Lunetta 1, first test
YouTube via JvGrieken — June 09, 2010 —
"This is the first run of my lunetta, a simple cmos modular synth. What you see left to right: 4040 divider, 4051 multiplexer and a 40106 quad squarewave oscilator.

Lunetta 1: trying to play the machine
JvGrieken — June 09, 2010 —
"Attempt at playing the thing, although it feels more like it's playing itself :). What you see left to right: 4040 divider, 4051 multiplexer and a 40106 quad squarewave oscilator."
Lunetta 1, adding a shift register and DAC
JvGrieken — June 12, 2010 —
"I've added a 4015 dual shift register to the board and used a breadboarded r2r ladder and VCO to try making some melody. Not really happy with the results yet, but a better VCO might do the trick."

The mini Organ Dronor
Published on Jan 30, 2014 JvGrieken·42 videos
"The mini Organ Dronor is a smaller version of my Organ dronor design. No filters, no fuss, just raw analog droning fun. The pitch is controlled with the knob and the little black tube houses a light sensor wich controls the relative pitch between the oscillators."
Note: I created a JvGrieken label for posts moving forward. A search on JvGrieken will bring up prior posts.

4069 triangle LFO test
YouTube via JvGrieken | August 11, 2010
"This is the first test run of my new 4069 triangle LFO module. The right one on the video is connected to a 4046 VCO wich is fed directly into the speakers. The camera mic filters out all the high pitches but in real life the triangle gives a real smooth transition and goes down to 2 cycles per minute."

circuitbend tr-505
YouTube via JvGrieken | December 28, 2010 |
"An everlasting work in progress, bends so far:
-8 individual volume controls
-51 headerpins patchbay including synth sounds, sequencer glitches and drum rhytm glitches.
-6 patchable toggleswitches
-1 global pitchcontrol
-lcd spotlight and colourchanging led(not on the video)"

Light Noise
YouTube via JvGrieken | September 15, 2010
"This is the first test of a series Im working on for a school project. The series is about intuitive semi random musical devices wich will be controlled by a variety of natural and unnatural sources.
This first prototype is an effort to generate complex patterns sound patterns using light and basic electronics. It's based around two 40106 hexinverter cmos IC's with 12 Light controlled oscillators. They are all competing with eachother to produce a very wide range of sounds and patterns."

the mini Organ Dronor
Published on Feb 21, 2014 JvGrieken·43 videos
"I recorded a new video with much better sound. Now it finally sounds like it should.
now available at:

The power to drone, right in your hand! The mini Organ Dronor is a smaller version of the "Organ Dronor" analog drone system I've been developing over the last 2 years. Unlike most simple drone machines out there my design features a custom waveform which add a lot of interesting harmonics. For the controls it uses a single knob to set the overall frequency and a light sensor to control the relative frequency between the oscillators. This results in a very intuitive interface and allows for outside modulation using any light source.
Features
-Fully assembled and tested
-simple 9V battery operated (9v not included)
-small! just 5x5cm
-Light controlled droning
-standard 1/4″(6.35mm) output (different from the picture wich shows a 1/8″ jack)"

vegetable synth
YouTube via JvGrieken — April 05, 2010 — "HKU, Utrecht, Netherlands 27-03-2010
A short sequence of some people playing the vegetable synth. This is a project I made for experimental sculpture class in the first year fine arts at HKU. It's powered by an arduino and uses a max/msp patch for the sound. All the editing was done in final cut pro." via electro-music.com

the Organ Dronor
YouTube Uploaded by JvGrieken on Apr 28, 2011
"This project has been a long time coming, but the first prototype is finally done. Still some minor changes to be made, mainly around the filter and a CV input for the filter. Im currently developing a kit, contact me if you're interested.
-2 triangle oscillators with fine tune knob for those tearing slow drones.
-2 triangle LFO's with interchangable capacitors to set the range.
-LFO amount for both sides
-LED reflector rate indicators
-custom filter with resonance control
-on/off and volume
sorry for the bad video quality, my camera is old and doesn't like low lighting conditions. The audio was recorded raw into ableton live directly from the output without any filtering or effects."

Lunetta Workshop
YouTube via JvGrieken | February 09, 2011 |
"A workshop I gave as part of the seminar period at the HKU school for fine arts. 4 days of noise and experimenting with cmos chips, a great way to learn basic electronics and sound synthesis. The entire workshop is solder free with the use of electronic breadboards and simple basic components. We worked on a need to know basis so students would first make something and afterwards the underlying theory is explained.
Thanks to everyone involved and especially HKU for making it possible in the first place."

Lunetta1 using the patchable sequencer
YouTube via JvGrieken | July 17, 2010
"New module on the board and my first original design. It's a 8 step gating sequencer with patchbay. more info here: http://electro-music.com/forum/viewto...
In this clip it is used to play 3 different versions(2x XOR and 1xNAND gated output) of the melodygenerator in a sequence. Very rough with only resistor mixing into a stereo speakerset and directly recorded with camera"

the Insect Orchestra
YouTube Uploaded by JvGrieken on Aug 27, 2011
"This is a project I did for evaluation at HKU school of fine arts Utrecht. It uses an arduino to process the inputs from the light sensitive resistors and outputs it as a midi message. Software on the computer then turns this value into the corresponding note. All the sounds are made in Ableton Live and in the second part of the video you can hear the 4 different modes, instruments, synthesis, samples and drums."

YouTube via JvGrieken | August 12, 2010

The audio was recorded seperately in ableton live, no editing, just a springreverb effect added for a little depth."

Lunetta 1, starve pots LED show
YouTube via JvGrieken | July 01, 2010
"I've added some logic gates and the melodygenerator finally got off the breadboard and onto the main board.
What you see from left to right: 4040 divider(red), 4017/4051 Melodygenerator(blue), 4051 multiplexer(green), 4015 shift register(yellow), 4024 divider(red), 4011 NAND gate(yellow), 4030 XOR gate(yellow).
Outside of the picture there is a 40106 quad oscilator to provide the clocks and audio signals and there is 1 starve pot for the board and 1 for the quad oscilator on the breadboard.
The video is mostly a free running patch with me using the starve-pots to control the power to the board and oscilators, it gets a little wild sometimes :)"

Light sensing sequencer
YouTube via JvGrieken | January 19, 2011 |
"A project I did for halfterms at HKU 15-12-2010
The entire project works with analog electronics. I used an overhead projector to project the images on an 3m x 1,50m screen. Behind the screen are 8 seperate piramids capturing the light and converting it into a pitch, the less light, the higher the pitch. The 8 step sequencer runs through the pattern and plays the corresponding pitch. I also added a filter and a control panel for the tempo, pitch and filtersettings."
