Joranalogue Audio Design / DRONE AND GRIT / eurorack patch

"I was asked once what I use for my drones. The answer is: I don't know. I've been thinking about it ever since, but I don't have a straighforward answer. What I do know is that for this soundscape/drone I used almost all the ‪@joranalogue‬ modules, with exception for the module that I'm sequencing COLLIDE 4 with (Discrete Map by NSI).

There's a lot of interesting tricks in this patch:
I used crossmodulation on the phase parameter between the two GENERATE 3s. The intensity is set by modulating the vcas for the harmonic inputs.
CYCLE 2 is doing some gated cycling, activated by an output of ORBIT 3 with an offset from BIAS 2.
ENHANCE 2 is creating a balanced stereo image from two inputs: the dry signal patched to the MID input and the delayed signal (DELAY 1) patched to the SIDE input.
COLLIDE 4 output stage is used to slightly slew the melody for the main drone while the input stage is used as a pinged filter with some amplitude modulation.
CYCLE 5 is used as a dirty subbass... It's both getting synced by one of the G3s as receiving some fm from the other G3. FILTER 8s resonance is begin modulation as well as its frequency.
ORBIT 3 is used for all the modulation.
One of ORBIT 3s outputs is routed through FOLD 6 to create a more intense modulation for the time parameter on DELAY 1."

"Apart from the bass (CYCLE 5) I'm not using any Joranalogue modules for sound generation... but all of the modulation, a lot of the sequencing and triggers are made with, processed by or routed through the Joranalogue modules. They truly are kings of utility (and more). I think it's fair to mention that I used quite a bunch of Schlappi modules for the transposition of the chords as well as Discrete Map by New Systems Instruments for the sequencing of the root of the chord as well as the main clock of the patch."

The resonance response is exceptionally smooth—and it can easily reach self-oscillation. In this mode, temperature-compensation and exact calibration make Flow 3 a reliable quadrature sine/cosine oscillator with tight pitch tracking.

Patching Exciting Modulation for Filters // FIRST PATCH with Swell from Bartola Instruments

"Here we have the new Swell Eurorack filter and valve gain stage from Bartola Instruments. We'll be exploring this in the usual in depth DivKid demo style in the future but wanted to share our literal first patch playing around with saturating, character oozing valve distortion and filtering ... and in doing so, share some modulation tips about how we like to patch modulation, mixing sources and making things feel exciting and dynamic. I hope the patch notes below are useful and let us know what you'd like to see more of with Swell."

"*PATCH NOTES*

The simple bit first - AUDIO PATH - two saw wave oscillators, changing the octaves between them at points, mixed into 'Swell' and then output into some stereo FX for background ambience.

The modulation is where this gets exciting going into the FM input (which modules filter cut off frequency) is my main envelope, a simple decay envelope. Resonance is modulated by a step sequence (external attenuation is the key here). Then the v/oct input is used as a place to input a mix of modulation. The first is an accent envelope, patching a less dense gate rhythm into a second envelope and patching that into a mixer. Then outputting the mixer into the v/oct input of the filter. The second is then the same step sequence as the resonance.

So with the mixer into the v/oct and the FM input I have 3 modulation sources modulating the filter frequency - main envelope, accent envelope & step sequence.
