Jack O'Reilly - The Synth Wars (Cover)

video upload by Hugh R

"Just a separate upload of the cover I did for my previous video. Just a sick song from one of my favorite shows. Recorded entirely on my modular synthesizer (with some supporting pads done with the KORG Polysix)"

Barton Musical Circuits BMC106 Resonant Glide

video upload by boogdish

via Barton Musical Circuits

"This module is composed of two Sallen-Key low pass filters designed to be used on very low frequencies. When pitch control voltages are processed through this, it creates a portamento which then turns into vibrato. Depending on resonance control, this vibrato can die out almost immediately or go on for the duration of the note. When used with envelope generators, this module can be used to add extra "bumpiness" to an envelope signal allowing for more harmonic content. With a gate signal, the module can be used as a simple envelope generator with equal sloped attack and release.

This design can be used with +/-15V systems without modification"

BMC107 Schematic Walkthrough. Dual Comparator W/Logic Outputs

via Barton Musical Circuits
"This module is composed of two voltage controlled comparators which are gate outputs that turn on when an input voltage exceeds a threshold voltage. Four additional gate outputs turn off and on depending on the relative outputs of the comparators. This was initially designed as a way to add soft-sync features to VCOs that only have hard-sync, but has also been useful for turning envelope generators into gated loops

This design can be used with +/-15V systems with a few resistor value changes."

M140 Clock Divider / Universal Logic Block Beat

video upload by

"Quick patch using the Lower West Side Studio M140 Clock Divider / Universal Logic Block.

The patch clock is an Oakley Dual LFO. From the LFO the signal is divided by an M122 Master Divider and passed to the M140 Clock Divider / ULB.

Gates have been created using the M712 Sequencer Sidecar which will be used in an accent portion of the beat.

The 'hi-hat' is a Hexinverter Jupiter Storm (modulated) through a Journeymen VCF (dual Oakley Journeyman).

Drum sounds are all produced with Barton BMC018 Analog Drum Modules along with a LWSS Duo-Bop (2 x BMC018)"

BMC105 JFET Phaser

Demonstration video upload by boogdish

BMC105 schematic walkthrough

via Barton Musical Circuits

"This module is a 12-stage phaser or all-pass filter with resonance control. When the filter’s output is mixed with the input, this creates notches in the frequency response. Classic phasing sounds are achieved by modulating the frequency control with an LFO. It can also be used as a 4-stage filter by removing the top PCB and jumpering pins 1 and 2 of the pin connectors together.

This module uses two circuit boards sandwhiched together. It's designed for 12V systems and can be easily modified for use with 15V systems."

"This is four LFOs in one module to effeciently add more up and down to patches. Each LFO has a range of 0.04 to 55hz and triangle/square output waveforms.

This module is designed for 12V systems but can be used with 15V systems by adjusting 8 resistor values."

New Barton Musical Circuits BMC093 Diode Shaper VCA & BMC092 Sample Release

BMC093 Diode Shaper VCA Demovideo upload by boogdish

"Demonstration/Overview of a new synthesizer module design.
I provide PCBs/Panels for DIY builders and also sell pre-built modules on my site. Visit https://www.bartonmusicalcircuits.com... to get more information on this module. PCBs and fully built modules can be ordered from: https://bartonmusicalcircuits.com/sho..."

This module is a VCA that uses rectified feedback/feedforward to provide waveshaping. Both the feedback/forward knobs can provide positive or negative feedback and the external CV control is an attenuverter. It also includes switchable Zener diode limiters to soften the output when large amounts of positive feedback are used. The module is DC coupled, so it can be used with LFOs, Envelopes and CV sources as well waveforms. The DC coupling also allows for DC offset to be applied to the input which increases harmonic possibilities.
This module is designed for 12V systems, but works with 15V systems with just one resistor change. The documentation gives tips on how to tweak or modify the circuit.

BMC092. Sample Release Demo video upload by boogdish

"This is a demo/overview of a new synthesizer module design. More information (schematics, ordering, etc) can be found at bartonmusicalcircuits.com/samplerelease/"

The Sample Release is a 4 channel bipolar envelope generator module that can also act as a sample-and-hold or track-and-hold. Each channel takes a voltage input, samples it and then that voltage goes to zero volts with it's rate controlled by the release knob. This generates control envelopes that fall when positive voltage inputs are applied and rise when negative voltage inputs are applied. Each channel has a toggle that disables the release function and lets the channel act as a traditional sample-and-hold or track-and-hold. Additionally, a +5V supply is normalized to the voltage input so the module can also be used as a normal release generator

Switched Resistor VCF from Barton Musical Circuits

5U - FM Drone

video by Precarious333 Music

"Testing out some modules (outside the case). Patch is an ElectroSmith VCO with linear FM from Q106A sine which is sequenced by a SympleSEQ. Saw out from ElectroSmith to Barton BMC034 Switched Resistor VCF (built by Lower West Side Studio) running 2 low pass filters in series. Barton BMC034 is modulated by Encore Universal Event Generator running through the inverter on Q155 with inversion modulated by an audio frequency signal from SSL 1710 5-PULSER which is processing the same Q106A FM-ing the ElectroSmith VCO, introducing a pitch heard as the accented notes. The inverter output is then fed to the Curver section of Q155 modulated by a second Encore UEG. Simple, right? Ha-ha!

Q155 Curver is a really great module. Works great to add uniqueness to modulation signals and audio alike. I'm sure I'll find a place for it in every patch.

A minute into the video I introduce an inverted copy of the sequence controlling Q106A into the Clock input on the Barton BMC034. This is an experimental input on a very strange filter producing unexpected results. In this instance we get a sweet spot that produces truncated versions of the sequence because the filter freaks out creating dead zones. I like that kind of thing. \ (•◡•) /

Things fall into chaos when I exponentially FM the ElectroSmith VCO by another VCO running a different sequence which degenerates into the noise at the end.

"This is a demo for a new DIY synthesizer module I designed. If you're interested in building this, you can find ordering information, a documentation PDF and a front panel drill guide at http://www.bartonmusicalcircuits.com/..."

"Utility Buttons is a performance/controller module that provides gate/trigger outputs based on button presses. Buttons can be set to act as momentary, latching or tap tempo. Each channel has two outputs, one of which can be configured as a Multiple, inversion or trigger of the other output.

This module works on either 12V or 15V systems with no modification. The switches are mounted to the PCB to minimize wiring, but jacks are offboard so it can be easily used in multiple synthesizer formats. Outputs are +5V."
