OAK Sampler - New Ensoniq ASR-10 Inspired Sampler Workstation Keyboard Synthesizer In the Works

video upload by oak sampler

Meet the upcoming "OAK-S37 Sampling Workstation" keyboard synthesizer.

Playlist with additional details:

1. OAK Sampler Sound Playback and Effects Test
I absolutely love the ASR-10. I’m building a new hardware workstation inspired by the ASR-10 that runs the original OS , effects etc and replicates the HW in a modern form. There will be some updates on the project. This is the boot and general test. Potato speaker recording. #asr10 #90ssampling
2. OAK Sampler (ASR-10 in Hardware) Sequencing & Sample Editing
I love the ASR-10. I’m building a new hardware sampler inspired by the ASR-10. It can run the original Ensoniq ASR-10 OS and effects algorithms. This video shows sequencing and sample editing on the OAK Sampler.
3. OAK Sampler (ASR-10 in Hardware) vs ASR-10 Sound Comparison
This video compares the OAK-S37 and an the ASR-10 using the same sequence, individual samples, filters, envelopes, and effects.

I recreated “93 ’til Infinity” as a test project using identical files across both systems.

I intend to do a limited first run eventually (no dates yet).

4. OAK Sampler (ASR-10 in Hardware) Loading Original Ensoniq Sample CDs
In this video I load projects from the original ASR-10 Ensoniq Sample CD. It shows proper playback of the complex arrangements, accurate instruments and effects on the OAK. Totally 90’s.

Studio Essentials Vol. 1 CDR-3 Ensoniq Corp
5. OAK Sampler (ASR-10 in Hardware) vs ASR-10 Effects
In this video it’s shows an comparison of the OAK-S and ASR-10 internal effects.

The second half demonstrates live effects monitoring. One of my favorite ASR-10 features was using it as a real-time effects processor, and I wanted that preserved in the OAK-S. It uses effects from the Ensoniq CDR-3 CD banks

COMPUTALKER SPEECH SYNTHESIZER

You can find a demo of COMPUTALKER in this previous post from back in 2008.

Here are some pics and additional info on the COMPUTALKER via this reddit thread where you'll find a dropbox link to additional docs including some source code. Note the poster on reddit is looking for help on gettig it going. If you can help, reach out there.

This one was spotted and sent in via
M Me who also found some addtional info here.

From the reddit thread:

"The Computalker CT-1 was one of the earliest commercially available speech synthesizers for personal computers. Introduced in late 1976 and shipped beginning in 1977, it was developed by D. Lloyd Rice and Jim Cooper in Santa Monica, California through their company, Computalker Consultants.

Unlike simpler speech devices that played back recorded sounds, the CT-1 was a 9-parameter formant speech synthesizer. A host computer generated control data describing pitch, formant frequencies, fricatives, aspiration, and other speech characteristics, while the CT-1 generated the actual voice waveform in hardware."

"My goal, (which I do think may end up being completely impossible) is to get this up and running and hear it speak. Among the photos, there are some shots of the inside. I understand that this was originally designed for the S-100 bus going as far back as the Altair 8800. Serial number inside and out is 7001 and I can see that a previous owner likely replaced the older capacitors already.

This variant however, In all my searching I cannot seem to find a single reference to anywhere. My best guess with the information I have is that this could be a prototype version that was meant for later computers and perhaps it's missing some type of interface card for maybe an Apple II or TRS-80?

Here is a dropbox link to all of the information I have collected so far. I have found the manual, the software manual (With source code?!) and all sorts of little information. Also there's a lot more photos....

https://www.dropbox.com...

Maybe someone out there has seen this before? I am super excited to keep collecting information on this! Thank you for checking this out!"

He Sent His LinnDrum to Bruce Forat... Here's What Happened

video upload by Brian Coyne Guitar

"I bought this 1983 LinnDrum on eBay, and after only a couple of weeks it started acting up. That's when I reached out to legendary LinnDrum expert Bruce Forat of Forat Electronics.

In this video, I document the entire experience—from Bruce's own recommendations on how to safely package and ship a vintage LinnDrum, to the repairs and maintenance he performed, to the way he carefully packed and shipped it back to me.

If you own a LinnDrum, Drumtraks, Oberheim DX, or any other vintage drum machine, you'll definitely want to hear Bruce's advice on shipping these rare machines safely. One careless shipment can cause thousands of dollars worth of damage.

Along the way, I'll show:
• How Bruce recommends packing a LinnDrum for shipment
• The repairs and maintenance Bruce performed
• How the LinnDrum looked when it returned
• Why Bruce Forat remains one of the most respected names in the LinnDrum world

A huge thank you to Bruce Forat for keeping these classic machines alive for future generations of musicians."

Oberheim DX Full Restoration: How to Add MIDI, Upgrade RAM & Play Live

video upload by Nostalgic Explorer

"If you want to see how the Oberheim DX looks from the inside, how to clean the buttons, how to upgrade the RAM, and how to add MIDI to this classic drum machine, you're in the right place.

This machine came to me in pretty bad shape. Dirty on the outside, with some faulty buttons, and in serious need of some love. But honestly? It's not that hard to bring one of these back to life if you're careful and you enjoy working with vintage gear. And if you don't — stick around anyway, because it's super interesting to see these machines from the inside.

I'm walking you through the full process: deep cleaning, how to remove and clean the button contacts the right way (spoiler: cleaning the surface does nothing — you need to go under them), installing the Electrongate MIDI board and RAM upgrade so you don't need a battery anymore, and swapping the plastic panels for the beautiful wooden ones from Electrongate.

Big shoutout to Paul White, whose Electrongate videos were a huge reference for this build. I'm just a student passing the knowledge forward — go check his page, I'll leave the links below.

Once everything was back together and fully working, I put on a jacket — because if I'm performing original music for you, you deserve some respect — and played a live jam using the restored Oberheim DX, the Oberheim DMX, Moog Voyager, Rhodes Mark I, Oberheim Matrix 6R, Elektron Digitakt, and the Roland Space Echo RE-201."

Rick Wakeman's Polymoog 203a Restoration

video upload by synthpro

"Hey Guys,
In this video I take you through the restoration of Rick Wakeman's Old Polymoog that now belongs to Steve. (he purchased it from Rick and has a letter of authenticity) I preserved some areas while completely restoring and servicing others to keep this a historical unit but also very much usable.

This unit in particular would have been used on the YES album, 'Going For The One'.

Needless to say this was a very exciting project for me growing up listening to Rick Wakeman/YES as well as my appreciation for Dr. Dave Luce and the Polymoog.

Special thanks to Steve for giving me the opportunity to work on this Polymoog!

Thank you Rick Wakeman, for all the inspiration you gave me as well as million of others through your music and performances.

Sincerely,
Jareth

P.S- here are a few videos with Rick and the Polymoog:"

"This classic Juno 106 is in great cosmetic and operational condition. ALL voice / filter chips are working proper without any issues we we had them professionally replaced / installed by with Double Heart Audio Voice Chips (which are simply the best) this month. This synth was bought in the late 80s for a studio where it was used on many sessions. Always taken care of. Battery Voltage was checked and in spec, power supply checked and in spec. It was also fully calibrated. It is ready for years and decades of use.. ready for any synth lover's rig. We are pricing it pretty low considering it has the complete voice chip upgrade. And as you can see from the pics.. it looks amazing as well.. very well kept.. never gigged live!

Synclavier II Hardware In 2 Minutes

video upload by Synclav com

"This is year number 27 for Synhouse.

Synhouse has fully restored and shipped many, many dozens of systems in the last three decades and this work continues in 2026.

Shown here is the testing of a Synclavier computer bin card set without needing the synthesizer voices yet (it ended up with 8 original style mono Synclavier II synthesizer voices). This Control Unit is used as a test box at Synhouse. Once testing was completed, the cards were moved to a freshly restored ATS 3-level enclosure chosen by the client.

Relatively few Synclavier IIs were made, and this is the super vintage hardware setup.

Synhouse stocks these systems and parts and Synhouse manufactures this hardware and has them in the Synclavier store on the Synclav.com website.
