Synthwood Pro One Prototype #3

"So basically the two prototypes #1 and #2 were scrapped. The third one which was supposed to be production #1 has now been corrected and renumbered as prototype #3 and was fitted onto Mike McKnight's rev 1.2 Pro-One. This synth will also be featured in the September article. The rev 1.2 required a bit of restoral work on the PCB to get it functioning again.

We do the conversion (you send us your donor Pro-One) now for anyone who wants it $385 shipping included in the USA."

Synthwood Prophet 5 Case

"This is a special order for Mike McKnight of Keyboard Magazine. We completely restored his Prophet-5 all the way down to the solder traces. It is going to be featured in an article to be published in the September issue."

Sequential Circuits Prophet T8

Title link takes you to shots via this auction.

Note that in the last shot below those are not separate voice boards. That's one giant board. you can see the traces go through each voice section.

Details:
"This rare 8 voice (16 oscillator) synth has the latest 3.8 eprom update, as well as midi, polysequencer, polymod section, 76 note weighted action keyboard with attrack and release velocity, and aftertouch (polyphonic pressure). Same keyboard as used on the Synclavier. The T8 holds 120 patch/programs. It will split or layer programs or play all 16 oscillators in unison. This T8 was hard calibrated several years ago and autotunes perfectly in tune across the whole keyboard. Every key is pearly white (or black), sits even and works correctly with exception of one key which only needs counter weight adjustment. This one key does work completely with respect to all functions like velocity, AT, RV. There are slight variations in response between keys which is typical for the T8."

Suzanne Ciani on David Letterman

YouTube via specialkvi. Sent my way via Lars.
"After Suzanne's huge success of creating sound effects for the disco version of "Star Wars," she appeared on the David Letterman Show when originally broadcasted on NBC.

Let's watch the little "voice distorter" bring laughter to the audience. It was produced on August 14, 1980. We are sure that Suzanne will share some insight of her nine minutes of late-night fame."
Update: uploaded by Suzanne Ciani here.

The Definitive Sequential Circuits Prophet-5 Rev1 vs Rev3 Test

"Since the introduction of the Prophet-5 Rev 3 a legend or myth has perpetuated that
the SSM based Prophet-5 Rev 1 and Rev 2 are sonically superior to their CEM based,
and much more prolific successor, the Rev 3. In this experiment I intend to
demonstrate the sonic similarities and subtle differences between the revs using
similar manual mode patches that define the sound of the PROPHET-5."

Live in the studio 1989

YouTube via studio35d. Via the Matrixsynth forum.

"Browsing through my archive of old material, I stumbled upon this interesting video. It was filmed somewhere in 1989 and 1990 by Robbert Schuller. Here you see me improvising with the Sequential Pro-One, Elka Synthex and Korg DSS-1. I have tried to correct the color and lightning digitally, as the Hi8 camera had some problems with low lightning apparently. No further editing has been made to the video. Other instruments that were present, but not used during the take are: Yamaha CS20M, Korg DDD1, Roland TR808, Korg Mono/Poly, Riha Adagio organ :-)"

Big Train Keith Emerson Sketch

YouTube via grebmops

Previously via loonytunes1234. Yes!!! I heard about this a while back and have been periodically checking YouTube for it. Looks like Loonytunes-Life The Universe And Everything put it up. Awesome. BTW, if you like this, be sure to check out Big Train's cover of Roxy Music's Virginia Plain here, then search YouTube for Big Train in general.

Sequential Circuits Prophet T8

Title link takes you to shots via this auction. Not the biggest shots, but you don't see these often. If you are considering this or any other action I post, ALWAYS be sure to read the auction details in full. I only post the bits that interest me here and I DO NOT police auctions. Always check the comments to see what others say.

Details:
"This was the flagship of the SCI line and their last (and greatest analog synthesizer). Apparently, there were only 500 units produced before the project was shelved due to competition from the much cheaper Yamaha DX-7. I am the second owner of this synth. It has been gently used in my smoke-free studio.

Brief specs:
- 8 voices
- 2 VCO's per voice
- Classic SCI Poly-Mod section
- MIDI control of various parameters through velocity and/or pressure modulation
- Semi-weighted keys
- Velocity and aftertouch (The Prophet T8 was renowned for its pioneering system of aftertouch)
- Single, Split, an Double modes- The T8 can be played as a single synth (one patch), two separate synths (upper and lower patches), or two patches can be played at once"

the twins

YouTube via attilasimon. Via sequencer.de.
Sequential Circuits Prophet 5 and I'm guessing Simmons electronic drums. His voice reminds me of Gary Numan. I never heard of The Twins in the 80s. Thompson Twins yes, but not The Twins.

Sequential Circuits Prophet 5

Title link takes you to shots via this auction. Note the switches on the top right.
Details:
"Sequential Circuits Prophet 5, serial 0074 (Rev 1). There were only 182 Rev 1's made, many of which were returned to Sequential when the Rev 2 came out. Nowadays, there are probably less than a couple dozen working Rev 1 Prophet 5 keyboards in the world.

It's a fantastic sounding synthesizer - I've compared it directly with the Rev 3 (the majority of the Prophet 5's) and it's distinctly warmer and the resonance is more musical. It instantly recalls the classic soundtracks that the Rev 1 and Rev 2 keyboards were responsible for during the late 70's. It's a classy looking synthesizer as well. While there are a few scratches and marks, it's in remarkable condition considering it's 30 years old.

I had it serviced in August 2006: the battery was replaced, it was recapped, and had general maintenance performed. It's been solid ever since - I've kept it in a clean studio environment and have not gigged it. All 5 voices work, all knobs and buttons function, and all keys are responsive and extremely playable.

A previous owner modded it with 5 switches. These switches, along with the sequencer interface jacks, were disconnected at the recommendation of the service technician (they were interfering with the stability). The previous owner also added a cassette interface from a Rev 2, and it's working properly."

If anyone knows what the switches did, please comment.

Update on the mods:
"the CV/gate only control's voice 5. With this mod you can have each voice control (by the same CV/gate) .. so instead of getting a 2 OSC mono sound, you could get a 4 oscillator mono sound."
