The Ciat Lonbarde Peterlin - Peter Blasser Meets Benjolin

Chaos Patterns with the Ciat-Lonbarde Benjolin / Peterlin Synthesizer

video upload by Duskmos

Note the "Peterlin" made it's first appearance with Hainbach on May 7 here on MATRIXSYNTH. This post features a few examples from others, and additional details and pics below.

Above: "In this Signal Colors Palette video, I'm taking a first look at the Ciat-Lonbarde Benjolin / Peterlin, a tiny wooden synth featuring a nod to synthesis history by putting the focus on sound creation with a circuit design inspired by the 'Rungler' by Rob Hordijk.

Hang out while I coax some cool sounds from this wildly experimental sounding synth!"

Quirky little groove machine: Ciat-Lonbarde Peterlin first impressions

video upload by NoctopolisMusic

"Listen to albums, download tracks and support me at https://noctopolis.bandcamp.com/
I was lucky to get a Ciat-Lonbarde Peterlin (why not Blassolin though?) from the first batch at PatchPoint and these are clips from my first don´t-know-what-I-do-sessions with it. First one: solo. Second one: with Lorre Mill Double Knot 3. Third one: with Moog Subharmonicon."

Ciat Lonbarde Peterlin meets Serge VC Resonant Equalizer

video upload by La Synthèse Humaine

This is the first post to feature the Peterlin.

"first patch ring modulates peterlin xor to vcfq with a sine wave - both controlled by rungler. this is mixed with the peterlin audio output in the vc res eq and its bands get modulated by various peterlin outputs

second and third patches have a bit less and a bit more going on... all gets a little confusing and knotted up

check out my newest album Contraluz here: https://critiqueofeverydaylife.bandca..."

"Dressed in their signature banana jack-laden wooden enclosure, the Peterlin is Ciat-Lonbarde's take on the Benjolin: a tribute to the synthesizer designs of Rob Hordijk. Deceptively simple in appearance, the Peterlin is a highly interconnected instrument containing two oscillators, a resonant lowpass filter, and Peter Blasser's take on the infamous Rungler circuit. Clocked by one oscillator, the Rungler is a shift register feeding upon not only its own output, but also listening to the output of the other oscillator to further influence its data with feedback chaos. As the Rungler's CV output is then fed into the oscillators and filter, a range of hefty drones and chaotic noise is possible. Of course, the Ciat-Lonbarde take on this classic experimental instrument is filled with its own mysteries.

Exploring The Ciat-Lonbarde Benjolin

video upload by HAINBACH

"Peter Blasser of Ciat-Lonbarde adopted Rob Hordijk's Benjolin into his own wooden synth world. He made it into a surprising idea machine that brings out new patterns and riffs from tiny dial nudges by the player. I have had the pleasure of trying out many prototypes along the way, and here is a demo of the production unit I received as a thank you for my feedback. Thanks to Richard Scott (https://richardscott.bandcamp.com) for the insights.

Yet Another Wondrous Machine By Ciat-Lonbarde, the Sidrax Organ 🐈

video upload by PanicGirlVids

"What could be better than some soft melodies for harsh times with another wondrous machine by Ciat-Lonbarde? Thanks so much for sending it over Patchpoint 🐈
In the background you are hearing a melody from Slate+Ash Landforms, which I also find highly inspiring these days. I hope you guys are doing well, sending you lots of good vibes 🐞🐞"

video in the listing previously posted here.

"One of the most unique instruments I've played. A lot of fun to play and capable of weird soundscapes and even weirder beats.

Comes with the shown banana cables.

--

There is a new Plumbutter, which we will herein call "Plumbutter 2". It is very much similar to the old plumbutter, but in a new slim case. The sigils are engraved rather than printed. Still features the signature mulberry, walnut and sassafras woodage. Aux inputs and outputs remain. Besides housekeeping mods to clean the sound, there are two special new mods:

The stereo mixer section now has CV inputs. They act to in a stereo manner: a signal going up on "verso" makes the right side louder and the left side quieter, and the opposite for "inverso".
Avdogs are now stereo: each one undulates in the left channel and the right channel, back and forth.
The snare drum is now much louder"

"Text by Peter Blasser

The Sidrax Organ follows a lineage of electronic musical instruments based on touch. It was redesigned twice, first as Sidrassi, then as Sidrazzi. It has seven wooden bars that you press to express seven oscillators within. Each oscillator has its own fine tuning slider, embedded right within its bar. Also, there is a master pitch knob, and a master chaos knob. The master chaos knob makes the instrument go from pure triangle tones to a nest of noise. It does this by gradually increasing modulation from one oscillator to the next in a circular pattern. Sidrax has enough bars to construct sweetest melodies from the triangle waves, whereas Tetrax is a simple four-bar entity, with complexity of tone for funky bass.

There are 44 modulation points brought forth as banana jacks. They are arranged in seven columns, representing the seven bars. Their layout is shifted diagonally, to allow inputs in proximity to outputs. This is for touch-playability; you can make banana jack metal studs that can be squished by hand to gesture-patch the instrument. Inputs are cool colors: blue, green, and grey. Outputs are hot colors: red and orange. The grey jacks are parallel inputs with the master knobs: the one on the left is for master pitch, the right one is master chaos. The color allotment for each bar is as follows:

Two orange jacks, representing the press and release gestures on that bar in voltage.
One red jack, which is the pure triangle output of that oscillator.
Two green jacks, that are "glitch" inputs. They cause the boundary conditions of each oscillator to wire to the output of another. A modulation inspired by circuit bending.
One blue jack, an fm modulation input for that oscillator.
The Sidrax organ has a stereo-mini output on the back. This is because each bar, outputs in different channels during the press/release cycle. In addition to the stereo-mini jack, it has an power switch, and optional built-in batteries, or an external, 9volt battery snap."

Hainbach - A Voice Magnetic | The One Take Recording Sessions

video upload by HAINBACH

"This is an excerpt from my new Album 'A Voice Magnetic'. You can hear and see all the pieces I recorded as one-takes.

Voice Magnetic by Hainbach is the enigmatic Berlin based artist’s sonic diary of 2022. On his sixth release on Seil Records, He collages the sounds he made and the ones that surrounded him over the course of twelve months into a powerfully intimate ambient experience.

In his studio or on travels —Hainbach always is working on new material and allows the locations he records his tracks in to find their way into the music. Consequently, on many tracks you can can hear the outside bleeding in — seagulls and waves on 'Izmir', the voices of his children while recording the piano or the sirens of Neukölln’s police cars in background.

The connecting threads between these pieces are magnetic tape and the human voice — hiss and breath. The result are 15 immersive ambient pieces that make up Voice Magnetic.
Often short like the moments that spark them. Fading and intricate, honest and pure.
Voice Magnetic is released on April 25th, 2023 via Seil Records on Cassette Tape and Digital (Downloads are free/name-your-price for the first two weeks) via Bandcamp. Streaming platforms will follow on May 10th."

How Ancient Electronics Write Music For HAINBACH

video upload by HAINBACH

"I was commissioned to write a piece for solo sax and electronics, something I have never done before. I decided I would approach the composition in the same way that I improvise with other musicians. I would compose as if I was on stage with the performer, Dr. Hall. The 'live' setup I created for this ended up writing a good part of the music for me, in a human/machine feedback loop.

"Yes it is a stereo filter but because it is based on the Rungler it is also capable of flights of aleatoric synth sound. Because of this it can stand alone or paired with other Ciat-Lonbarde devices. Watch Hainbach's THE BIZZARE BEAUTY OF THE STUBER [posted here] for more info and tips on how to approach this device."

Herzlich Labs MAXIMA Touch Controller

video upload by Esoteric Music Machines

"Super fun first play with the Herzlich Labs https://www.etsy.com/shop/HerzlichLab... MAXIMA touch controller, interfacing with Ieaskul F Mobenthey modules (Fourses, Denum, Denum, Sprott).

It's a really fun controller that works particularly well with the BOUNDS inputs on many IFM modules. It's housed in a custom (3D printed?) case, it's very fun to use, and I don't understand how an unpowered controller can even do what this one does, but there you are."

"The MMI Maxima is the final word in MMI technology. Beautiful gold patterns form gradients of touch sensitive surface areas, each connected to an input/output. Drag, rub, pinch or tap your fingers across to form connections, and create evocative and unique performances. Utilize the various pattern densities and shapes in your performance, or create installations with whatever conductive material is to hand.

Operation is easy: simply plug any audio, LFO, CV, trigger, gate, offset or clock into any of the inputs on the front panel, and connect one or several outputs to destinations in your system. The symbols near the sockets correspond to the shapes on the panel, and all that remains is for you to form the connection between the desired symbols with your hand, or any other conductive object you may have. Connect multiple at the same time to achieve liquid, gradual mixing, evolving rhythmic patterns, mixed LFOs and more. Furthermore, touch the pressure plates more firmly or in more dense areas to form stronger connections - in practice, this means a signal will pass with more or less intensity, based on the pressure you apply."

"Unique piece of sound art; this noise machine features paper circuit, Fourses, designed by Peter B.

8% of the profits from this sale will be sent to Peter B as donation/thank you for use of his paper circuits.

104 brass sandrodes and one copper listener node, internal speaker switched off by 1/4” out, powered by 9v battery or 12vdc wall wart (not included), 8 white LED under Apophylite crystal points – one with some Stilbite, 8 knobs, walnut, purple heart and birch, acrylic bottom – protected by rubber feet.

Note, first three photos use flash, which bounces off the beeswax and olive oil used to seal the wood. This makes it appear brighter and redder. Under more normal light, the wood looks darker and more muted. Pics w/o flash give a little better idea, but probably sunlight would be best. Anyways, i'll leave that to you."
