Sequential Introduces Fourm: A Four-Voice Analog Synth with Polyphonic Aftertouch

A New Fourm of Expression

San Francisco, CA — September 23, 2025 — Sequential has announced the release of its most affordable, synthesizer to date. Fourm is a compact, 100% analog instrument that redefines expressive electronic performance. With its warm, organic tone, hands-on modulation routing, and a uniquely responsive polyphonic aftertouch keyboard, Fourm is ready to bring your musical ideas to life.

At its core, Fourm delivers four analog voices of genuine Sequential sound, derived from the legendary Prophet-5 — complete with dual oscillators, a classic 4-pole lowpass filter, and envelope curves modeled after the 1978 original. The result is unmistakable Sequential warmth and punch, now with overdriven feedback for a performance-ready edge.

For the first time in 40 years, Sequential has returned to polyphonic aftertouch. The team developed the new Tactive™ slim-keys poly AT keybed to work in concert with Fourm’s analog synthesis engine. Every element was co-designed and precisely calibrated to unlock new levels of expression, enabling a deeper connection to our signature sound that no off-the-shelf keybed could deliver. The result is a more expressive bond between player and instrument, energizing new modes of creativity.

"Fourm into Microcosm into Digitakt II – how I built a beat from nothing, faster than I expected.

In this video I build a beat from scratch using a brand-new setup: Sequential Fourm into Hologram Microcosm, captured and shaped on the Digitakt II.

Instead of treating effects as something you add at the end, I’m using the Microcosm as an idea generator - letting it transform a simple init patch into something that suggests harmony, rhythm, and direction very early on.

This is the first time I’ve made a track with this exact setup, and I was honestly surprised by how quickly it led to usable musical ideas.

The goal here isn’t to finish a track. It’s to show how I like to start - how I go from nothing to a beat that feels worth exploring further.

If you’ve ever felt stuck looping the same pattern without knowing where to take it next, this video sets up the foundation for what comes after. I’ll continue from this exact loop in the next video, where I focus on breaking out of the single-loop deadlock and opening things up into multiple patterns and directions."

Instead of a traditional review of the Sequential Fourm, we decided to take a different approach: putting it to work on a specific track. And not just any track: "Fade to Grey" by Visage—an absolute classic of 1980s British synth-pop. Every melodic and accompanying track you’re about to hear was created exclusively using the Fourm, starting from factory sounds (drawn from the approximately 300 initial presets) with only minimal tweaks. The only element not provided by the synth is the drums: an AI-generated Roland CR-78-style pattern, occasionally reinforced with a kick and snare from Logic’s sound library.

Along the way, Pablo demonstrates how to truly harness the power of a modern polyphonic analog synthesizer: polyphonic aftertouch (key for the lead vocal line, where some notes come alive while others fade out completely), intense mixer feedback (ranging from subtle thickening to nonlinear behavior with "ghost" harmonics), audio-rate filter modulation from Oscillator 2 (adding anything from brightness and vocal-like character to total sonic breakdown, depending on the intensity), glide for creating transition sweeps, and the LFO in random mode feeding the filter to ensure every note sounds unique.

We also cover specific recording techniques: layering basslines via MIDI using two different sounds and panning them; doubling hand-played pads so that the two takes aren't identical; and recording a MIDI pattern to free up both hands, allowing you to perform real-time timbral tweaks—adjusting the filter, resonance, and modulation intensity—during the actual audio recording.

This Synth Has Soul – Sequential Fourm Ambient Performance

"I didn’t expect a dry, mono analog synth to sound alive. But the Sequential Fourm has something different - I'd go as far as saying it has a soul.

This performance is completely free-form: no tempo, no MIDI. I built a flute-like patch that reacts to touch in unpredictable, musical ways and just recorded it in one take. It's using polyphonic aftertouch, but there's something else going on that seems to come from the filter feedback and envelope.

Reverb and delay were added in Ableton to bring it all to life. I then recorded a couple of other layers in the same way, all from the Fourm.

This patch is utilising so many of the new features Sequential have added to this release. Thru Zero FM/AM, Stepped Mod Sequencing per note played, Poly aftertouch, and it can take a sound from what sounds like an interesting keys/bells type sound, to something completely more complex and textured.

I am really enjoying programming the Fourm ‪@SequentialLLC‬ have done a great job with this synth!
