Waldorf Boosts Rocket Synthesizer with Free iOS App

"BAD NEUENAHR, GERMANY: high-quality synthesizer developer Waldorf is proud to announce availability of Rocket Control, a free iOS assistant app for iPad that boosts the capabilities of its Rocket hardware synthesizer...

Earlier this year, Waldorf went hell for leather to break the price/performance sound barrier when launching its revolutionary Rocket, a superficially simplistic USB-powered desktop synthesizer with digital waveforms and analogue multimode filter housed in a sturdy, compact and bijou (185 x 185 mm) casing. But beneath an eye-catching faceplate designed by synthesizer style guru Axel Hartmann lies a wealth of ear-opening sounds fit to reach for the stars! To the untrained eye it may look like the Rocket only offers a single oscillator, but truly trained Rocket scientists can soon see (and hear) that its OSC section includes some highly-flexible features: for example, selecting the sawtooth waveform switch then turning the adjacent Wave knob clockwise from the centre position adds up to eight sawtooth waves — wunderbar for producing PolySaw cluster-type sounds; selecting the sawtooth waveform and turning both the Wave and Tune knobs to their respective rightmost position activates a special unison mode whereby all eight sawtooth oscillators sound with frequencies according to the held notes, so playing a chord with up to eight notes results in that chord being played by all eight oscillators, whereas playing a single note produces just that — a single note, albeit with all eight oscillators slightly detuned to enrich the sound. Either way, it’s a big sound from a little box with much more on offer besides! Blast off by selecting Boost to add warm, distorted characteristics, perhaps?

But hitting an attractive price point while maintaing Waldorf’s all-important high-quality synthesizer sound meant making some tough design decisions. Rocket has no patch memories, for instance — no great loss to those creative types who like to sculpt sounds each and every time they play, but useful nonetheless in an age of instant recall.

Which is exactly where Rocket Control comes into play. This free iOS assistant app for iPad acts as a synth editor for the Rocket and allows users to edit and/or save their patches (when connected via a Camera Connection Kit, WiFi MIDI, or a CoreMIDI-compatible device). Edits can be viewed onscreen or edited directly on the iPad itself. Users can even play the Rocket using the Rocket Control keyboard — plus Pitch and Mod wheels!

What’s not to like? Rocket Control is invaluable and free! So do yourself a favour and give your Rocket a sonic boost by heading on over to Apple’s App Store and downloading Rocket Control... then reach for the stars!

iPad owners can directly download Rocket Control from Apple’s App Store for free.

The Rocket synthesizer is available to purchase from Waldorf dealers worldwide with an RRP of €244.00 EUR/$349.99 USD (including tax).

Rocket can be seen and heard in an official product demonstration video" [below]

trackinfo: i just finished SC2:HotS and was amazed by it's sounddesign. i loved just sitting there and listening to the zerg-world while in intermission screens. so i gave my new Waldorf Rocket a try, created a simple 4-note pad-sound and a track containing the Rocket while tinkering with its VCO/OSC and filters. it's so nice to work with an analog-synth!

Waldorf Rocket Synthesizer Song Demonstration HQ Audio

Published on Mar 27, 2013 MrSynthmania·17 videos

"Kurzer Track nur mit dem Waldorf Rocket Synthesizer erstellt. Alle Sounds stammen aus dem Rocket, außer den Drums. Hier habe ich einen Loop verwendet. Die Sounds sind teilweise mit Effekten bearbeitet, es wurde aber kein EQ verwendet. Der Sound des Waldorf Rocket fügt sich sehr gut in einem Mix ein. Auch die Bässe sind ziemlich druckvoll.

A little Song only made with the Waldorf Rocket Synthesizer, except the Drums. This is a Loop. The sound is not equalized, but there are several effects used. This Demonstration shows the very good integration of the sounds in a mix down situation. Also the bass sound is very fat."

New Waldorf Rocket Synthesizer - 8 Oscillators, Analog Filter - Video

Rocket Synthesizer Waldorf Music Published on Feb 22, 2013 B4Distribution·25 videos
It looks like Waldorf was saving something for the Musikmesse after all. Curious if this replaces the Pulse 2 announced in 2012 (here, here, and here).

"With Rocket Waldorf introduces a new mini synthesizer that boasts a feature set uncommon in its class. With its advanced oscillator section this small black cube can generate sharp edged leads, gargantuan basses as well as vast synthesizer soundscapes that can resound as an 8-voice chord if desired. (All sounds in this demo were created with Rocket synthesizer, except drums, samples were used here.) SRP 205,- Euro plus taxes

Tech specs:
• Analog multimode-filter (VCF) with Low Pass / Band Pass / High Pass
• VCF-input
• Highly flexible oscillator-section with pulse width modulation and hard sync
• Up to 8 oscillators in unison for chords or Ultra High Density Sawtooth
• Low Frequency Oscillator (LFO) for modulation
• Envelopes for VCA, VCF and Sync
• Booster circuit to generate aggressive sounds
• Arpeggiator with different rhythmic patterns
• Glide
• USB powered
• MIDI in and out
• Extensive control panel with high-end pots and switches
• Control via MIDI and USB
• MIDI clock sync
• Line output
• Loud headphone output
• Launch key for easy pre listening
• Made in Germany

Demo song composed by Erik Heirman"

And via Waldorf:

"Lift-off!

No one expected this Rocket launch, which is in clear violation of several UN resolutions and basic laws of physics. Unlike conventional missiles, this one comes in a square shape and will be sold world-wide in complete ignorance of German governments exports restrictions.

It's incredible sound is a powerful weapon of mass destruction, and never before has this been achieved with such an enormous fun factor. It features an analog multimode VCF with lowpass, bandpass, and highpass, resonance up to self oscillation and beyond, a powerful monophonic oscillator section with Ultra High Density Sawtooth and unison for chord play.

Furthermore equipped with a powerful Arpeggiator and a destructive Booster circuit, this Rocket is technologically way ahead of all current defense systems.

Rocket is an ideal fun sound design machine, which in combination with its extremely attractive price, will appeal to any sound designer and musician interested in quality sounds. It works as a stand-alone instrument or in any imaginable music production environment. But its most important feature is of course its sound: a real Waldorf synthesizer, powerful, direct and with a lot of love for the details.

And of course, this Rocket is 100% Made in Germany - With Love!"

Waldorf Rocket Review Part 1 - Features Rundown

Published on Mar 21, 2013 TheManWithTheSynth·1 video

Quick notes: Oscillator can be set to Saw or Pulse wave.   There are two knobs for them.  Wave on the left and Tune on the right.  In Saw mode, when Wave is below the 12 o'clock position you can add additional oscillators one at a time by turning the Wave knob.  You use the Tune knob to detune them.  At the 12 o'clock position the oscillators go into musical intervals.  For Saw you have unison with paraphonic polyphony mode when both Wave & Tune knobs are turned fully to the right. In Pulse mode the Wave knob adjusts the pulse width below 12 o'clock, after 12 applies LFO for pulse width modulation.  The Tune knob in Pulse mode adds an extra oscillator and musical intervals after the 12 position.  Analog Lowpass, Bandpass and Highpass filter modes with keyboard tracking and resonance. Boost circuit is raunchy.  LFO goes into low audio range.  The Arp has some interesting functionality, again above the 12 o'clock position of it's Depth/Range knob.   Envelop is instant on so no slow attacks.  Switch for quick attacks.  Two envelopes but they share the same Decay.  The Rocket also supports velocity and aftertouch.  For full specs and clarifications download the full manual here.

"In the first part of my Waldorf Rocket review I am doing a quick rundown of the features of the synthesizer. Mind that I am not trying to create beautiful sounds and the audio setup is rather amateurish - this video is just features presentation for those of you who are too lazy to download and read the manual ;) I will do a proper sound demo in about two days. While I know quite a bit about synthesizers this is my first youtube video, so I apologize for any technical shortcomings."

Waldorf Rocket review part 2 - sound demo

Published on Mar 29, 2013 TheManWithTheSynth·2 videos

"Following the feature rundown I am now giving you a sound demo of the Waldorf Rocket with some commentary on how I produced the sounds. The signal path is synthesizer going directly into the audio interface with the exception of lead sounds where I use Boss Space Echo (the modern emulated version) for delay."

JayB and his Waldorf Rocket (Sound demo)

Published on Dec 1, 2013 JayB·67 videos

"Heh, I've got a new toy. The Waldorf Rocket is a little hybrid synth with one digital oscillator (with up to 8 voices) and and an analog 12 dB Waldorf filter.
In contrast to many other demos you see this demo shows the Waldorf in a more musical environment, less focusing on technical aspects. Thus the sound of the Rocket isn't clean.
Yes, the audio is a bit delayed toward the end of the video. And yes, the auto focus of my phone's camera likes my hand. :P

The demo is divided into three parts:
- bass line
- polyphone chord synth Deadmau5 style
- live improvisation with the Rocket's internal arpeggiator (no MIDI sync)

The complete FX chain includes:
- Logic's Channel EQ (light bass and treble gain)
- Blue Chan Free Chorus (starting at 3:12)
- Logic's Stereo Delay (starting at 3:12)
- Logic's Platinum Reverb
- Logic's Compressor (for sidechaining)

Additional sound sources:
- Logic's EXS24 for the kick
- Quasimidi Sirius (hihat)
- Roland V-Synth XT (additional bass while polyphone mode demonstration)

monstrumRocket Cross-Platform Editor for Waldorf Rocket

"monstrumRocket just launched!
This is a cross-platform software editor for the Waldorf Rocket synthesizer which allows saving and loading of sound programs and full access to every common and under-the-hood parameter on the synth.

You can use the software to connect to your rocket either through the synth's USB or MIDI ports, however you have the synth connected to the computer running monstrumRocket.

In addition to all common parameters on the rocket's front panel this editor also gives you a sustain/hold toggle button, a vibrato modulator, Local on/off, reset all, all notes off, MIDI panic as well as an xy surface to modulate two parameters at once.

And if that's not enough an added feature to this editor gives you the ability to store and load programs to and from your hard drive which is a massive feature add for this synth which has no assignable memory!

Expect to see quite a bit of new features built into this editor from monstrumMedia in the next few weeks and months! The Rocket is just begging to be exploited!

monstrumRocket is available for only $9.99 from www.monstrummedia.com.
Life-time free updates!"
