DSP Synthesizers Infinity37 – Poly DIY Synth

via DSP Synthesizers

"Back from doing the string synth on an Arduino Nano I thought this time, let's make it fully polyphonic like the PolyMoog.

The Infinity37 is a fully polyphonic synthesizer running on the Polytron37 chip or as DIY on a Arduino Nano.

I don't quite think like other people writing DSP code on the ATmega platform but it sure does turn out beautiful.

Follow the build on the blog with code, demos and explanations."

New DSP Synthesizers Eurorack Module with Dual Touch Keyboards

You might remember the DSP Synthesizers eurorack module that featured an extended touch keyboard. That module featured the micro-TS synth engine.

This module, in turn, is the controller section featuring a dual touch CV keyboard with a separate coarse tune knob for each.

Sound Semiconductor SSI2144 VCF Now Available in Single Quantities at DSP Synthesizers

via DSP Synthesizers

"The SSI2144 reprises the SSM2044 of legacy chipmaker

Solid State Microtechnology, which many believe to be the best-sounding analog synthesis filter IC ever produced.

Based on Dave Rossum’s patented classic improved ladder topology, the SSI2144 allows rich tonal characteristics that showcase the very best attributes of subtractive synthesis.

The SSI2144 uses the same internal circuit as the SSM2044 but in a SSOP-16 package.

It is now available at DSP Synthesizers in single quantities for DIY projects.

There is also an adapter PCB for converting it to a DIP-16 SSM2044 replacement to upgrade or repair vintage synthesizers."

You can read about the SSI2144 from Sound Semiconductor here.

Infinity37 First DCO test

Published on May 14, 2017 Jan Ostman

"The Infinity37 is a fully polyphonic analog hybrid synthesizer using the Polytron37 chip.

This is the first test and it is just the square wave output of the chip with no filter.

New DSP Synthesizers Polytron37 Divide Down Oscillator & Infinity37 Prototype Keyboard

via DSP Synthesizers

"Remember the old top octave divide-down organ oscillators?

They were fully polyphonic although with limited on/off envelopes.

The Polytron37 keyboard oscillator is a modern divide-down oscillator.

Besides being fully polyphonic on 37 keys it also features attack and release envelope, separate and polyphonic for each key.

It scans the 37-key keyboard, sends and receive MIDI, handles analog inputs for pitchbend and modulation, has analog inputs for ENV and outputs the audio and gate for following filters etc.

This is the prototype of the Infinity37.

Using the Polytron37, fully polyphonic DCO chip and featuring the brand new SSI2144 VCF, it will be a groundbreaking new analog hybrid synthesizer.

This is divide-down oscillator technology and filters creating a fully polyphonic synthesizer in 2017."

DSP Synthesizers Introduces First Eurorack Module with Mini-Extended Keyboard?

via DSP Synthesizers

"This is the micro-TS synth built into a 14HP Eurorack module."

Check out that keyboard. Is this the first eurorack module with a mini-extended keyboard like that? There are others that are flat.

Update: It's interesting when you think about it. Why are knobs and switches the only controls that usually stick out of modules? Someone needs to make a rubber band controller between to points that extend out of the module. Guitar strings? What other sorts of controls can you think of that might be useful? We've seen metronomes and other mechanical modules from gieskes and bastl, but this is somewhat different. The focus here is in interacting with the module itself, rather than using the module to CV control other modules or gear. Just something to think about.

New DSP Synthesizers Micro-TS Pics

Check out the handle!

"The Micro-TS is the smallest playable and programmable synthesizer in the world.

The micro-TS is a key fob sized DIY synthesizer (61x41mm) with actually useable knobs like an analog synthesizer.

It has a one octave touch keyboard, 6 knobs and a stereo headphone output.

Running on a CR2032 button cell battery it is the smallest playable and programmable synthesizer in the world.

And the best of all is that it is open source software and hardware.

Check it out."

DSP Synthesizers Tiny-TS Gets Bigger

"Meet the mini-TS – 2 Octave Touch Synthesizer

The Tiny-TS got bigger!
Say hello to the pocket WASP.

It now features a 2 octave touch keyboard in 165x65mm.

Still the same great synth engine, CV/Gate output and now also added MIDI IN/OUT.

The mini-TS can be built in a number of configurations depending on if you want to use it as a synth, CV controller or MIDI controller.

It will most likely be using a rotary encoder and a display for programming.

Coming at end of April.

Estimated pricing:
PCB only $29
Full kit $79
Prebuilt $99

Make sure you get one by booking on the preorder list.

Preorder the mini-TS $1
(The $1 will be repaid on delivery)"

DSP Synthesizers Micro-TS - Keyfob Touch Synthesizer - The Tiny-TS Goes Micro

Published on Feb 28, 2017 Jan Ostman

via DSP Synthesizers

"Being only keyfob size, 61x41mm, the Micro-TS IS the smallest playable analog synthesizer in the world.

The Micro-TS – Keyfob Touch Synthesizer

If you think the Tiny-TS is small then think again.

The Micro-TS is keyfob sized, 61x41mm but still features the same specs as the Tiny-TS.

It runs on 3V so a CR2016 button cell works just fine.

The analog knobs have a trim potentiometer footprint.

Output is a 3.5mm stereo headphone jack.

It still has CV/Gate outputs but they are just pads on the PCB edge.

Available from 1st of March.

Only 50 available in the first batch."

DSP Synthesizers JVS-01 Semi Analog Synth Voice

Published on Feb 24, 2017 Jan Ostman

"The chip has a Saw DCO, 24dB lowpass DCF with resonance, DCA amplitude and a 512-stage DDL Chorus.

All parameters are CV controlled."

via DSP Synthesizers

"New chip for 2017!

The JVS-01 is a semi-analog synthesizer voice in a 8-pin DIP.

The chip implements a Juno-style synthesizer voice with a saw integrator DCO, 24dB lowpass biquad filter with resonance, DCA with 1024 level amplitude control and a 512 stage DDL Chorus.

The chorus can be turned on or off.

The signal chain is 96dB 16-bit DSP and the DAC runs a 1MHz PDM signal.

Internal processing is done at a 66KHz sample rate.

The chip can be used as a voice chip for an analog voltage controlled synthesizer.

All CV inputs handle positive 0-5 volt input and the DCO pitch conforms to a 1v/Oct frequency response, 5 octaves, 61Hz – 2KHz range."

Tiny-TS Sequencer Demo w/ New v1.1 Firmware

Published on Dec 26, 2016 Jan Ostman

via DSP Synthesizers

"The Tiny-TS is only monophonic and doesn’t have an arpeggiator.

But with the v1.1 firmware it now also handles CV and Gate input from a sequencer to make it play arpeggios.

On startup it checks if the Gate output is grounded.
If it is it reverses the CV/Gate ports to inputs.

The Gate now triggers the envelope and the CV input shifts an octave up on the keyboard.

Voila!
You can now play arpeggios."
