Circuit Bending Improv - Kids Drum

YouTube via kerikino
"Found this "kids drum" at goodwill/salvation army.

I've had difficulty making practical use of circuit bent toys, because of their unpredictability. However, in this case I feel like the Kids drum is somewhat practical. I realize that a lot of cthe circuit bent charm is the in the uncertainty of what sounds will come out, etc... But i wanted to go beyond circuit bending for circuit bendings sake and tried to harness both the alien nature of the bent toy and then the more human side. My description probably makes little sense. You be the judge I guess."

Moog Realistic MG-1

YouTube via electricpony. via this auction
"first sounds.
Realistic [radio shack] MG-1 designed by Moog.
Fundamentally identical to the Moog Rogue besides a slightly different interface and lacking a pitch or mod wheel."

Note the videos are from different people and this one is from November of 2008. My guess is neither are the unit listed at the auction link above and are just examples of the MG-1. The image below is from the auction.

How to poorly play the analogue synthesizer

How To Modify Concertmate MG-1 Synthesizer by Moog - 1/4" Input & Output

"In this video I remove the RCA input and output jacks on the Realistic Concertmate MG-1 by Moog Music and replace them with 1/4" mono ins and outs.

Since this synthesizer is an older, entirely analogue synthesizer, it is relatively easy to make these modifications. All you need is a soldering iron, some solder, maybe a solder remover, some wire, a resistor or two, and just a little bit of time."

triggering poly61 arpeggiator

YouTube via nathanielscott
"Here I use a small toy ten step sequncer to trigger aa Korg Poly 61's arpeggiator."

synth R&D for performance

YouTube via nathanielscott
"I am playing two instruments both are made out of Radio Shack electronic learning kits. The first instrument is an a sort of cheap-o optical theremin that I am playing with my left hand. The second is a ten step sequncer with a very basic square wave VCO. I did build three steps of addition master voltage control which you can see me triggering with the blue buttons with my right hand.

Before I started to take componants off the breadboard and put them into a dedicated enclosure I thought I would see if I could make noise that somewhat resmbled music with homemade electronic instruments.

I got close but in the end I dont think a ten step sequencer is a very musical design."

musical synth R&D

YouTube via nathanielscott
"The first device is an Optical Theremin, and is a Forrest Mims design. The second device is a bent design of Mim's. The last third of the video shows a 10 step sequencer which is where I will be spending more time trying to develop it into a viable performance device.

I have been toying with the idea of building a modular synthesizer. I was fortunate enough to have had access to a minimoog for a year and I am a huge fan of that design but would like a system that is more modular.

I have started by building some very basic ocillators and sequencers, as you can see. I am using Radio Shack Electronic Project Kit 150 in 1, and the Radio Shack Electronic Learning Lab to learn the the basics. So far so good."

"I want very much to see if we can use this on the next album... How rad would that be?!
: )

My dad and step-mom gave me two Radio Shack TRS-80 Color Computers they had cleaned out of their garage, complete with games and disk drives, etc... The best part: They still work! : )"

Anyone know more about this one? Specs and what technology it used?

Moog Realistic Concertmate MG-1: Killer Syth for Radio Shack

YouTube via gearwire
"Nowadays, Radio Shack has earned itself a rep for selling musical products that no serious musician would touch with a ten foot pole lest he or she be ridiculed beyond belief by his or her smarmy musician friends. Though Moog manufactured the Concertmate MG-1 for Radio Shack, it lives up to the Moog name, so anyone who ridicules you for it is committing blasphemy.

Dan Marshall from RedNails gives us a walkthru of the instrument, its capabilities, its quirks and its sound.

See more on Gearwire.com."
