Modular fun at Roth Händle Motm and com for Victoria Moralez

YouTube via RothHandle
"A little film of me mumbling around my Modular setup to try to record a sort of ambient blippy thing for a track by the very talented swedish artist Victoria Moralez. She is currently working on an album and wanted me to add some spaceyness and ambience to a track...

Matti Recording the Casio SK 1

YouTube via RothHandle
" We have now entered the second phase of the recordings for the theatrical production of Bröderna Lejonhjärta by Astrid Lindgren. Our first recordings were aimed towards the more serious sections of the production...Now we are working on the silly bits. Chaotic and collagey. Loads of Optigan stuff and autokomp.

Me and Matti have worked on a couple of different projects together. The first was playing live with Ingy.

This short little film was recorded at Roth Händle studios in Stockholm. This is where I work and record artists and groups. If you are curious to find out more about the studio please visit www.roth-handle.nu"

Soundtoys SuperPlate Styles

video uploads by soundtoys

The 5 styles of the new SuperPlate by Soundtoys.

Available now at www.soundtoys.com

See the announcement post here

"Take a look at all five plate reverb styles included in SuperPlate – each was inspired by an iconic plate. In the development of SuperPlate, Soundtoys added nine plates to their gear collection and spent seven years immersed in reverb, dreaming up the modern features that would reinvent this classic effect.

The reverb you hear in each video is entirely one of SuperPlate's styles. Explore the unique sonic character of each individual plate style."

Playlist:

1. Soundtoys SuperPlate: E. Plate III Style
The EcoPlate III (c. 1982) was the third and smallest version of the EcoPlate series of reverbs designed by Jim Cunningham. All three plates in the EcoPlate series use a stainless steel alloy to create its reverberation and all three versions have an exceptionally bright and spacious sound. Soundtoys studied and added an EcoPlate III to our gear collection for the development of SuperPlate. E. Plate III is just one of the five plate styles and many features included in Soundtoys' SuperPlate reverb plug-in.

2. Soundtoys SuperPlate: Classic 140 Style
SuperPlate's Classic 140 plate style is based on the EMT 140 (1957), the most well-known and the first commercially successful plate reverb. It was made by hanging a plate of cold-rolled steel in a metal frame, and as legend has it, the steel came from one specific Welsh ore mine. The EMT 140 was a studio standard for decades, and is what most people reference when they talk about plate reverb. Soundtoys studied and added five EMT 140 units to our gear collection for the development of SuperPlate. Classic 140 is just one of the five plate styles and many features included in Soundtoys' SuperPlate reverb plug-in.

3. Soundtoys SuperPlate: Audicon Style
“The Plate” (c. 1971) also known as the “Lawson Plate” was designed by Gene Lawson (Lawson Microphones) in Nashville to be a more economical plate reverb for those who couldn’t afford an original EMT 140. It was manufactured by console manufacturer Auditronics out of Memphis, Tennessee. Soundtoys studied and added "The Plate" to our gear collection for the development of SuperPlate. Audicon is just one of the five plate styles and many features included in Soundtoys' SuperPlate reverb plug-in.

4. Soundtoys SuperPlate: Stocktronics Style
The Stocktronics RX4000 (1978) is the only Swedish plate we know of, and it uses a steel alloy plate with low internal crystallic damping characteristics, which gives it a very distinctive extended high-frequency response. In other words, this plate has zing! While Soundtoys was unable to add the Stocktronics RX4000 to our gear collection, our study of the RX4000 was made possible by proud Stocktronics owners spanning two continents (if anyone is keen to sell, please call us!). Stocktronics is just one of the five plate styles and many features included in Soundtoys' SuperPlate reverb plug-in.

Sound design by Bryn Bliska – @brynbliska • www.brynbliska.com
Special thanks to Mattias Olsson at Roth Händle Studio for letting us access this impeccable Stocktronics RX4000 – @RothHandle
5. Soundtoys SuperPlate: Goldfoil 240 Style
SuperPlate's Goldfoil 240 plate style is based on the EMT 240 (1970). While technically not a plate at all, it was designed to create a more compact and portable reverb. Instead of a steel plate, the EMT 240 used a thin foil of 24-karat gold to create its distinctive darker and tighter sound. Soundtoys studied and added two EMT 240 units to our gear collection for the development of SuperPlate. Goldfoil 240 is just one of the five plate styles and many features included in Soundtoys' SuperPlate reverb plug-in.

Recording a song with only Mellotron sounds

YouTube via RothHandle. Parts 1 - 7
"A short series of films from my sessions recording music for a documentary on probably my favorite instrument, The Mellotron. The idea I had was to record music solely using the Mellotrons at the studio and the Rhythmate (more on that later). So far I have recorded two pieces and this is the third one.

My name is Mattias Olsson and I am a Swedish musician and producer. My studio is located in Stockholm, Sweden. I have collected weird and odd instruments for almost ten years now and the Mellotrons, Optigans and Pipeorgans have a tendency to show up on almost all of the albums I work with. It isn't a museum but an alive and creative workplace for bands and artists who want to record "real" sounds away from computers and digital synths.

I filmed it holding the camera with my left hand with my old sony digital camera and playing with me right hand. So if you find the camera technique annoying...blame me.

Finding the right euro rack filter for my rhythm

YouTube via RothHandle
"This film was made at Roth Händle studios. This is where I spend a lort of my days and nights recording and producing bands artist and with a bit of luck...music. I started out as a drummer in bands. Some of them were quite sucessful, in different ways. Other bands rehearsed a lot. Now I have a studio with weird and odd objects that either make or break sound. If you are curious to read about this studio please visit www.roth-handle.nu It is a fun packed site with rivetting articles about synthesizers and prog rock fashion."

Recording Oberheim DX for new Criborn track.

YouTube via RothHandle
"Today we started working on a new track for Niclas Criborns solo project. He said he wanted a slightly more harder electronic feel for the track. So I started off by taking out the Electribe and then I just felt it would be too simple...so I used the Oberheim DX instead. I hooked it up to the Roland Re-501, a moogerfooger analog delay and the sinister Sherman Filterbank MK I and then into a Urei compressor.

I think it turned out o.k.

This film was shot at my studio, Roth Händle. It is located in Stockholm Sweden and is available for sessions, or full productions. For more info please mumble by www.roth-handle.nu"

"Just got back from a trip to europe, and stayed with my friend Julius, one of my friends who records for Compost. He has done some pretty cool projects [building a VST interface to Kraftwerk pioneer Florian Schneider's most recent vocoder purchase] as well as creating his own VST plugins for Mac / PC called Kammerl Kaske [http://www.kammerl.de/audio] The details of the Florian Schneider project -- About 2 years ago, Florian put the original Kraftwerk vocoder for sale on eBay [quite possibly one of the rarest eBay sales ever, at least for music equipment]. It wasn't that Kraftwerk was getting out of 'vocoding' but rather, he found one of the earliest vocoder projects out there. A professor at a German university in the speech department was building a rather large rack of about 32 drawers of band-pass filters that were aimed to create at one point, a vocoder. As the professor passed away some time ago, the speech department was looking to part ways with the project and Florian had come into contact with the university. He made an offer, and they sold him the remnants. Now there's another friend of Julius' that creates some rather crafty devices known as SND, aka Sebastian Niessen. He's most known for his SAM-16 sequencer, fixed filter banks and other fun stuff. Sebastian engineered the hardware, and Julius designed the software, and the result is this So as some "parting gifts" / compensation, Sebastian received one of the first Kraftwerk speech synths, and Julius received ONE of the FOUR MIDI Robovox units."

Recording Persephone for Necromonkeys Dodo

Published on Jun 15, 2013 RothHandle·1,611 videos

"Hey hey,

Here is a couple of videos from yesterdays Necromonkey session. We stated trying to figure out the arangement on the fourth track on the next EP Glimpse but gave up due to "technical" difficulties.

So...we started working on a new track called "the mystery of Dodo". Its based on an inside and very private joke. With a bit of luck it wont be called that for long. The track is based around a piano part David wrote and then we worked on embellishing it with Electribe rhythms, Cembalo, Persephone, Chamberlin solo female voice and some orchestral percussion.

Right now we are not sure where it will end up on the eps but it will probably be the first as it has an almost intro like feel.

Necromonkey is a band consisting of David Lundberg and Mattias Olsson (that would be me). So far we have recorded one album called Necroplex. We are selling and distributing it ourselves in a very private way. If you want a copy please drop us a line at Necromonkeyness@gmail.com

This video was shot at Roth Händle studios. If you have questions about booking or recording dont hesitate to ask.

Thanks for watching,

Mattias"

Modular mischief number 2

YouTube via RothHandle
"This film was recorded at Roth Händle studos in Stockholm, Sweden. This is where I spend my days recording and producing artists...The studio started in my apartment and evolved slowly from there. This is the forth location of the studio. The first one obviously was at home...the second and third was at a abandoned shipyard outside of Stockholm. The studio works more or less in two ways either the artists come here to the studio or people send files that I work with...If you are curious to find out more about the studio please visit www.roth-handle.nu for more info, blogs and odd facts. Oh yes and now I am on facebook too with a dedicated roth händle site...I dont know how to link to it but you people are all so internet smart so you can find...if you want to.

Thanks for watching,

Körsbärsträdet Matti recording Vocoder plus VP 330+

YouTube via RothHandle. click here for more.
"Today was a great day in the sessions for our music for Bröderna Lejonhjärta. Why was it so great...well we had only goal which we actually achieved...we have this weird tendency to glide and start recording new pieces. So the goal was to record and do a rough mix of a son called körsbärsträdet, the cherry tree.

This is a film showing Matti recording the roland vocoder plus vp-330+

This film was shot at my studio, Roth Händle. It is located in Sundbyberg just outside of Stockholm. If you want to know more about the studio please visit www.roth-handle.nu It hasnt been updated for quite some time but its there anyway.

Thanks for watching,

Mattias"
