AJH Synth Glide + Noise // busboard pitch distribution, slew/lag and noise sources for Eurorack

Published on Dec 3, 2018 DivKidVideo

"**TIMING INDEX / SECTIONS BELOW** ok so this is a simple one, easy to overlook and underrated I feel. Like all AJH this just work really well. It's a basic linear glide that can glide up, down or both up and down (normal function for most slews), there's a great hold function to halt signals passing with either gate high or low (behaviour set on a jumper), it can send or receive CV from your bus boards in the case (yes the CV / gate lines on the power connectors that go unused 99% of the time), and there's 3 noise types. Simple, but highly effective and now with a recent update it's skiff friendly, responds to negative CVs and has a range of ~14 octaves ... yes 14! I'm known to go on about how much I dislike people going on about big over the top octave tracking ranges as musical lines don't span 8 octaves or more BUT in this case we're talking about going well into modulation ranges accurately and audio so I won't be ranting here! :)

TIMING INDEX / SECTIONS

00:12 Patch previews

00:38 Function / features run down

01:03 Demo patch - a wider patch using noise for percussion, glide for pitch and some other new AJH modules for added spice.

03:36 Glide - up, down, both, linear slew,

04:55 CV bus on the power boards and distributing pitch around your system cable free!

05:54 Hold - what is it, jumper settings etc - interrupting sequences for added performance and sequence freezing.

07:22 Audio wave shaping - YES using this for audio manipulation, weird ... probably ... cool though? Yes! Slew works as a basic low pass filter but audio rate hold manipulation adds some great overtones.

09:27 Slewing (or lagging or gliding) modulation signals. Turning square LFOs into triangles, ramps and clipped saws.

10:52 Noise types - a look and listen at the red, white and pink noise.

13:28 Using the Glide + Noise to mimic original Moog Minimoog Model D behaviour with the interrupted / gated glide on the keyboard."

Rare Vintage Moog System 55 & LHC Modular Controller

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

This one is in via a supporting member of the site. You can find the Moog System 55 listed here, and the left hand controller listed here.

Details on each follow:

"Vintage Moog 55 Modular Synthesizer - now being sold separately from the LHC at a ***hugely reduced price*** - seriously tempting for an original machine with known provenance. An all original vintage Moog 55 Modular Synthesizer. (Note: The incredibly rare factory-custom-made LHC “Left Hand Controller” 3 wheel box has been moved to a separate listing) . This is a complete Vintage Moog 55 Modular Synthesizer that was special ordered directly from Moog in 1979 and delivered to the original owner in 1980. The modules inside show they were assembled between 1974-1980. There have only been 3 owners of this 55... we are all good friends and have worked with many of the same recording artists in LA. This modular sounds amazing and huge! There are several advantages to the Vintage Modular Moog including holding its value, and appreciating over time. This 55 was serviced and restored a few years ago (around ‘09) by Keith Emerson’s Moog tech. Every detail was checked and tested including (fresh keyboard bushings/quiet) etc. It’s in very good shape inside and out. Sequencer is perfect. Has original back-panel perforated boards too. Front panels look great. Maybe 5 small scratches, mainly near screws. Cabinet overall very good: Minor wear. Top cabinet has corner chip around the back. I just tested every module this week and they are all good and sound great. It will leave here all working. Should be ready to play and record, but, since it has sat unused recently, you may wish to exercise the pots and use a jack burnisher here and there. This has a nice switchable power supply for use worldwide. System 55 Modules 5 x 902 Voltage-Controlled Amplifiers 1 x 903A Random Signal Generator 1 x 904A Voltage-Controlled Low-Pass Filter 1 x 904B Voltage-Controlled High-Pass Filter 5 x 911 Envelope Generators 1 x 911A Dual Trigger Delay 1 x 914 Fixed Filter Bank 1 x 921 Voltage-Controlled Oscillator 2 x 921A Oscillator Drivers 6 x 921B Oscillators 1 x 960 Sequential Controller 1 x 961 Interface 1 x 962 Sequential Switch 1 x 992 Control Voltage Panel 1 x 993 Trigger and Envelope Voltages Panel 1 x 994 Dual Multiples Panel 1 x 995 Attenuator 1 x CP2 Console Panel 3 x CP3A Console Panels 1 x CP8 Console Panel 1 x 350 Watt 120 VAC or 230 VAC Switch Selectable Power Supply"

"Ultra RARE Factory Custom Original Moog LHC. Left Hand Controller / 3 pitch-wheel box for Moog Modular. Likely only 2 made. The original owner custom ordered a Moog Modular 55 back in 1979. He asked the Moog company directly to custom-make this for him. They delivered it in 1980. It plugs into the back “accessory port” with a multi-pin connector. It can “normal” to most of the modular, and using switches and a patch or two, quickly set up the wheels for pitch-bends, vibrato, filter sweeps, volume swells, etc. It is a joy to use, works great, and really helps make the performance expressive. One other Moog Modular LHC was made for a famous Jazz artist, that is a friend of the original owner. It was told to me, by him, that there may have only been two of these made. This seems likely, since his was also one of the last modulars made during the original period (see other listing) and modular production stopped roughly a year later. There have only been 3 owners of the vintage Moog Modular 55 that this was custom made for (and that is listed separately today). We are all good friends and have worked with many of the same recording artists. I have never seen another... Nor has any other expert that has seen it! The original serial number and Moog “Custom LHC” tag is still attached to the bottom of the unit. Looks great, works great, highly collectible."

Live analog synthesizers - Sonic Robot on the synthesizers.com, Eurorack, Moog, soundtrack filmscore

Published on Jul 5, 2018 pwsynth

"This is a live song using both digital and analog synthesizers. The synthesizers.com is a Moog 55 style modular system using the Q960 sequencer for the bass line and Q119 for the three note chord pad. Rhythm comes from the Korg volca beats, the Korg SQ-1 sequencer to the MS-20, and 4MS Eurorack drum module. Higher pitched parts are the Ladik sequencer, to Make Noise STO, Optomix, Maths, and Echophon. Low pitched drones are from the Xiosynth and Polivoks style DIY Erica synths. A few of the modules I made, including the Moog style ladder filter, a tube distortion, and analog VU meters."

T 914 Fixed Filter Bank

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

Anyone know what the T stands for?  I can't read the maker labels at the bottom of the modules.  It looks like C. TOENSCHAUM or something.

"T914 Fixed Filter Bank module. It is a clone of the famous Moog (TM) 914 Fixed Filter Bank and is part of my Moog (TM) Modular System 55 clone. As the original it is based on real inductors, not on semiconductor replacements. All parts are analogue. The inductors are top quality hand-wound 5% tolerance inductors. The frontpanel size is width 8.5" (215,90 mm) and height 8.75" (222,25 mm). Material is 2 mm black anodized aluminium. The labeling is engraved text white laid-out made by Schaeffer Apparatebau (TM) in Germany. The knobs are original Cosmo (TM) knobs like the original uses. Power supply is +/- 15V DC. For Moog (TM) Modular compatibilty the voltage regulators can be bypassed."

“SILENCE IS *NOT* REQUESTED”: A THREE-DAY VISION QUEST at Tinity College Dublin

This one in via @carolinezoids

"'Silence is *NOT* Requested': 29-31 May w/ Synth Petting Zoo, @Analog_On & #Moog System 55: http://www.tcd.ie/ … #berkeley50 @matrixsynth"

The will be performances as well of course. Full details here.

"Time to move outside our comfort zone…
In a nod towards the artistic “happenings” and gatherings of the 1960s, the Library of Trinity College Dublin presents three nights of poets, music, sound effects, psychedelic projections and swirling quadraphonic sound in the Berkeley Library.

Curated by Richard Duckworth of the Department of Music, these events link the fifty years since the Moog synth was made commercially available with the opening of the Berkeley Library, and mark a radical departure from our usual events…

The nights have at their heart the classic Moog System 55 synthesiser – in Dublin as part of an upcoming Science Gallery exhibition – and we are very grateful to Paul Smith/Moog Sound Lab UK for its use. Each night will feature a 'Synth Petting Zoo' to get up close and personal with the rig."

Analog On Performance & Talk Tonight at Trinity College Dublin

This is on now. If you are in Dublin, you might want to drop by. Details follow via MATRIXSYNTH member, Caroline Swords

"Experimental electronic music ensemble 'Analog On', CD release tonight in TCD #Dublin: … #moog #synth @matrixsynth"

"A public performance followed by a short talk by Analog On, an experimental electronic music ensemble that composes and performs on vintage analogue electronics and modular synthesizers. The group consists of Shauna Caffrey on oscillator, saw and electronics, and Richard Duckworth from the School of Creative Arts at Trinity College Dublin on modular synthesizer and effects.

The Analog On made their debut at the Ideopreneurial Entrephonics II festival at the Freemasons’ Hall in April 2016, and has just finished recording this – their first release – on the iconic Moog System 55 in the cockpit of the Moog Sound Lab at the Tonmeister Studio in Surrey. The aesthetic is that of the time-warp cultist with retro and future aesthetics co-existing in the same cultural and temporal space.

This album is a musical homecoming for Richard Duckworth as he studied analog synthesis under Herb Deutsch at Hofstra University in the 1980s: this is where he was first introduced to the Moog modular system and he spent many hours in the electronic music studio experimenting with voltage-controlled systems. Shauna Louise Caffrey is a musicology major at Trinity College. Her life-long love of experimental soundtrack led her to join Analog On, and since then she has delighted in the creation of 'weird noise' and bizarre soundscapes through mixed media."
