SYNTHBOY+ Special Edition From Ninstrument

Published on Jun 28, 2016 Ninstrument.com

"SKIP TO 3:15 for audio demo only!"

via Ninstrument

The CLOCK OUT modification is the newest feature of the Synthboy+. This is included with our Special Edition model. The CLOCK OUT is a voltage out that can be used directly with most modular synthesizers. This clock out can be modified on the fly using the bottom two knobs on the front of the base station. This is used directly with LSDJ. Please watch the video for more details of use.

Our BIG BONUS is the included heavily modified Gameboy Color. Over the last few years I have grown to really appreciate the reliability and speed the Gameboy Color provides. I truly believe it is the best tool to use with LSDJ. The original Gameboy Color did need a couple of modifications in order to bring it into the Synthboy+ line. First we added a front light SP mod, which essentially takes the front light out of a Gameboy SP, cut it to size and fit it which allows a overall brighter screen for daily use.

The real challenge was to find a way to add the 9 pin din connector. We ended up custom molding a new bottom using Polyester resin. Between the nylon DB9 connector and polyester resin molding you can expect durable use over the years."

Synthboy+ Trigger Riot

Published on Aug 4, 2013 deathstarchris·19 videos

"The Trigger Riot from Tiptop Audio works great with the Synthboy+. The 'Matrix' mode allows quick creative fills while 'independent' mode is great for beat creation. In this video I switch between both modes regularly. Great piece of trigger kit! 100% Nintendo sound. More info about Synthboy+ can be found here: www.Ninstrument.com"

Improv SYNTHBOY+ MOD3

Published on Jul 26, 2013 deathstarchris·18 videos

"Had a chance to sit down with some euro modular gear and push a couple of Synthboy+'s with the MOD3 upgrade. I used the new 'Clock Synced LFO' from www.ginkosynthese.com to control timing and also for those crazy timing changes. The rest of the gear is from Pittsburgh Modular. Includes the modules 'timetable', 'vcbend', 'sequencers' and 'adsr'. MOD3 is very responsive to analog gear. For more info on Synthboy+ MOD3, here is a link:

SYNTHBOY+ MOD3

Published on Jul 21, 2013 deathstarchris·17 videos

"MOD3 adds CV/Gate input to the Synthboy+. More basic info about the Synthboy+ can be found in this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TxZ4J6...
More info about MOD3 specifically can be found here: http://www.ninstrument.com/?page_id=1260
As always, please visit Ninstrument.com for info about all of our fun developments!"

"Ever since the start of the Synthboy+ project I had MOD3 in mind. If you go back to the original Kickstarter video, you will even hear me mention it. Now that we have successfully made it through the Kickstarter phase, I’m excited to show the work and resources that we have reinvested back into the project.

After trying a CV/Gate to MIDI interface with the Synthboy+, I found many problems that just had to be fixed in order for CV/Gate to be truly useful. We focused on finding the little and large inaccuracies that plagued the other converter and we also added a few unique features that don’t exist anywhere else. FieldingBlue (Our Developer) also spent a considerable amount of time working on a bullet proof error checking process, and it shows. While there are a few limitations with the first gen Gameboy, we squeeze as much performance as possible to get those authentic modulated Nintendo sounds!.."

Ninstrument Synthboy+ Now Available

Ninstrument wrote in to let us know that the Synthboy+ Kickstarter project posted here back in June was a success!

"We opened the webstore to the public today. We only have a few items available, so I thought I would let the die hard fans at matrixsynth know first. Here is the link. Every penny in profit goes right back into product development. Attached pics are of the very rare and hard to find White Gameboy. We made a very special Synthboy+ (We call it the Unicorn) to mark the occasion.

Thank you for all of your support."

Absolute Extremes MCBC-01 Moog Circuit Bending Akai S01

From the creators of the Ninstrument & SYNTHBOY+, Absolute Extremes brings us the MCBC-01 custom bent Akai S01 with Keith McMillen QuNeo & iPad dock (click through for more pics).

"Josh Felice and I saw the next Moog Circuit Bending Challenge and Josh suggested we enter in a custom version of the bent Akai S01 that I had done before. (Scroll down to see the original) Credit goes to Circuitbenders.co.uk for first inventing this bend. We took the original bent design and disseminated the best bends and added a few more cool and crazy features. First we have introduced a couple of square clocks that actually feed directly into the ram causing all sorts of mayhem and the other feature was to include a dock feature that would allow midi control from an iPad or QuNeo. You can also sample Animoog straight from the iPad too! I chose to design in hardwood to pay tribute to Moog and their designs. It was a lot of fun working in wood for a change. Video coming soon!"

CNC Routing ABS Enclosure - SYNTHBOY+

YouTube Published on Aug 11, 2012 by deathstarchris

"Here is a quick video showing the jig and the process in which I cut the holes in the top ABS enclosure. After each piece is cut, I take calipers and measure all cuts to ensure the highest quality. In this video I also show a sneak peak of MOD2. I use NeX's GBLFO, MOD1 and now MOD2 working in unison. For more information, visit our site at www.Ninstrument.com."

SYNTHBOY+ Interface Dock for Nintendo Gameboy

"Dust off that first gen Gameboy as we have a very cool interface dock that converts the handheld gaming system into a state of the art 8 bit sound machine. There is a growing community of musicians and audio artists that are using these old gaming system sounds. We have used some of the achievements from the 8 bit community and created the SYNTHBOY+. Easy to plug into your mixer or home stereo with all of the various outputs. Midi IN/OUT makes it easy to connect to almost any keyboard. We have a limited number of units available on Kickstarter.com.

So please grab one and support the effort to save these older gaming systems and rock out to some old school Tetris sounds. This is recycling at its best. We really wanted everyone to be able to get one of these, so we went smaller and more affordable. You can even send in your working Gameboy and we will modify it for you. Thank you for your time and I hope you love the old gaming system sounds as much as we do."
