TLN 712 Doomsday Machine

Demo # 1 video upload by Lower West Side Studio

"Demonstration of the Tellun Corporation TLN-712 Doomsday Machine module. This version of the TLN-712 is in MU format and is built by Lower West Side Studio.

The TLN-712 is a wave shaping module containing 4 voltage controlled LFOs and 2 separate wave shapers. It can enhance, modify and destroy sound.

In this video 2 triangle waves are fed into the Cascading Biogenic Pulse section of the module. It's quite awesome.

For more information visit Lower West Side Studio - https://richsstudioproject.wpcomstagi..."

The TLN-712 Doomsday Machine designed by The Tellun Corporation combines 4 voltage controlled Low Frequency Oscillators with 2 Waveform Animators. Combined together this incredible module can produce or mangle waveforms allowing you to create some incredible audible experiences.

The TLN-712 Doomsday Machine is a voltage controlled waveform animator for modular synthesizers.

Originally conceived as two separate modules, the TLN-712 comprises two different animation circuits and four voltage-controlled LFOs (low frequency oscillators).

The first animator (Thalaran Radiation Emitter) is based on the Multi-Phase Waveform Animator by Bernie Hutchins.

The second animator (Cascading Biogenic Pulse) is based on the Pulse Width Multiplier by Craig Anderton. Both circuits require several modulation sources in order to generate their animation effect.

The four built-in LFOs provide the necessary modulation without the need for external modules. Patch points are included for external modulation, if desired.

Features:

Four modulation sources. Each source has an OFFSET pot to set the initial modulation point, a MOD input jack with attenuator to allow for external control of modulation, and an internal LFO. All four modulation sources are internally connected to both animators.

Each internal LFO has a RATE pot, an LED to provide visual indication of the rate, and a DEPTH pot to set the amount of LFO fed to the animators. Each LFO has a 10 Vpp triangle wave output that is available for external use. Internally, each LFO provides a sine wave to the two animators.

The rate and depth of all LFOs can be changed en masse using the EXT RATE and EXT DEPTH jacks and attenuators. Use these with your keyboard control voltage, modulation wheel, or foot pedal to control the speed and depth of animation.

The Thalaran Radiation Emitter has one input jack (IN A) and three output jacks (SAW, TRI, STEP). A sawtooth wave is normally applied to IN A, but sine or triangle waves can also be used (almost any waveform except pulse waves will produce some kind of useful output). With a sawtooth input, the SAW output comprises the input signal plus four phase shifted versions of the input signal (sounds like five sawtooth waves). The phase shift is controlled by the four modulation sources. The TRI output provides a similar effect but with five triangle waves. The STEP output is a bizarre staircase waveform where the depth of each step is controlled by the four modulation sources.

The Cascading Biogenic Pulse has two input jacks (IN B and AUX) and four output jacks (PULSE 1-4). A triangle wave is normally applied to IN B, but sine or sawtooth waves can also be used (almost any waveform except pulse waves will work). The four PULSE outputs produce an intense pulse width modulation (PWM) effect with single, double, triple, and quadruple pulses appearing at outputs 1-4 respectively. Think of it as PWM on steroids. The PWM effect is controlled by the four modulation sources. The AUX input can be used to provide an additional level of animation, or to cascade two TLN-712s to get even more intense PWM, or to provide a cross-product effect.

All inputs and outputs are DC-coupled. Either animator can be used to produce strangely wonderful waveforms for modulating other signals. The Cascading Biogenic Pulse can even be used to generate rhythmic gates and triggers.

All inputs and outputs handle 10 Vpp audio signals and 5 volt control voltage signals (modular standard).

You can find previous incarnations of the TLN 712 Doomsday Machine in previous posts here.

"Lower West Side Studio demonstrates the TLN-442 Voltage Controlled Filter by The Tellun Corporation

The TLN-442 is a 4-Pole Low Pass filter offering sounds from the mild to the wild. Check out some of the features or click the link below to learn more..."

via Lower West Side Studio

"The TLN-442 is a four pole low pass filter built around a Curtis Electromusic Specialties CEM 3320 chip. A built in mixer allows for three audio inputs. The filter frequency can be set using a panel mounted pot, a “one volt per octave” external control voltage, or via two external FM inputs with attenuators (one reversing). Filter resonance can be set using a panel mounted pot or an external control voltage with a reversing attenuator.

A four pole low pass filter built with a CEM 3320 was used in the Sequential Circuits Prophet Five (rev. 3) and Pro One synthesizers."

"This is a Tellun Corp Nerual Agonizer dual spring reverb module, normally an MOTM module, built into a Hammond slanted case. It uses banana jacks for patch points, not 1/4" or 1/8".

A description from the site:

'The TLN-156 Neural Agonizer is a voltage controlled spring reverb processor. Although this module can be used to simulate room reverb with most audio signals, it includes numerous enhancements specifically designed for interfacing to a modular synthesizer. If you're looking for a smooth, natural sounding reverb system to make your synthesizer sound like its being played in the Concertgebouw, then go buy a Lexicon. This is not your grandmother's reverb tank, this is a noxious tool capable of inflicting some serious damage to your audio.

The TLN-156 features: an amplifier for controlling the input signal level, two reverb tanks that can be driven in series or parallel, separate recovery amplifiers and resonators for each reverb tank, a feedback amplifier with lowpass filter, and a deformation processor for combining the reverb tank outputs. Most parameters are voltage controllable and several patch points are available for adding additional signal processing. All inputs and outputs handle 10 Vpp audio signals and 5 volt control voltage signals (modular standard).'

It has a built in power supply - Frequency Central's Power PCB's, and comes with 16v AC wallwart adapter to power everything."

Tellun Industries TLN-712 Doomsday Machine

via this auction

Assembled by Free State FX

"The TLN-712 is a massive waveshaper that sounds unlike anything I (and probably you too) have heard before. The module contains (1)Multi-Phase Waveform Animator, (1)Pulse Width Multiplier, and (4)LFO's. In my opinion, the name "Doomsday Machine" makes is seem like this thing just destroys any audio that you run through it, and while it is certainly capabale of doing that, it is also capable of gentle movement that adds realism and intrigue to patches.

* There is a small surface scratch (not through the paint) above the third LFO's "OFFSET" Pot. The scratch is very light and only visible at a certain angle.

Assembled with:
(2) Audio Inputs + Auxillary Input
External Rate and Depth Inputs with Attenuators
Tri, Saw and Step Outputs
(4) PWM Outputs
(4) Internal LFOs with Offset, External Modulation, Rate, and Depth Controls
External Modulation Input Jack for each LFO
Triangle LFO Output Jack for each LFO
Sine Wave LFO Output Jack for each LFO
Switchcraft Jacks
Military Grade RG-174 Coax Cable Used on Audio Signals
Polyester Film Capacitors
Metal Film Resistors
Double Plated PCB with Soldermask
MOTM Power Connector
Runs on +/- 15 Volts
Hand Signed and Numbered

Here is some additional information about the TLN-712 from the Tellun Industries Website.

Patch Serendipity #2

YouTube via neandrewthal — May 27, 2010 — "Another self playing patch with randomly selected modules. This time an MFOS Dual VCA, MFOS VCO and a combo of a CGS master divider, 2 Tellun Lag Processors, and 2 MFOS Quantizers. Not very easy to work with since only the VCO makes noise and the other modules can't do anything without the VCO. Oh well, there's no turning back. I hope I get a better selection next time."

Updates on Tellun.com

via Scott on the Modular Panels list:

"I spent the day updating a number of projects on my website. Most of these are for my MUUB based utility modules. In some cases I simply added a Bridechamber panel to an already built module. For others I completely rebuilt the module using MUUB-3 boards in order to avoid stacking PCBs on top of each other. In some instances I created my own panels by making up a template with Front Panel Designer, printing it out, and then pasting it overtop of my plastic panel. Direct links for each of these can be found below.

I also posted some details about a mod for the MOTM-120 that I had done several years ago but forgot to add to my website. I had been discussing some oddball behaviour regarding the MOTM-120 with another list member and mentioned this simple mod not realizing that it wasn't commonly known (see #3 on this page):

Next up I'll be building a couple of Klee sequencers with Bridechamber panel. So far only one simple modification is planned.

Happy synth building!"

snowklee

YouTube via sduck409
"Got snowed in, no-one else in the house, so spent some hours messing my the modular synth and the klee driving it all. Nothing serious here, just experimenting to see what patterns I might find by switching switches. This is a basic 3-voice patch - first voice is the Ian Fritz DoubleDekka VCO into the Mankato filter, with a bit of delay from the Blacet Time Machine. Second voice is the Ian Fritz Teezer VCO into the MOTM 440 filter. Third voice is a MOTM 300 into the Tellun Doomsday Machine and then into the MOTM 480 filter. Video is just my flip video camera; the audio is recorded directly into the computer, and no effects were added."

Neural Agonizer - brief test thing

YouTube via sduck409

"Greetings from shaky camera world! Video is from my flip video camera thingy, audio is recorded into SoundBooth, no added effects of any kind. Just a quick demo of some of the things my very new Neural Agonizer can do. Oh - the Neural Agonizer is an enhanced spring reverb for analog modular synthesizers - it uses 2 reverb tanks, and was designed by Scott Juskiw of Tellun Industries. I haven't spent a lot of time calibrating the thing yet, so the settings are not optimal - it's all a bit too dark sounding to me, and the stress and trauma knobs don't have enough effect yet. I'll add some annotations of what's going on, but if you're watching this on an iphone or something similar you may not see those."
