"The Midimini was Studio Electronics' first series of synthesizers built from scratch. Prior to the Midimini was the Midimoog, which consisted of actual Minimoog circuit boards retrofitted into a rackmount enclosure. The Midimini does not use the original Moog circuit boards, but instead Studio Electronics designed their own boards. Minimoog users will find the layout to be quite familiar with some nice additions such as a dedicated modulation LFO, oscillator sync and switches for aftertouch control. This unit is in very good condition with a bit of rack rash on the top and bottom. If you are looking for that classic MiniMoog tone, wicked huge basses and leads.. This box delivers!"
"As these are quite rare I thought I would make a video while I was testing this one after a repair and service. It is basically a minimoog in a rack with midi and more features - sounds great... played from my trusty and rather dusty Arturia Keystep. Please click thru to get the various tones as this is quite a long video for Minimoog fans and nerds."
Pics of the inside below. You can see the original Moog boards.
"Studio Electronics MidiMoog! Rackmount Minimoog made with original late-60's Moog Minimoog cards (not to be confused with the Studio Electronics MidiMini which does not utilize original Moog cards). This sounds incredible. The analog depth and character here cannot be matched w/ a plugin or modern alternative!
Not pictured, but included, is a 1U Studio Electronics rack unit which supplies MIDI connectivity and tuning control. A cable is included to connect the MidiMoog to this rack unit."
"This vintage Midimini by SE sounds big and bold just like the OG. This has the SE boards- recently cleaned and calibrated ... it holds tune like champ and no drift!
Get that Minimoog sound in a small door print by the best in the business, other than the "older" Moog.
The bottom right corner is slightly bent, it can still be racked and solid but this might not allow you to use all 4 screws, see pic. No other issues!"
"MIDIMOOG original early release: Minimoog boards inside by Studio Electronics with the BEST hi quality discrete componets (Old surplus USA military furniture)
Not to be confused with the new version, this is the absolute top and sounds amazing, same as RA Moog (same US surplus components inside)."
"It is essentially an original Model D with some added functionality like MIDI, LFO, etc. The VCO board must be a Studio Electronic board but not so sure about the power supply and VCF/VCA boards; check out the photos for reference. It sounds amazing at any rate, just like an original Mini."
"More than a Minimoog. The Midimini V30 is Studio electronic's Minimoog inspired rack mountable synth with a few added extras. They have been modding Minimoogs and building MIDI rack mounted Midiminis for longer than Moog in it's current form (after liquidation in the 80s Moog wasn't around for a while).
The Midimini is sonically the same as a Minimoog, a sonic pallet we are all familiar with, so in this video I concentrate on the places the Minimoog can't tread."
"Studio Electronics custom built MIDIMINI featuring a genuine Trumansburg era R.A. Moog full back end with board 3 and board 4 harvested from Minimoog # 1190 circa 1972 along with a genuine Moog oscillator buffer board. It sports full military spec potentiometers and controls throughout and beautiful hand wiring with precision. Routine maintenance was performed mid 2022 with the power supply caps updated along with a full calibration. This will ensure longevity for it’s next owner.
With R.A. and MuSonics Minimoogs fetching 6 figures from the high end dealers in recent years, we hope the buyer ends up being one of the 1001-1200 owners for the sake of preservation.
As you can see the inside of the unit is extremely clean and flawless. The outer cosmetic condition clearly shows signs of being moved from rack to rack over the last 30 some odd years."

"Pictured above is our beloved friend and loyal customer Andy Rivas in his South Carolina studio. He’s been buying vintage synths from us for 22 years. Purchases include the following meticulously serviced pieces: EMS VCS3, Korg MS20, ARP 2600 and Sequencer, Studio Electronics Midimini, Roland Juno-106, TB-303, RE-201, Octave Cat, Ensoniq Fizmo and Yamaha DX7. Andy’s recent music has been featured on episodes 57 and 82 of Jamie Lidell’s "Hanging Out with Audiophiles". Tone Tweakers is the only vintage gear seller I trust.” We’re really proud of the great tracks Andy’s made with our gear.
