99 Old and New

YouTube Uploaded by 7thDanSound on Nov 29, 2011

"Something old, something new. This video features a lovely old radio that we were given by my girlfriends grandma a few years back. They were the original owners and the thing is in near mint condition. I love it to death and really enjoy listening to it. I use a small FM transmitter to unintrusively get sounds into the machine, sometimes just from Spotify, this time from the Buchla. It's my girlfriend playing the 222e.

I really hope the nice sound of the radio can be heard! I used a hand held recorder to get the sound from the air so to speak.

35 Q119 Analog Sequencer Showcase

YouTube via 7thDanSound | January 03, 2011 |

"This is a showcase of the synthesizers.com Q119 analog sequencer. Analog sequencers are fun and useful, especially if they are as capable as this one with quite a few different options for modulations. I show how to use the different outputs of the sequencer for different purposes and how to use the clock input for speed manipulation. I also show a "secret" mode!"

18 Midibox SID Selected Patches

YouTube via 7thDanSound | November 08, 2010

"These are a few of the fun patches I found in the MidiBox SID I just got. I thought I'd show them off because I just can't get enough of that SID sound."

Buchla and MonoMachine as looper

YouTube Uploaded by 7thDanSound on Aug 17, 2011

"Using the MonoMachine as a looper with the Buchla. I took one channel and put a very long delay on it with almost unity gain feedback. As you can hear there's a lot of bit crushing going on as I guess they didn't put enough memory into it to do this. Maybe I'll have to get the Octatrack. There's about 40 minutes of audio recorded but for now you'll have to mail me to get it.

49 TB303 Square Impersonation

YouTube via 7thDanSound | Feb 24, 2011 |

"The envelopes of the synthesizers.com system can be used as audio waves if trigged from an oscillator. This yields short spikes with a special sound. If you take to and invert one you get pretty close to a TB303 square wave."

47 Dual Angry Vintage Model D MiniMoogs

YouTube via 7thDanSound | February 17, 2011 |

"Patching up massive control from the modular to a MiniMoog to get angry sounds out of it is something of a hobby of mine. I've done it before. Not with two MiniMoogs however! Well now I have. But watching something like that is kind of boring so I made a stop motion kind of thing out of it instead. It's my first attempt but I like it. Takes a heck of a long time to make though. Enjoy!"

YouTube Uploaded by 7thDanSound on Jul 22, 2011

"I had a friend over to look at the Modcan and Buchla. I shot videos of the patches that we made and that I liked. Please excuse the hand held footage, no time to mount the camera :)

Wind Chimes

Wind Chimes from 7thDanSound on Vimeo.

"I've been thinking about a wind chime patch for quite a while. Thought the new .com quantizers might help me so I made my first try tonight. I'm not entirely happy but it's a start. I guess getting the proper randomness is the hardest part. Getting quite the right sound isn't easy either, best is the MiniMoog in this piece, then the SEM and last, unexpectedly the .com modular."

93 Animmoog Chip Improv

YouTube Uploaded by 7thDanSound on Oct 24, 2011

"Jamming with the Animoog to a little chip tune inspired thing I whipped up for the occasion. Not the best of players but the keys on the Animoog app really help. Most fun I've had with an iPad music app so far.

17 MS20 Style Filtering

YouTube via 7thDanSound | November 04, 2010

"This video shows two synthesizers.com multimode filters connected in series, one in high pass mode and one in low pass mode. This creates a band pass filter but with variable width!"

33 Boolean Logic

YouTube via 7thDanSound | December 27, 2010 |

"This video shows how to use regular modules to achieve boolean logic, that is AND/OR and stuff like that. I even get an XOR in the end but I get the explanation a bit confused. If you need more details email me niklas@7thdan.com"

Buchla Modules Unpacking

YouTube Uploaded by 7thDanSound on Apr 11, 2011

"I got my first ever shipment from Buchla and Associates today and it was such a nice experience I thought I'd share even though unpacking videos aren't really that exciting. The thing is it came quickly, was very well packed and surprised me by containing a bunch of free patch cables I really didn't expect to find inside! Extremely nice of B&A, thanks very much!"

95 Buchla 250e And 227e

YouTube Uploaded by 7thDanSound on Nov 7, 2011

"In trying to get to know the new modules of my Buchla I decided to try something I've wanted to do for a long time, use voltage to address a sequencer. It's a very flexible way to get more out of 16 steps than one first might think. So I use te 250e in strobed voltage address mode, that is whenever it receives a pulse it jumps to the step corresponding to the current address voltage. By carefully adjusting the timing of the address voltage and the timing of the strobe pulse I get a pattern that takes a number of steps to repeat itself, thus making those 16 steps sound like many more.

I also use the 227e system interface to fade in and out of effects. Using the rear channels as dry and the front channels as wet you can get both stereo fading and effects fading at the same time. It's like voltage controlled effects on the whole mix coming out of the synth.

MATRIXSYNTH Card in the Wild

Pic in via 7thDanSound whose videos are frequently featured here.

New cards and magnets are in. These are somewhat of a limited run. Out of 3000 cards printed only 1000 or so met the bar and I had to go through three printers to finally get them. The green fluorescent ink and extra gloss coating required a special printing process. They were pricey and difficult to make due to the black being less forgiving. Because of this future batches will probably not have the extra coating.

RingingFilterKick

YouTube via 7thDanSound | September 21, 2010

"Episode 5 shows how to create a kick drum using just a filter. The trick is to tweak the filter close to self oscillation and then excite it with a short sound like click or pulse. The filter will go into oscillation but the regeneration (resonance) will not be enough to sustain the oscillation more than a short while."

65 Pseudo Delay Buchla Style Tutorial

YouTube Uploaded by 7thDanSound on Apr 20, 2011

"Revisiting the old pseudo delay trick from Episode 19 but in Buchla style this time. Takes less cables :) I walk you through the whole thing step by step. Also, the lopass gates really lend themselves to this task, even in gate mode. There is room for experimentation in this patch for sure!"

14 STG Post Lawsuit Lowpass showcase

YouTube via 7thDanSound | October 27, 2010

"This video is a show case of the STG Soundlabs Post Lawsuit Low Pass Filter based on an old ARP filter. I like the sound of it and wanted to show you some of it's characteristics. I play simple single oscillator wave forms through it and fiddle the knobs. No cool trick this time :)"

37 MiniMoog Testing

YouTube via 7thDanSound | January 11, 2011 |

"I just bought another vintage MiniMoog Model D and thought I'd do a video while testing that everything works. It turned out a decent walk through of quite a few of the sounds a MiniMoog can make.

I don't really know if one "needs" two MiniMoog but the price was right so I kind of had to. Also, I think there are some cool things that can be done with two Minis I suppose :) So keep an eye open for that!"
