Arturia MicroBrute filtering Roland TR-8, plus Coleco Talking Teacher

Published on Sep 24, 2014 Tony Horgan

"Here's a hard techno I jam recorded with a MicroBrute filtering a TR-8. A Coleco Talking Teacher (which is like a Speak & Spell) is also featured. The noise on the recording is mostly from the microphone, not the MicroBrute or the TR-8. Here the TR-8's sounds are split between the main outputs and one of the two assignable outputs, which is being sent to the MicroBrute. Most of the work on the MicroBrute controls is focused on the Filter, Cutoff and Brute Factor knobs."

"Here's my take on bending the Coleco Talking Teacher toy. Four bends have been added: short glitch loop, long glitch loop, unsteady long glitch loop, and pitch adjustment. A side cart was added to make room for the controls.

This is one of the most stable talking toys I have bent. The long and short loops are repeatable, so the glitches can be played like you would a drum machine. The sound is also very clear.

Speak and Spell Sell-Off

Pictured: a Circuit Bent Talking Teacher!

Kinda looks like a mini Haken Continuum.

Description:
"Up for auction is a circuit bent Coleco Talking teacher. His name is FREAKENTEACH. This unit is similar to the circuit bent (FREAKENSPEAK) Texas Instruments speak and spell/math/read. It can make amazing loops and bent sounds and random words. The unit will still function as a normal Talking Teacher unit when all the bend switches are in the "off" position.

I have been making strange electronic instruments and circuit bent creations for over 24 years. I have been selling on Ebay for 7 years. I only use high quality new switches, wire and other electronic components in my circuit bent units. So if you are looking for a quality circuit bent instrument, look no further, you have found it.

Here is a list of circuit bent controls:

1 loop switch that will "catch" a sound and repeat it. Endless loops to be discovered!!

1 loop advance pushbutton, push to advance to the next loop.

2 bend/glitch switches that bend the sounds and makes the unit spit out random words.

1 photo sensor with on/off switch, to vary the pitch when you move your hand over the sensor. It is similar to playing a theremin because you don't have to touch the sensor to change the pitch of the sound.

1 reset pushbutton to reset unit if it crashes.

1 volume pot to turn down the volume of the internal speaker.

1 pitch change pot to vary the pitch of the sound from high to low. The pitch of this unit goes way further down than any of the speak and spell/read/math units. Amazing low drones!

1 1/4" audio output to send the signal to FX or an amp. The internal speaker is switched off when the audio jack is plugged in.

1 brass knob for body contact. You can control the pitch of the sound by touching the pitch knob! Touch the holographic foil label with your other hand to drop the pitch even more.

1 pitch change holographic foil front label. One of the coolest features is the added pitch control that touching the holographic front label gives, you won't find this feature on any other bent unit, or as many ways to control the pitch.

This unit will work as normal with all bend switches off . It will work with 4 "C" batteries or with a 6 volt power adaptor.(not included) This unit is designed for live performance, but it also works great for recording sounds in the studio. It can make some amazing sounds and loops! It makes sounds that you can't get from any other instrument! It can sound like a theremin or a spaceman on speed! Great for techno, electronic music, sound FX."
