sounds programmed from scratch, with no external effects or processing except for a little bit of eq."

The Numa X range comes in three versions: the 73 note, 88, and the flagship GT, with an easy to use interface and based on three concepts: colour, where the interface assumes the color of the selected zone, long press, where a musician can modify sound parameters or edit the split point, and navigation icons, which guide users through available pages.

The Max Piano GT is designed for stage or studio and is dedicated to acoustic and electric piano, employing physical modelling to give flexible control over sympathetic resonance, tone, damper noise and more. The FX section is an big part of the X-Piano, with up to two instant effects for each part and two master effects.

NAMM 2023 - PSound - Gran Coda


"Paolo from PSound introduced us to Gran Coda, which is a recreation of the Fazioli Piano. The instrument was recorded inside the Fazioli Concerto Hall in collaboration with the Fazioli technicians to reproduce the real natural sound of the acoustic piano, and it's the only virtual instrument authorized by Fazioli.

Paola's new virtual instrument has three different sounds: the close mic position, the side position, and Binaural Recording. The Binaural Recording simulates the position of the pianist inside the Fazioli Concert Hall. The virtual instrument has up to 14 velocity layers and layers for staccato and resonance, and a total of 10 gigabytes of memory sounds. Paolo added controls, such as the release, the volume of the release of the sound, the pedal noise, and resonance, to reproduce the real natural sound of the acoustic piano.

"Here is one review by a Sledge owner/user

Very versatile synth with 3 filter modes, good modulation and wave tables, which is not common on hardware synths. The analogue sounds are great, sounds very close to the Oberheim for its pads, and can sound very Minimoog like also. It is an FM synth and can add harmonics via a FM amount knob but it isn't a true FM like a DX7. How it would work is by assigning the ramp LFO to one oscillator and have the second or 3rd oscillator carriers be modulated by osc1 (or osc2 in the case of osc3) so you can make some basic style patches like bells. I like using it to add harmonics to tones. Making patches is fun and straightforward with a knob per function."

"I got a new keyboard! The Studiologic Numa Compact is a great combination stage piano/synthesizer that has bi-timbral voicing, 4 simultaneous built-in FX plus reverb, and studiologic's great organ emulations. The only issue I have with it is that the filter control is very fiddly, being located on a spring-loaded joystick. This simple hack installs a potentiometer and switch on the front panel to allow fine control of the filter frequency on all patches."

This is like a cheap Waldorf. The best CHEAPEST Waldorf money can buy...........see what I bolded there...I really REALLY like the sound of the Sledge, I’d say this is a real hidden gem, truly a joy to play, not the best build, for under $1000, yeah I’d go with the Sledge over a bunch of other newer VAs.

Studiologic Sledge on top. It took me a second to ID the bottom. See if you can. Tip: what looks kind of like a knob the right isn't. Not sure what it is, but everything else matches up. Highlight the following for the synth: GEM Promega 2.
